completed armour bonus

With all the amount of new armour sets we are enjoying (and i think there are more to come), i think would be nice to encourage the use of the complete sets giving some special bonus for the use of all the set.

 

i made a search and didn't find this suggestion, but I'm sorry in advance if it's already suggested (and sorry too for my English)

 

any ideas for those bonuses?

I think it'd have to be a pretty strong bonus to overcome the people who think full set means without helm... and that big a bonus would need to be carefully considered

Nice idea. Atm its always better 2 use col/com instead of steel/tit helm so bonus should give +armor or +health/mana 2 recompensate the fact of not using col/com.

 

+accuracy might not be the best choice coz that 150hp from col is worth more than even+20 accuracy in most cases( standard 150-200hp is only 1 strong hit+1 mirror hit and u will have 2 restore :P

This is part of the approach to "fighting styles" that I have mentioned a few times, whenever the topic arises.

 

In that system, you "learn" a fighting style (cf. knowledge), which is activated by having the the right set of equipment (armour and weapons). Although the intention is not to give a flat bonus, but to compare styles to give either side some bonus or penalty.

ok, I made it such a while ago that there were only 3 complete sets in the game, fur; leather and iron set.

 

But the idea was and is still the same :D

Sounds good, and to ensure you can still get a bonus even when wearing a CoL/CoM, the knowledge/book(s) could work like this:

 

Book: Steel Armor Proficency

Prerequisites: Combat Tactics

Cost: 20,000gc

(Iron could be 10kgc and Ti 30kgc)

 

Wearing 2 pieces of Steel Armor gives +1 to defense (not armor), wearing 3 pieces gives +2 to defense, 4 pieces +3 def, etc.

 

So once you've read the book, you can wear:

Steel Plate or Chain Torso, Cuisess, Greaves, Shield and Helm and gain +4 to defense,

or

Steel Plate or Chain Torso, Cuisess, Greaves, Shield and CoL and gain +3 to defense.

 

I dont know about giving Accuracy bonuses though, wearing armor couldn't possibly increase accuracy... if you want to be realistic.

For the combat tactics approach:

  • Each combat tactic would have some requirements on the set of worn/equiped items inorder to be employed. These requirements can be as vague or as specific as required for the style; they may ignore head gear, or require a particular helmet; so some styles could be incompatible with crowns -- no reason to make any item a special case.
  • Combat tactics are tactics; they don't give a set bonus. The tactics is in choosing the right style against your opponent. The bonus is determined by "your tactics vs their tactics". Working this way, there is no "top tactic" that beats all others -- every tactic has its weak points, which another will exploit.
  • All creatures have their default tactic -- so if you are hunting, choose the right gear.
  • The current combat tactics books ("... Fighting") could be included in this system.

I see what you mean Trollson, and that would be awesome, to actually have "Fighting Styles"... you could take it further and say certain races could only do or be better at certain styles too... would require alot more coding than my inital suggestion... but i personally would love to see something like this implemented, the more flexibilty and options for fighting in EL the better.

 

You could also have it that some attributes/cross-attributes have effect on your ability to use a certain fighting style too, for example:

 

A "ninja" fighting style (yeah dodgy example) that works best if your an elf with leather armor and means you hit alot more but your hits dont do as much damage could get additional bonuses from dexterity or coordination.

 

 

A system like this also would reward players who actually put thought into how to setup their character for fighting, rather than just rewarding those who are prepared to spend hours a day mindlessly training against monsters.

I'm not saying that how you setup your attributes now wont have a dramatic effect on how you fight/train, but i personally think people who put thought into tactics deserve a bigger reward than those who just train a/d all day.

 

 

EDIT:

Initally i was thinking along the lines of different styles being things like "Knight", "Ninja", "Mage", "Defender", "Escort", etc... but they are probably more character classes than they are fighting styles...

Perhaps things like "Swordsman", "Barefist Specialist", "Silambam" (Ancient Indian martial art that used Staves (Staffs) ), etc...

 

But now i think they are somewhat limiting because they are focused on a particular weapon, and perhaps dont encompass an entire Fighting Style.

 

Just throwing stuff out there...

Yes, "fighting style" would be better, and the choice of styles is the tactics. The choice being made by the set of equipment used.

 

By making the choice this way, we don't add any new interfaces to the client, and keep things as natural as possible.
