Defend EL's honor

Recommended Posts

I played WOW for about 2 weeks then quit. I got to lvl 20 something but just got bored really easily. I guess i just never got addicted to the game. To me going around and doing quest was just incredibly boring. And thats all you can basically do until ur lvl 50+ and go into the battlegrounds to pk. IMO el has a better community and more of a variety of things to do so you never rly get bored. Maybe it was b/c i was already playing el at the time but all that i found that WOW had going for it was its graphics. Since there is a lvl cap of 60 which you can easily get within 4 months there not much to do after that then just get better armor or make a new char and lvl all over again.

Apperently, lvl 60 is when the GAME actually starts.

I have not gotten to 60 myself, but gotten near. It did start to get more fun.

I disagree about EL haveing more things to do.

No putting EL down, but EL Doesn't have all that much to do.

Has nice skills, but they are extremely repetative.

If EL staff had $30,000,000 - then yes, EL would be much...much...much...better than WoW.

Im not on WoW's side either, I'm not subscribed to it, I've just played it.

.......................

From what i've noticed, EL is more of a project, for volunteers who want to brush up on their programming, modling skills, rather than wanting vast players to play.

Over WoW being nothing but pure money hungry assholes.

Well I've never played WoW, I did play Guild Wars tho.

The maximum level there is 20. But there's a lot to do. Even tho it all is related to fighting.

There are 8 different professions and the next edition (Guild Wars: NightFall, coming Oct 27) brings yet another 2 professions.

So there are many styles of gameplay and a lot of strategy is needed to actually get somewhere, unless your level is too high for the area you're in.

Personally I can make builds to kick lvl 22-24 and lvl 28 bosses butt on my warrior, but the build alone is nothing, the performing of the fight is even more important.

Strategy and timing are really hard at times, for sure when you get some noob rushers who lure too many monsters. As for the timing, try interrupting a spell with 2 seconds casting time as a ranger who has to take an arrow and shoot from a screen away. :)

Also, I think GW is better then WoW, I think WoW is actually just too easy as you can use all your skills, on GW you can only take 8 along maximum. And I think EL has my personal favor over GW again. Even tho GW has many things that are better developed, ELs strongest point, its community, keeps me here. Not that there are only mean and evil people in GW, but EL just keeps me tied to the screen longer then GW does usually.

On a final note: WoW are money whores, I really dislike their 2-monthly fee or w/e time it is to keep playing, its really not worth that if you ask me.

Agreed, except you must remember WoW and GW are totally diffrent games. The two cannot be compared well.

WoW is your classic RPG, grind grind, quest quest. GW is a game where strategy and teamwork is everything,

Heh, strategy and teamwork is needed a lot but we do have a fair share of quests and challenges.

Some challenges:

-Monster challenges: every monster kill gives a +X seconds in time, kill as many monsters as possible before your time runs out.

-PvP Hall of Heroes: ultimate PvP place, the battle for the HoH, only the best get there, or newbs too with a BIG load of luck.

-Special areas: The Fissure of Woe and The Underworld are both spots for the best. Don't go there if you're not prepared.

-Storyline: a challenge by itself is to finish the storyline, I'm still not at the end of Factions tho and NightFall will be here soon (eek).

I hate the lack of lore.

THey just improvised some random crap that had to deal with guilds going to war.

On the priviate alpha forums, they had users submit their lore stories...lol

WoW's strategy to kill a large monster...DAMAGE DaMAGE DAMAGE...and a healer or two.

GW's strategy to kill a large monster requires everyone knowing each others skills and when to do what. Teamwork and planning is everything.

Unfortunatly GW gets boring fast

There are plenty of builds for farming spiders in FoW,there's even a build for farming bladed aataxes(lvl 28 mobs with a crapload of damage dealing capabilities in the underworld)-i tried it :P

Also, one of the most known builds is the Invincible monk....he can solo FoW and Underworld with a bit of skill :P

Plus,Sorrow's Furnace is a very,VERY hard area...no way you're gonna suceed there without a pr0 group

Sorry mate, Invinci-monk build got nerfed, they need an echo SS/SV necro to help them because they can't produce the damage anymore.

You can't simply "nerf" a build....the community overcame loads of those problems when they nerfed hundreds of warrior builds....like when they nerfed the ub3r wand collector in front of Nolani,or when they made it impossible to farm Rotscale solo....well it is possible with a 3-man team,or when they made an attempt to nerf farming builds in Factions(don't remember which boss, but it was lvl 30)-i checked GWguru after a week...they found a 3-man farm solution that works even better than the 1 man build.

I'm saying that it is impossible to simply make a build lose its strenghts. In Nightfall there are many skills for monks that will make up for the damage output....

My favourite build is going to Grenth's footprint and soloing it only with an outside healer(NPC),or just using Grenth's Balance :P

I never played WoW, but it better be better than EL, they invested like 30M USD in it (the initial investment), while we invested only our time.

LOL

If you pay someone to paint fancy racing stripes on a Ford Pinto, it's still a Ford Pinto.

But if you invest 30M in a car vs. nothing, what car would be better?

Your comparison sucks.

If you were to invest 30M in a car, that would make you an idiot.

Your understanding of the comparison is lacking.

Edit: I couldn't stop laughing at the idea of investing 30mil in a Ford Pinto. It reminded me of the time someone told me he put a turbo on his Ford Escort. I asked him,"Isn't that like strapping a bottle rocket to a turtle's a*s?"

I plaid WoW few weeks too, and i have to say i like EL more, and EL is better than WoW in FEW things.

We all know the most important is people, great people who plays Eternal Lands, but next is... maps, maybe you think this is weird becouse WoW is huge but think about it, in all client uptades we have few news maps and mostly they are big :devlish: Etenal Lands is seriously larg and start be larger and larger and...larger! The important is too than we have influence for changes in EL and from us depends how this game will look in few months/years too. Then just stay in EL becouse this is really great game...and i know you can't leave it anyway :)

30M Turkish Liras/Yens/insert bad currency here isn't alot.Infact it's almost nothing for a car.

THEREFORE I WAS RIGHT and you need to be impaled on a burning stake, which would make me a winner.

Are you saying EL is bigger than WoW...or ANY game, for that matter. (In land/maps)

I suggest you play games longer than a trial.

Both cars would be Ford Pinto, of cours the 30M one will win a race, but u may have fun on both. U will enjoy the road view better then u would enjoy in the 30M one.

Also chicks dont know nothing about cars, for them it would be exactly the same. And thats a good point to analyse. U may have chicks with both cars, and the chick will like more to enjoy the view

Analogies:

Car (Ford Pinto) = Game

Chicks = Fun

View = Community

Race = Game contents

So with this weir comparision u can have more Fun in EL that u woud have with WoW, but playing WoW u should aford for more graphics skills and stuff.

Then could you clarify your analogy?

What game is the Ford Pinto? El or WoW?

they both r. EL is the pinto and WoW is the pinto with racing stripes

investing 30 million in a game will not necessarily make it better...it may make it worse.

If that amount of money has been put in then the money people will want a return on that investment. This means the game must appeal to the maximum number of people so you get something that appeals to the lowest common denominator.

Game development decisions will be taken with the bias of 'Will this attract new players' rather than 'Is this going to improve the game'. And before anyone starts arguing that these are the same thing, take a look at the hollywood film industry for the same effect. Getting bums on seats is of prime importance, the odd gem will slip through, but in general the films are pap.

agreed WoW would be less likely to do things like radu does they wont want to make their customers mad and therefor lose money so they would be more hesitant to do things to make the game better, like say take away our vials from drinking pots. i cant add in a comparison from WoW since i dont play it.

P.S. this is not a post saying "OMFG you shouldnt have taken away our vials" since i am not a Potter this didnt effect me much.

Then could you clarify your analogy?

What game is the Ford Pinto? El or WoW?

congratz to:

Happy for his complete understanding & simple explanation of the analogy.

Johnnyfrog for his wordy approach at explaining it.

Tico for his interesting take on the analogy. BTW, most fun women wouldn't even talk to a guy that drove a pinto, no matter what the condition. Having own several different types of vehicles including a Pinto; I would say I got more chicks with my Camaro. I owned the Camaro & Pinto at the same time & if I showed to pick a girl up in the Pinto, you should have seen the look on thier face. This was a cherry condition Pinto & not the rust bucket, oil leaking fire hazard that most people picture when you say Ford Pinto.

You 3 have won a skunk hat. Contact me ingame to collect. lol

as side note:

I was trying to explain the first analogy with a second one. If you use Mad Raven's take on it, you would be strapping the turbo to the turtles butt. I know that was a lame attempt but it was still funny. So Mad Raven, you have impaled me with your stake in logic & my brain is on fire from your flaming. (or something like that lol)

Yarr, that be correct. Also,if you spend 30M on a car,you aren't an idiot.Poor people who plan to spend 30M on a car are idiots.People who actually have 30M to spend on a car are eccentric
