angelo Report post Posted November 15, 2007 hi all, since i'm working from some days on a powerful machine, i've downloaded the el client 1.4 for windows. Core 2 Quad 4 G ram GE Force 8800 gtx M$ Vista My trouble is very similar to the uresolved http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=37664 thread. I've try to analize the problem in details: I can connect to the server (SYN->SYN+ACK received), but after the client send the first 20 bytes version string, i get the ACK, but no other reponses following from the server. Same behaviour is trying to send bytes with telnet on port 2000, i get the connection, but after some bytes are sent, i don't receive anything back (should receive the game welcome). Version bytes sent in the packet are padded to 23, in order: 0a 0f 00 0a 00 12 00 01 04 00 00 3e 5d e1 2f 07 d0 09 01 00 0e 01 00 I'm behind a router, but there are no restrictions on any port, and as you can see, the socket connection is established. If necessary, i've the packet sniffer log saved. If any help, thanks, angelo (game user: angel, ELIT)
The_Piper Report post Posted November 15, 2007 Are you using any anti-virus tools, like Norton? Piper
angelo Report post Posted November 15, 2007 no, from 10 years i don't use any antivirus. I prefer a fast pc, and the risk of virus. I do an online scan sometime.
NeXt Report post Posted November 15, 2007 maby did you block el on the windows defender ??
angelo Report post Posted November 15, 2007 (edited) no, i don't think since all services as defender/firewall etc are disabled, and all the apps works, except EL. I've done some test reenabling them, authorizing EL application on the firewall, nothing change. There is a log, that could be of interest: Log started at 2007-11-15 15:48:39 localtime (ora solare Europa occidentale) [15:48:40] Error: Can't open file "quest.log" [15:48:40] * server www.eternal-lands.com filename http://www.eternal-lands.com/updates140/files.lst [15:48:40] Downloading http://www.eternal-lands.com/updates140/files.lst from www.eternal-lands.com [15:48:40] Error: Can't open file "commands.lst" [15:48:40] * server www.eternal-lands.com filename http://www.eternal-lands.com/updates/custom_files.lst [15:48:40] Downloading http://www.eternal-lands.com/updates/custom_files.lst from www.eternal-lands.com [15:48:46] Client closed Since the connection is established, but server don't respond to the version packet, Is there any situation where the server don't respond ? Puntif Report post Posted November 15, 2007 And what happens when you try the same tests on port 2001 (the test server)?
angelo Report post Posted November 15, 2007 ok, seems you've have found the point: on test server port (2001) everithing work. also, in troubleshooting guide there was: I can't connect to the server See if you can view the "players online" page on the main web site: http://game.eternal-lands.com/online_players.htm If you can view that page, but can't connect to the server in the game, then you have a problem with your firewall settings. Ways to configure firewalls vary greatly, but you need to allow connections through port 2000. If you cannot view that page, then there is a problem with your ISP preventing you from connecting. Try again later, or complain to your ISP. and is true, on port 2000 i am in the online page. My little office cisco router shouldn't have any restriction, so probably restriction rules are applied on the main router of this industrial center ISP that give the network connection to us. My question is, for what misterious reason theISP router block traffic thath go to/come from port 2000 and not on 2001 ? Is it a some kind of well-known port they could block for security issues ? Angelo We've also had lots of cases where Windows PC's for various reasons blocked it. It wouldn't hurt to double check your system. FYI, port 2000 is used by one well known back door program and some AV's get triggered by EL, and some ISP's do block it.
Entropy Report post Posted November 16, 2007 Ok, some Cisco routers, even if configured to allow everything, will do more than they are supposed to do (route the god damn packets) and instead analyze and valdiate the traffic. So they think that port 2000 means some protocol, and since the El client/server do not match that protocol, it kills the connection. If it isn't your router, it is your ISP router, so try to talk to them.
