Entropy Report post Posted September 28, 2006 WTF, the GMT time changes arbitrary? I thought there was a 5 hours difference, now it's only 4? Well, then I guess it will start at 21 PM GMT... But given the nature of the contest, it might take quite a while

Mar(c) Report post Posted September 28, 2006 WTF, the GMT time changes arbitrary?I thought there was a 5 hours difference, now it's only 4? Well, then I guess it will start at 21 PM GMT... But given the nature of the contest, it might take quite a while The GMT is actually the one not changing. EST (Eastern Standard Time) is still, and will always be, GMT-5, you were correct there. However, you're on EDT nowadays, Eastern Daylight Time, which is GMT-4. While the UK is in the GMT time zone (per GMT definition), BST = British Summer Time = GTM+1. Looks like most of the countries that observe a summertime / daylight saving time (I checked US/Canada, Europe, and Australia) change on Sunday 29 October 2006. US/Canada and Europe change back to standard time (go back one hour), Australia changes to summertime (goes forward one hour). Entropy Report post Posted September 28, 2006 I thought UTC is the time that is not affected by daylight savings. Oh well, I always hated this kind fo things. But thatnks for the explanation, it makes sense.
Draym Report post Posted September 28, 2006 I'm not sure if I can make it in time... are we allowed to join the contest if it's still going even if we're not there from the beginning?
Mar(c) Report post Posted September 28, 2006 Actually GMT = UTC, more or less. GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) is the "old" standard, with the sun at noon reaching his highest point in Greenwich. This moment shifts a bit during the year due to the changing speed in the elliptic orbit, the longest day lasts about 30 minutes longer than the shortest. The UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is an atomic time standard, with precision within the second. So basically it's the same, technically GMT doesn't exist anymore but it's still in use as a synonym for UTC. Maddad Report post Posted September 29, 2006 I thought UTC is the time that is not affected by daylight savings. Oh well, I always hated this kind fo things. You and me both, brother. But you've got it right now. Eastern US is currently on Eastern DAYLIGHT Time, which is UTC-4. On the last Sunday in October at 0200 local it'll change to Eastern STANDARD Time, which is UTC-5. In other words, it'll jump from 0200 to 0100 instantaneously. And if you have an electronic device that's supposed to make that jump automatically, it might do it again when the time reaches 0200 once more. And again, and again, and again... (Let's not talk about how I know this.) Next year it gets even worse - the dates on which the U.S. enters and leaves Daylight Saving Time change. Guest stalag Report post Posted September 29, 2006 Well, then I guess it will start at 21 PM GMT... everything is fine about this pk contest except time....usa players cant play (still at work) and for europeans is too early also...23 GMT or even midnight would be better imo to try have more players in contest. I know this one will be at 21 GMT but for futures ones another time might work better.

Entropy Report post Posted September 29, 2006 Ok, here is the objective of the contest: There are 3 hyperspace bags in KF, one in each fort. As you might know, you need a special key to retrive those bags, and the key can be bought at Tanta, which lives on the second continent. I suggest you to buy quite afew of them, of course. If you find a bag, post here what it contains, and where it was. Good luck, everyone, and have fun!
