Peach Report post Posted April 10, 2007 I was thinking about something today, why our characters are only right handed? in real life i am left handed and i'd like my character to be the same like if he wears sword in left hand, he gets normal bonus of sword and if he wears it on other hand, he gets penalties like -acc , -def and so on... Gohan Report post Posted April 10, 2007 Because back when people fought with swords.. They were always taught to fight with the weapon in the right and the shield in the left hand. Even if they were left-handed. And here probably because its a waste of time programming left-/right-handed. -Blee
Tico Report post Posted April 10, 2007 EL is a good place to left-handed ppl feel how's to be a right-handed person PS: without weapon you fight with booth hands, and also with feet sometimes
redsoxlovr10 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 I remember reading the same sudgestion before from 2006 i think, the issue with it is that the devs would have to completly re-program the way your char works or something, I don't know the technical terms but it just wouldnt work. Duck2 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 Blee made the important point, swordsmen were very rarely left handed. The reason is your shield needs to be held in left hand to cover the vitals, if you hold the sword in your left, then your shield (held in the right) will not give your vitals good coverage. So left handed swordsman learned to use their right hand for the sword, not really a big deal, I know several left-handed people who use their right hand to write with. The other point is the reason why extremly few games have this feature, it isn't worth the coding effort, all right handed players isn't a big deal, so no point in changing it. --Duck2
trollson Report post Posted April 11, 2007 Sinister or Dexter? Shield in the left hand has nothing to do with the vitals (heart) being on the left; if your heart was on the right it would make very little difference to mortality. There are far more easily accessible and fatal areas to hit. Medieval castles had spiral stairs running clockwise upwards. This gave advantage to a right-handed defender higher up the stairs. However, about one in seven stairs in (afair Scottish) castles rose anticlockwise; this ratio being associated with the proportion of the population which is left handed. Left handed swordsmen have an advantage when fighting righthanded counterparts -- since they are use to fighting right handed opponents, whereas to fight a left handed opponent is a relative rarity. When fighting in an organised mass (eg, Roman legion style, or Saxon shield wall), you need to fit into your place, which does require a certain handedness -- which favours all right handed, but does not preclude specialist roles for left handed.
