What motives is this game based upon?

Recommended Posts

I already did a search in the forum but didn't come up with anything, so I thought I might post this here.

I think it would be nice to know some of the motives this game is based upon. So far I've noticed Babylon 5, Monty Python, and even Alice in Wonderland (a mushroom that makes you small and big). Are there others, and if so - what are they?

A mushroom that makes you small and big? I don't get it :P

What don't you get? The reference or the existence of such a mushroom in the game (it's there, it takes you to a secret place, the text reads you eat the mushroom and become small and then big again).

Those are just examples of what the gaming industry affectionately called "Easter Eggs".

Easter Eggs are real life references, or another outside reference used for amusement. Most games have Easter Eggs hidden throughout the game, you just have to find them.

As for the mushroom thing, I wasn't trying to make an easter egg, but Alice in Wonderland is what gave me the idea. You can also look at outside sources for ideas.

What's the B5 reference you've noticed?

We didn't really do the winery quest, did we?

No, "we" haven't done that one.

Oh, I've also seen a sword in a rock somewhere...

So what other references are there, or at least to what shows/movies/books do the other "Easter Eggs" refer to? I think it would be nice to know, so if we find such an "Easter Egg", we could understand the context (please remember the players here come from all over the world, and not everyone has the same cultural background).

They are for players to find on their own...and to enjoy on their own. We don't want to ruin it for others :P

aw i got all excited...i thought this was going to be an in depth discussion on what motivates players and hopefully open up some interesting gameplay discourse (to aid the developers in creating an even more enthralling game...)
