wormwood Report post Posted July 8, 2009 may i know what are the recommended ways to maintain your food level while manufacturing essences? currently im using Feasting pots but i find them too costly and fruit's cool down timing takes too long...
Raytray Report post Posted July 8, 2009 Red Toadstools and Bones is my way, along with fruits every minute or so.
RomanHD Report post Posted July 8, 2009 FP's are the #1 way unless you like wasting 3 pickpoints OR healing a lot(which isn't so bad since you are training magic). You can also mix in Tahraji, there's no cooldown even with fruits
frogimus Report post Posted July 9, 2009 FPs are inefficient. FP regains what? 50? Unless you're at -5 or lower, you waste some of it's food value since your food bar will only go to 45 with FPs. Bones (and I think toadies also) allow your food bar to go up to 55, so if you're at 43 you can hit that other bone and go to 53 instead of capping at 45 and losing food points. revi Report post Posted July 9, 2009 (edited) You have a number of choices (known stuff, I know ): fruits, veggies give 'few' food points, have a fairly long cooldown but are cheap (I use them for mixing FE at sulphur mine and to keep up food level while mining) cooked meat is more work, more expensive, but has a lot less cooldown and gives 25 points bones: give 10 points, weigh 1 emu, no cooldown, require a perk (3 PP) and cost around 2.2-2.5 gc (or require time gathering them) toadies: cheap, 10 points, 2 emu, no cooldown, risk of poison => cost of healing and/or antidote pots: 12 gc, 50 points, 5 emu, fairly short cooldown. I usually use pots, topping up with toads; this works very well for most alch items, you hit the cooldown in crafting, but I can live with that. unless you really mind the cooldown, pots are the easiest to use, (and no reason to take a FP if you have pos food...). With the current value of bones, they are not cheaper than FP, so the only advantage that remains for them is the absence of cooldown. (@frogimus: no one forces you to top up when you have 43 food points left... I'd mix first and eat later) Edited July 9, 2009 by revi
Learner Report post Posted July 9, 2009 I try to arrange it so I make things when I get a harvesting event, and then use fruit or vegies and harvest during the cool down. Make more efficient use of my time and makes for fewer trips to/from storage. The trick is in estamating how much stuff to haul to what harvest location(s) to maximize everything. I buy FP's 14-15gc each since I'm antisocial and I still make a good profit off HE's when I harvest my own silver. Go figure.
Monkeyb00y Report post Posted July 11, 2009 FP's are the #1 way unless you like wasting 3 pickpoints OR healing a lot(which isn't so bad since you are training magic). You can also mix in Tahraji, there's no cooldown even with fruits I was unaware of the no cooldown in Tahraji. Have to make a trip. I use a combination of BONES & FPs. If I'm making something like FEs or EEs, bones the whole time. But if I'm making something like HEs or MEs or anything else that takes lots of food per item, once my food level goes at least -5 or lower, I will use 1 FP to get back to 45 or a little lower, then 1 or 2 bones to boost as close to 55 as possible. It works pretty well. Problem is getting the bones gathered... hard to find on market usually. Or just go kill lots of skellies or deer, anything with bones. You could also go to IP & gather deadbags from animals laying around from the beavers & rabbits. Hope this helps.
Patriot Report post Posted September 26, 2009 Or you can all come and mix on PK server where there is no cooldown on ANYTHING!!!!! I love it. SO very awesome. I just eat veggies/fruit. Sit in NC and make 6-7 HE eat 3 veggies 6-7 HE. It is fun.
nathanstenzel Report post Posted September 26, 2009 This depends on where you are mixing and how afk you are. If you are afkish or mixing at storage, you will want faster food like fp. Fruit or cooked meat with bones or toadstools could be a substitute. Cooked meat is the second fastest food with cooldown. For FE in storage, you should rarely need anything faster than cooked meat. If you are mixing at a harvesting site and not afk, you should be able to mix FE on fruit. Harvest or mix during cooldown. If you are mixing at a harvesting site and not afk, you should be able to mix things harder than FE on cooked meat. Harvest or mix during cooldown. Fruit is too slow for many things that are harder than FE. Of course, you do need to harvest 3 different quartz for matter essence, so you could try fruit.....but it would be pushing your luck. If you have friend that need a harvestable that you need for your mixing, feel free to use fruit, harvest or mix while you have cooldown and make your friend a bag. You could ask them for something worth half the value of what they collect later on, if you wish to keep the score even. That is all I can tell you on this matter else than that you need to have health essence and/or antidotes ready when you use toadstools.
