idea to increase population on pk server

  1. 1. increase a/d cap extra pay than standard pk server pay?

    • yes so that all instances can be done!
    • no I Play and like it how it is!
    • would need more info!
    • if a/d cap increased a pay for non PK with limits to be decided later!

Please ideas are welcome this is just an idea for how to possibly increase the player base on pk server, and to bring back some of the old players. THese are just ideas. these ideas also allow a player to pay and decide if they want to upgrade later (imho).

 

I will try to explain why the poll here.

 

currently you pay 5 usd for pk server and are capped at 100a/d so nobody can really get ahead, you pay additional 50usd for special character.

 

I don't know if it is cost affective for programming for the below.

 

you pay an additional set USD to have no a/d cap.( this would allow all instances to be played if enough characters come over)

 

you could pay additional fee to be a non pk race, maybe a new race that can't be pk'd but is capped a/d to either the standard 100, or lower allowing those who wish to just be suppliers.

 

This will allow for the following.

 

1. all instances can be played currently the advanced is the highest instance.

 

2. people who don't want pk but want the benefits of pk server could have them by paying a small fee more.

 

3. the pk cap depending on how cost effective the programming is could be an incrimental increast like sets of 20 ie 120,140,160 paid in an amount set by the owner Radu.

 

4. I am not a programmer so I don't know how easy this is to do. I just want to get both the pk player idead and those that may be wanting to join pk if this is added.

Its a good idea to maybe have a peaceful race (not able to be pk'ed) for maybe $10 and for the same fee they can convert their char back to PK. Great income for the Radu too.

I've been playing the PK server from before the beginning (I played during the pre-release testing). Honestly, I think it's fine the way it is, but obviously a lot of other people don't since the population has been pretty much flat for the almost three years of it's existence.

 

There have been many thread on this topic. The last one with a major poll came up with some results most everyone supported, but pretty much nothing came of it.

 

The "no cap" idea has come up before, many times. The "non PK char" is more unique.

 

I think the fundamental problems are still present: (1) most people aren't willing to start over from zero and do the work needed to level a char, and (2) many people are too attached to their fancy toys that are much harder to get on the PK server.

 

Still I don't think these two ideas will hurt the server, so I voted for both a p2pnoCap (pay to play no cap) and a p2pnonPK (pay to play non PKable).

A major overhaul of the server is the only way the playerbase will increase.

 

I could write a huge essay on configuring an EL based server to be an extremely fun 'Combat Server' (with emphasis on both PvE and PvP)... but most likely it would be a waste of my time, so Radu would need to ask me for it stating he'll seriously consider it before i'd write it.

Instances can be done if there are enough players (5) to start it. Which is hard to get right now.

 

I doubt the a/d cap is a problem when attracting new players, I believe the a/d cap allows new players to quickly get to the required levels for pk.

Perhaps more safe maps (key harvesting maps) would get more players attention...

I pop in every once in a while, and used to play a lot.. but now I am afk sooo much, I would just get attacked everywhere.

 

This idea would work.. but seriously defeat the purpose of the whole server... I do like it as it is... I just can't play it at this current time.:P

Hmm ... so you can have a non pk character on the pk server. Kind of like the main server?

 

BTW why not have 3 or so alts who don't pk - and trade all the items to the main that does....

Actually there a quite a few people who play on this server and do not take part in pk. They play for the other benefits such as no mini-events, no cooldown etc. Most fighters also have alts that trade back to them. What were talking about here is a choice that those just want to be harvers etc can pay extra to have that as a privelge.

Actually the prominent problem is that many/most people aren't willing to put in the work to level a character on the PK server to make him competitive (which, btw, takes less time than it does on main). But that's ok. After almost three years of existence, those lazy folks can just buy someone else's already leveled char and complain about how PK is dead, the fancy toys are too hard to get, and how they should have just stayed on main. :rolleyes:

No it isn't.

 

Actually, you're absolutely right, that is a prominent problem.

No one's willing to get to 100 a/d, and get every attribute to 48, and have every positive perk.

 

Then there's the mess of other problems, but I won't be tricked into writing the essay. :P

The pk server has its safe area's for mixers (ok resource gatherers are still under threat but that's part of the fun)

I still think the cap is a good idea. The idea in the beginning was everyone would end up as strong as each other and if you took a break from the game you could come back and still be competitive and not have to train 12 hours a day to keep on top.

 

If you want to improve pking and maybe get competitive players join then they need an incentive. The problem has always been why fight when my stuff that took so long to get will just break. Or if I do attack someone I will be called an alt attacker and don't want the backlash from it.

 

An Idea

 

For every player kill you get points. These point can be traded at an npc for items/resources. Ok just 1 kill won't get you a binding stone or some tit armor but you can see where I am going with this idea.

 

On the Main server people always complained that pk was not profitable. Well why not make it on the pk server.

 

An Idea

 

Tournanment npc

would need so many players to enter. Once a week or month. Win your fights go through to the next round and win pk points to spend on the npc

No need to be artificially obtuse, no one does that on main either. I was on the server when it started. I saw all the bragging by people about how they were going to own the server in a couple weeks. I saw how many of them vanished never to be seen again.

 

It's not that people aren't willing to max out a char, it's that they aren't even willing to take the time to create a PK build (there are many to choose from) and get a decent a/d to use it.

 

I'm a harvester/supplier. I don't PK. It's taken me almost three years, but even I am into the 90's a/d. And I've trained less that 10 hours total in the last 20 a/d levels. I've seen motivated people do the same leveling in a few months.

 

It's simply not that hard to be PK competitive on the server if people want to.

the issue is not how to get people to return that quit it is to get new people who are willing to play, the issue is this we pay to play, unlike the free people. But yet we don't have some of the benefits of the free people.

What Branedon says here does have some weight.

When the PK server started we didn’t have instances. So they have not been planned into the build of the PK server.

I believe the CAP should stay for the same reasons that I have already stated in my last post,

But raising the CAP to 120 a/d would make us be able to use all the Instances. It would also get my lazy A$$ back here to do some more levelling :)

It might get some of the other capped players back too

Handy isnt that what we have with instances? , the rewards are good and you cant enter until your a certain a/d level. We are at the point on this server now where we are getting teams and doing them

Higher caps means those who are capped will probably train a few levels once they get back, meaning the number of people that can enter the 80-100 instance decreases. Right now we can barely get a team together and with less players able to join we will be back to where we were a few months ago.

 

100 a/d seems high enough to specialize a build, higher a/d cap will ensure everyone gets enough overall levels to get a more 'all-round' combat build. I actually think the game is fairly well balanced now combat wise. Leaving the cap in place ensures tank,mage,whatever builds remain a valid option... As opposed to an all-round build that would be effective against ANY non-capped specialized build.

The only problems with the instances were what to do with the spoils and the arguments they caused. They are fun for group events but that where it ends. They take a lot of resources and many armours and weapons were broken The instances were designed for the main server where all the top equipment is readably available. After doing 2-3 instances on here you wouldn't have any gear left to do anymore. I built my char to tank in the instances but even with a ntm cloak i still lost many items.

To get people to play this server be it for 2 hours a week or everyday you need give them some incentives

Mixers need customers, Pker's/ trainers need mixers and so on. Give players an incentive to play the game and you might up the numbers.
