Fox Lupine Report post Posted April 28, 2006 (edited) This is intended as a chiulds story/folk story to the people of Whitestone- or Lakeside village The Gargoyle Bessie tucked in the children, the cool night air infiltrating the wooden house through the open window. Old Bessie stood and shut the wooden shutters quickly. Night had fallen- wasn’t safe. “Grandma!†Little Susan called from her bed “Can you tell us a story?†“Story!†Jack agreed in that barely understandable voice of a four year old “Story!†Bessie smiled and sat besides the bed, on her wooden chair. She took another glance at the now closed window thoughtfully. “Did I ever tell you children about Husskymo?†she asked them. The children shook their heads, listening intently “Husskymo was a Gnome. He came to Whitestone a long time ago, when the people of our land were afraid to be here at all. When the only safe place here was the grand city†“Gargoyles roamed the land, killing at will. People were afraid to leave their houses, or even to risk the journey to the docks here. The land was in disarray†“Husskymo didn’t like this. The gnome arrived and went straight to Vermor castle, seeking out these creatures. Calmly and confidently, he strode past each and every Gargoyle he saw, into the heart of the castle†The children were listening with rapt attention “Finally he found the crypt of King Vermor, where the biggest, meanest Gargoyle lived. He towered over the Gnome, unable to understand why all of his friends had ignored the pitiful thing. Still smiling, Husskymo held out a bright green cape and said ‘This is a magic your kind cannot fight’†“The gargoyle could not believe this, so he allowed Husskymo the gnome to don his cape, and launched an assault. But try as he might, he could not come within an inch of the gnome†“Finally he relented, and Husskymo smile turned into a serious expression unlike anything he had displayed so far†“’If you will stop your days of evil- I will leave this here, for you to learn from, to understand†“The gargoyle thought for a long time, and finally agreed. As soon, however, as Husskymo handed over the cape he reached out with his claws and struck the gnome dead†“And that children-“she finished “is why we are safe from those creatures today. Because a man believed in a cause so completely he died for it. He was a true hero†The children had fallen asleep, smiles still on their faces. Bessie stood and left by the door, lying down in her own bed. The gargoyle had kept his word, and had stopped his days of evil on the people of Whitestone. But his nights reigned on. Maybe one day another hero would end thee nights of evil. Edited May 6, 2006 by Fox Lupine

Regar1 Report post Posted May 5, 2006 Great story! I saw only one teeny little problem...iirc, its King Vermor's crypt, in the bowels of vermor castle, not Lord Vermor's.
