we used the same installer, the same maps, she didnt overwrite any .elms.. pretty confusing..

i sent her my own guildmap_la.elm and everything works now

I don't understand this. How can it be that it downloads fine, the game even starts (I can see my counters going down a little) then the error message comes?

Well I couldn't fix the problem on the windows ME... couldn't get it to install windows xp so I said the heck with it and tossed out the old computer and just bought a new one and now EL works fine and wow awesome update characters are more realistic but thanks to EVERYONE who tried to help I appreciate the time and effort you guys put into trying to help.

Try updating your drivers to the Omega drivers, and try to disabe the sound as well.

Did you edit the configuration file in your Eternal Lands folder or the My Documents/Eternal Lands/Main ?

 

Reason I asked, is because when I was messing around with the config file, I didn't think it would be in the My Documents. And with mine, there was one in the My Documents, and one in the EL folder. So I kept editing the config in the Eternal Lands folder but nothing would function.

 

The one you need to edit is in the My Documents/Eternal Lands/Main

 

Turn off sound, and make sure the directory is set to where your Eternal Lands location is.

 

Also note, I could have done something wrong, but I couldn't get anything to read when the folder was name "Eternal Lands222" (because I didn't wanna overwrite my info), so I just renamed my old folder and let the new one be "Eternal Lands".

 

If you downloaded and installed sounds, make sure you have a FOLDER in your Eternal Lands Folder called "sound". It has to have the new sounds in that folder too. DO NOT INSTALL IT IN MUSIC!!!

 

That could be your problem. Least it was mine.

 

Good luck! New Error reports are handy too, they DO change when you make changes.

Ozmondius, I was having trouble too and decided to try the Omega Drivers. I have a Mobility Radeon 9000. At first, I updated to the latest Omega driver and that didn't work, got worse than before. Next, I read http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati.php that the lastest drivers won't support mine nor your graphic card so I went with v3.8252. Happy to report that so far so good, game is working fine for me now. Just wondering if you updated the right version.

 

I was excited to try this, but for me, it lead to a blank screen on windows reboot. Had to retstart in safe mode and go back to the former video driver. I will do a bit more research on the best Omega driver for the 9200. Thanks for the info, Caecus!

I dont think you have a video card. Looks like to me, that you have the Intel 82815 chipset, probably has the extreme graphics on board, which are not extreme at all. I was running on the intel 865GBF chipset the first year I played EL (right after the big crash (3 years ago)) and was having some display problems then.

 

I bought a GeForce 5200 and installed it, everything works fine for me, except for a couple things.

I have the same as this, I have a ATI RADEON 9600 video card with the driver just updated.

 

I don't have problems with the game, after I did'nt download the sound.

dont know if this helps and i'm not trying to step on any toes at all but alot of problems i have had are with memory conflicts

 

i know have to start el with nothing else running i can start other programs/windows after that.

 

and doing things this way i can run el fine no lag at all with sound aswell

 

known conflicts to me on my system are winamp, windows media player, ie explorer, and ram optimizer.

 

but i cna start any of these after i have logged on and have no issues at all then.

You might have to update your sound card drivers, or disable the sound, if you have issues with other programs that use the sound card.

I finally found an Omega driver that doesn't foul up the laptop display, but had to go clear back to v. 2.6.42 which came out in 2003. In EL the video is very jerky and as before when inside, panning around would cause problems. The problems were slightly different in that it didn't cause a hard stop/system freeze, but, instead, after a few seconds the screen would refresh and neither the computer nor EL was frozen. This also happened while entering or exiting an inside map. After 2-3 of these temporary halts, the EL screen was corrupted--graphics misplaced, black bars around the outside of the gui, but it continued to operate. I don't know where to go from here. Each of the 9 other drivers I loaded recognized my video card as Mobility Radeon 9000, not 9200. v. 2.6.42 at least recognized that it was actually a 9200.

Mine is a laptop :/ HOWEVER! I saw your patch msg, downloaded it, reinstalled the laptop manuf recommended driver, and started the el_nocluster version. So far, I have not been able to crash it as I could reliably do before. I went to all of the places I crashed in the past and tried all the same things, but so far, it's working \o/ I will mention that when panning inside and sometimes outside, the video gets very jerky still, but before, it crashed--I'll take jerky any day.

 

Thank you! If I have further problems, I'll report to help refine a solution.

 

EDIT: I just noticed poor man was not selected and made the adjustment. It seemed to have helped a little with the jerkiness while panning. It's still pretty jerky, but improved.

tried turning sounds off, putting on poorman, reinstalling, putting settings back to default but i cant get anything to work

i can only log in for a few secs but everything is frozen. then i get an error report and the client shuts itself down. hope someone can help
