I personally have been playing EL for almost 4 yrs now, and i really have not had much of a problem with guys pming me inappropiate stuff.

 

However, in my early years of EL (this is coming from a 16yr old girl) such as when i was like 13, i found out things that i should not have found out about until i guess you can say the age i'm now. And those things would be about sex.

When you are a little kid, you really do not know what to do when you are pmed such things. Sure you know that there is #abuse and such, but if you go how many yrs back, were you ever afraid to tell an adult something? I would have never told my parents what was going on of fear of them no longer letting me play a game where i can get all my stress out. Or even to mods, even though they didn't know my age i wouldn't say a thing.

 

Those who are parents and allow their young kids to play EL, my advice is to make sure your relationship with your child is a good and strong one, so if something like that does happen to them, they won't be afraid to tell you. Reading their IMs and prying into their personal space really isn't a good way of doing that...let them come to you. I know if my parents were to ever do that, i'd be outraged with them and probably hate them.

 

Nowadays anyway, i'm a respected player and have not been offended verbally like i was in my younger years.

 

Shallara, i think it was a very good act to inform players that this is happening.

And you know whats wierd??? I've actually had people pm me stuff like that... and I'm a friggening short hairy dwarf guy wearing spandex red pants and a wierd looking black top... yeah I definatly need to change the way my char looks.

 

But then again, its actually a serious crime when you do that to somebody online. I forget what its called but you can get arrested and fined, you can get restraining oreders and banned from game ofcourse.

Well i agree with you there Shallara. Sadly Players cant do anything against that except telling those ppl

to stop or to abuse em. I made quite a few abuses cuz of Newbies swearing really badly at beam.

 

Its really sad but everything that has to do with internet (chatrooms, forums, games) you will have such

pervs in there too.

Is anyone else out there (mainly GMs please) that noticed that there are ppl registring at you Forums, posting a story with porn links in em on your guild forum? i saw that in W&W Forum and =HC= Forum now

and its kinda scary that those ppl search for new tries over and over again. Would like to know if that happened to others too (and no i dont mean your spam emails i mean specific the guild forums now)

I am speaking out on behalf of the younger ones. I have an 8 year old daughter and a 10 year old son that play. If some idiot were to PM my girl something along those lines, I would probably get banned for what I would say to them.

Well isnt it your responsiblity knowing that it happens to one inform ppl... which you have and two not allow your children to play.For Ent and the Mods can police the game all they want but they can only do so much and parents ( if they know it happens ) have to take responsiblity for there own childrens safety ( just like on the rest of the net)

The same could be said about playground, parkland areas, friends gardens...cant keep em locked up conovar, and in the UK in particular where we're encouraged to have a PC in every home by XX date, its almost impossible to lock them up online too, in tiny little worlds where they will come to only the virtual equivelant of a grazed knee's worth of harm. Almost all kids that play on the net will come across something or someone that we'd (as parents) rather they didnt. However we DO have the right to try to minimise the damage as much as possible, which seems to be the whole point here on this thread....

I monitor the forums for 2 guilds and they get such on both. Either it's posts in misc threads or just adding themselves as users with links to inappropriate websites. In most cases these are generated by bot-like programs. Forum moderators just need to stay on top of it and look into any new users created.

That is very true Pye. but knowing what can happen and that it does happen in games such as EL should the parents take there responsiblity as well ? . They wouldnt show a child XXX porn because they know the content so why should games be diff.Shall said herself she knows some of the disgusting comments that can/have been made towards females. So knowing that i hope she has stopped her daughter playing.

I love this game and am totally addicted. My children, 11, 14 and 15 will see me laugh and want to watch the screen for a bit. I don't encourage them to talk to strangers and I won't allow them to create their own character here... or be anywhere on the net that I cannot monitor. I have also been approached in the game in some strange ways.... I report it each time if I cannot get them to shut up (and each problem is dealt with effectively and promptly ** special thanks to the Mods... ). I also have a few ignored. I think the rules in place are excellent, the rest is up to us. I see your points, they are valid, but as Con said... the solution may be that the game is a tad mature for an eight year old girl (especially considering you NEVER know who the stranger is you are talking to).

And that's where we as a community (and as human beings) need to step in. We all go apecrap when someone summons near store. And like Quim said, if this were a problem with racial slurrs being thrown around, we'd all be jumping the person's ass for saying it.

 

This is no different. The Devs and Mods have done a great job creating and maintaining a game that is friendly to all who play. But they can't be everywhere all the time. That is where WE need to step in. Just because this is a game, it does not mean one can hang up their obligations to one's fellow man. If you saw someone being assaulted on the streets, you sure as hell would try to do something if you were any kind of decent person.

I think it's a good thing that you put this out here Shallara and i'm sorry for the inconvenience you and the rest of the women in EL suffers from this, i really hope this get's some ppl to think twice about what they are saying or are about to say to someone.

 

Show some respect and be as polite as possible to the ppl you are talking to, it's really not that hard.

Thank you for your post Shallara. It's unfortunate that some people didn't get the point, but it needs to be said. Though this behavior is indicative of greater problems beyond the scope of this forum, it is unacceptable in any civilized society, EL included. To #ignore it is really just accepting it, we need to do something about it. Making everyone aware of the problem is a good start.

I didn't read the whole thread, but we discourage parents from letting their young (under 12) from playing the game unsupervised.

The reason for this is that we are not specifically aiming at a familly game, and I personally believe that most of the 'familly games' are not fun (with some exceptions).

 

As a parent, it is your responsibility to keep your child safe, not ours.

We do not monitor private messages, so we are unable to prevent any abuse via PMs. Of course, out mods will take care of people that break our rules, and one of our rules is no sexual harasment. Of course, it depends what sexual harasment is. For example, if someone says: "hi there sexy", or "nice butt", this is not a really big deal, and you should ignore that person, or ask him/her to stop.

On the other hand, if someone says something like: "I stick my big cock in your mouth", then this is clearly abusive and it should be reported to the mods, which will take care of the problem.
