New engine test, part 2

Recommended Posts

The instructions are the same, file name is the same, please redownload it and retest, and let me know if it solved your problems, if it didn't solve your problems, if everything is fine, or if there are other issues

First, please only try it if you understand what I am going to say and can read and understand English.

Steps:

Download it from here: http://www.eternal-lands.com/map_viewer_release_1.zip

Unzip it in a NEW directory, do NOT put it in your EL directory. Make sure you have permissions to read/write from there.

Depending on your OS, run the program (if you are on linux, change the binary permisisons).

Please report any problems, along with the system specs and the FPS you get.

There are a few known problems that should NOT be reported:

1. Many objects have bad normals, and the light is weird.

2. When moving the camera, sometimes the ground tiles in the distance will apear different than those close by.

3. Some objects that should not be transparent are transparent.

4. Some objects, especially ground objects, have black/dark edges.

5. The water is black.

6. On windows, the program always crashes on exit.

Keys and usage:

RMB rotates the camera.

Scroll wheel moves the camera back and forth, keeping the alt key pressed increases the speed.

LMB moves the camera.

N toggles between night and day.

To change the maps, you can try F1 (previous map) and F2 (next map). However, right now it crashes when you try to change to a map before Isla Prima. Should work now.

You can also change the maps by editing the configuration file and edit the line: map = Isla_Prima

You can use any map file name, such as:

map = cave1.elm

Have fun testing, and please remember to report any problems that I did not mention, plus the frame rate and system specs, and the OS used.

The more I zoom in, the less I see. Only through the day though. Works nice at night. I was in full view of IP.

Windows XP SP3, GeForce 6800GT, around 38 FPS, but regular EL is running in the background. Around 50 FPS

when I turned EL off.

The updated version works (it was exiting before after loading the map). Performance is 13-15 fps, with a concurrent EL running (but minimized and in console mode). The near clipping plane seems wrong, but maybe I'm misinterpreting the effect. As I zoom in, many polygons just disappear.

Same as before. No Map. Restarts Xserver.

basic_string::_S_construct NULL not valid

I tried using wine and the EXe for windows and ./map.linux.bin. Not sure if it's important, I 64bit Ubuntu.

It seems to work fine. I get 20-30 fps on big maps and 30-40 fps on small maps.

One problem: everything turns black and disappears once it gets too close to the camera. Medium maps can only fill about half the screen before stuff starts disappearing. Small maps can fill about a quarter of the screen. If I zoom in, everything disappears starting with whatever is closest to the camera.

That fixed me up no problem. Seems to run fine startup and exit.

Vid: nVidia GeForce 8500 GT 512MB - driver ver: 173.14.12 (OpenGL 2.1.2)

OS: Ubuntu Intrepid (also Linux Mint (Ubuntu Intrepid based), SuSe SLED 10, Knoppix, and Puppy all seem to work just fine running right off the server.)

Proc: AMD Athlon 2GHz

RAM: 2GB

Getting current FPS of: between 42-44

As stated the lighting is weird. Not sure what you meant, but just in case - - in my instance the lighting was very dim during daytime, and nearly blackout at night aside from the lamp posts.

Otherwise works like a charm even when I changed resolutions in the config to 1280x1024. Map switching did indeed work without a hitch here so no worries.

Still have the same issues as with the first version. Only change is that I have an almost stable 60 fps regardless of zoom and angle.

I had the same problem like LabRat described in the other thread:

[map_viewer/main.cpp:236] EXTENDED EXCEPTION(2:item_not_found) at file 'engine/include/resourcemanager.hpp' in function 'get_resource' line 74: Can`t find resource 'extended-material/instanced_transparent_shadow_caster' in ShaderManager.

With the new version i don't have this problem.

I looked at a few maps (only F1 works, when pressing F2 it goes one map forward then it's a dead key), at most of them i had 70 to 100 FPS. When i came to some of the Bethel Maps it crashed: (Bethel Caves -> F1 -> Crash)

It runs fairly good on this low power laptop. FPS is low, but expected. Radu said in channel that my issue is a shader problem. Here are URL's to day and night screenshots on IP:

I tried it on my workstation loaded with Slackware 12.0, but the glibc version 2.5 wasn't up to date enough.

Ubuntu Linux 8.10.

Video card: GeForce 7600 GS/AGP/SSE2

Vendor ID: NVIDIA Corporation

OpenGL Version: 2.1.2 NVIDIA 177.82

Pentium 4 2.4 MHz.

After initial start up on IP I get about 40fps, slightly less in night mode. In daytime mode, if I zoom in I quickly loose all details to a black screen. In night time mode, zooming in to what looks like a normal playing zoom and perspective I get 50-60 fps. Other maps vary depending on the detail anything from less than 10 to several hundred fps.

Switching though the maps, the viewer exits with an error when I get to the map after Bethel Caves. Starting with "map = Bethel_Caves" in the config.cfg and pressing F1, the viewer exits immediately, not a crash but a controlled exit.

The error.log file reads:

EXTENDED EXCEPTION(2:item_not_found) at file 'engine/include/rstartree.hpp' in function 'remove' line 547: Element 12 is not in the tree.

The debug.log file reads:

[engine/source/filesystem.cpp:50] Loading file '2dobjects/ground/dirt3_edges2.2d0' in archive './data.zip'.

[engine/source/maploader.cpp:419] Loading 19 lights.

[map_viewer/main.cpp:236] EXTENDED EXCEPTION(2:item_not_found) at file 'engine/include/rstartree.hpp' in function 'remove' line 547: Element 12 is not in the tree.

Same as the other Vista reports in this thread, I got Runtime Error!

The error log has only "invalid bitset<N> position" (in the debug log it says "[map_viewer\main.cpp:236] invalid bitset<N> position")

Using Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)

processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60 2.00 GHz
