Combat arena

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of an arena where you pay 500gc to enter. It would start with rabbits then work its way up. Rabbits, beaver, rats and stuff...

When you die, you wouldn't loose your stuff. You just return to the starting area.

This sort of idea has been mentioned before and shot down because it is too easy.

I'd suggest searching and looking at some of the other suggestions, and see if you can overcome some of the problems pointed out in those other threads.

There was also one about different doors with different monsters behind each door, but I can't find it. *shrug*

So it has...

I was thinking how to make this idea not too easy for making big money and exp but also a lot of fun, so i think there should be different fee for each lvls of monsters for example:

1) 2kgc:

5 waves of mobs: fem gobs, fem orcs, armed gobs, male orcs, ogres

2)5k gc

5 waves of mobs: fem armed orcs, male armed orcs, cyclopses, fluffies, feroses

3) 10k gc:

5 waves of mobs: desert chims, forest chims, mountain chims, cocktarices

4) 20k gc(dunno if not too low :( )

5 waves of mobs: yetis, arctic chims, giants, red dragons, black dragons

Fee's should be high enough so ppl wont make free money and exp on those, but also low enough so person who actually wanna test his/her skills against particular monsters, could afford it, w/o looking for empty spawns etc.

That would be also the purpouse of new "colloseum arena" that Anshar and Aislinn mentioned in Mortos Challenge topic.

I think if you want a arena to just test your abilities. you shouldn't get any drops and/or exp. the idea is really good I think it would be fun even for guilds to see whoes the best.

altho for the prices you mentioned MP I think it should be ok aswell to get exp and drops... its a fair amount of money considering the monsters.

i'd like to see this idea in the game.

and/or every month there is a prize (the cumulative entry fees of anyone who participates) for the guild/team which manages to kill the most waves of monsters.

If there is an upper limit and more than one team survive all the rounds then the prize gets split i guess :(

I agree with Hyp, I would do this without getting xp/gc. Its fun to improve and get to a next stage.

If it doesnt give xp, maybe make it no drop. So its only used for fun.

While were at it, why not make a ladder with the one who made it which ladder etc :icon13: .

Hi

No xp/drops sounds fine. I have had a related idea for a long time now where players can enter a dungeon and effectively embark on a solo-adventure from beginning to end. The creatures inside being MM ignoring and rising in difficulty as you progress through the dungeon.

However, my idea had lots of holes in it. For one thing, the rising levels of monsters only really works in the game as a whole, since the ability to combat the next creature takes alot of time leveling to achieve. Whereas a game that would be played over the course of an hour would expect the player's character (or player him/herself) to rise in combat ability much quicker.

This could be solved by (that is, if the programming behind it was worth implementing) each player entering having the creatures adjusted to be around the same level, with some stronger and many weaker...

(started in new topic so as not to clutter the original idea in this topic)

nice idea..but if there are no drops ppl will just go kill yetis somewhere else so they get drops, whats different in testing it in some arena without drops or in real with getting drops :icon13:

well the thing that deified mentioned is a nice idea too but can be abused easily.

4 best ppl will join same guild, get the gc and then share, sucks.

The big difference is that the player testing cannot drop items either, So, I guess kinda like trying the next level of monster on no drop day, but still different because of the sheer intensity.

Possibly entry could be by a token that spawns somewhere nearby and cannot be stored, so token spawns every 5 mins maybe, so only 1 person per 5 mins can enter? or maybe the token is sold by an NPC that will only sell 1 per 5 mins or something.

The biggest problem I see, and I don't know if there is any current ingame way to stop it, is that someone training on ogre ( for example) could get so far, and then camp there, spoiling it for everyone behind. You would have to do something like 5 spawn, then no more until the next person comes, and I dunno how that could work.

The idea is great, and problems with drops and/or exp are easy enough to see solutions, but ways to make people use it as intended are not so easy without making more work for mods.

Maybe a mod/bot thing in each room where once each room was clear, they could get the next mod/bot in the next room to TP the player through? I dunno, that sounds a bit hacky, but maybe could work without major coding issues

Well my idea for it would be similar to what others have suggested. Something like this:

- Have a place you went into, with no exit, you can only go forwards (series of doors etc). *

- The only way forward is to kill everything in the room 10/20 creatures (door triggered by quest code, or pawn).

- No drops, no XP.

- Only way out by dying.

- Only resources (pots, weapons, armour, ess etc) are what you carry in.

- Creatures "respwan" when next person arrives. I like the idea of limiting when people can go in somehow, so you can't get in while someone else is in the room. (Could be done by the quest code, or pawn.) *

The idea of such a place would be simply as a way of testing how strong you really are (how far can you get), and as competition between mates. It would be possible to also build a stats page from this, to help "prove" someone made it so far. You could also do timetrial type things, as in from the spawn to room clear being part of the stats.

* An alternative to a map progressively being moved through, could simply be a single room, which creatures spawn in like an invasion, with the invasion getting more each time. Potentially, several rooms like this so multiple people can try it at the same time. *shrug*
