Market Prices are going down and down

Recommended Posts

When the supplies are too much, the price drops. That is obvious, as what is next; With lower prices, there will be less supply and the price will raise again. I believe this will continue for.. ever?

I dont think that the supplyer are going to leave the market... they have the items and they need the cash so wont happen...

That is why it is called Economics. But the above fix will not really happen. You asked "Why" in this thread, this is not a thread to suggest things :)

@Mauriciom I edited my post above while you were posting...

Well yeah, I doubt they would leave completely, but since the price is so low, it's useless to produce them for gc.. Which is what most of it is.

Let me explain. I do not mean NPC's I mean people who make things. Blacksmiths. We have Hundreds of people making Hundreds of armors and weapons each. And we have what...300-400 people who use them. But they only use one-three, Not 20-50 each.

Thus, Supply > Demand. which drives prices OUTRAGOUSLY low.

The best way to defeat it is to either reduce supply or increase demand.

Hasnt anyone taken Economics? Supply is exceeding demand. The problem is there is a demand for the making of the supply. It was bound to happen. There are small fixes, but remember you are in an economy just like in Real life. :o

216023[/snapback]

I've studied economics. :)

I think EL has a fairly primitive economy. I see nothing wrong with the way prices are currently working. Yes, there are small fixes, but that is really the only way you can take something this big. One piece at a time.

No matter what is done, there will always be a way to exploit the system and make lots of money. Most people just aren't smart enough to do it, and end up arguing that prices are too low; crying because they can't make any money. Those people make me smile.

Situation - manufaturers say they cannot make money in their trade. There are enough manufacturers that everyone is competing to make armor for maybe 5 player "end-users". Prices are falling, and just keep doing so.

Proposed solution: if manufacturers stop contributing to the market, the demand will increase.

Reasoning: Similar situation, several months ago - alchemists say they couldn't profit. A strike was organized, and after some time, a "union" of people formed, agreeing on set prices and not to undercut either each other or fellow alchemists. Prices went up for awhile.

Pros: Prices would be theoretically set; if the unioners are trustworthy, the option of paying a little more to guarantee not being scammed may seem a small price to pay.

Cons: Undercutters, also previous manufacturer strike was unsuccessful (failed to establish a real solution)

Then again, there are people who are only concerned about money at whatever cost - we can whine and moan, but if we let them convince us we can do nothing, they have already won.

Manufacturers lie. They can make profits, they just aren't happy with the amount of profits they make.

Won't happen.

I humored them. My interest is in finished products that do not sell as often. I have never paid "full price" for alchemy products in my life. Other people, who think like me, did the same, and the union broke apart.

Contact me if you ever form a union that isn't all about roleplay.

Actually, the two previous strikes failed. I'm not pointing any fingers, but I know some nasty undercutters who brought that market down!

Then again, there are people who are only concerned about money at whatever cost - we can whine and moan, but if we let them convince us we can do nothing, they have already won.

Have we, (they) won? :P

Ok, rephrase - instead of using "profit", use "profit that would make the effort worth the time". That, and some items only sell below cost - that's loss, not profit.

Won't happen.

Keep telling yourself that.

Actually, we haven't totally fallen apart - and our objective was met, if only for awhile. If only for a time, I call that "success".

Alchemist's Union actually didn't have much to do with playing a role - although, it seems funny that you want to tear apart role-play in a Role Playing Game.

See above.

As long as there is one person willing to fight, I'd say no. But then again, maybe you have - grow complacent in that, until you undercut yourselves out of the market.

we just need a way of getting rid of items without making people complain too much maybe a npc that is next to a storage and you click and get another inventory-like window that you can put as many items in as you want and it gives a percentage of getting some super special items or something :P

Or just do what sony does now, make gold available to buy for real cash. Make the lazy people like me happy, and it supports EL server costs.

This is good for the consumers (buyers), and bad for the sellers.

The cooldown system is ready to be activated on the server and client. I plan to make the food cooldown quite high to prevent overproduction, and increase the exp per item.

Of course, people will bitch and stuff.

There is absolutely plenty of GC to be made out there.  Who's making it now?  The 'undercutters', the slick traders, and some people with just dumb luck.

Please, you cannot change the market to suit your needs; try adapting to the niches the market is providing.

Phenic, from what I know your way of making gc in game is buying items from EL shop with $ and selling them in game for gc... not everyone can do this :P

I have to say I am happy with market prices going down because I am NOT a crafter or manuer :P

I hope some consideration has been applied to changing how much food some things take?

for example, even currently, HE will sell. I can go to chan 3 with 15,000 HE and have sold it in a couple minutes. HE is decent xp, but it's made for the cash or for use, not the XP... so decreasing the amount while retaining the same XP will actually be bad for some things

will things like FE and HE require less food?

to go into this more, food required for low-use items like medallions, weapons, armour, etc could go up, while consumables(HE, FE, rings to an extent, etc) need less food

Well thats a good idea... with that making a masive production well be unesesary bc u will get more exp... bc the problem was that u need to make 500 steel chains to get a manu lvl or 1k dis rings... so with that u HAVE to do some masive production...

I can't see many people bitching. Thats actually a change I think most people will agree with - something to better the market.

I really liked this new cooldown system and I hope it solves the problem of overproduction.

But since essences would be more difficult to make, the experience for the magic skill will be increased too? And the cooldown system will be implemented in magic as well?
