oneinch Report post Posted February 23, 2004 greetings everyone. on opengl i belive i might have found a bug. The current date/time: 2/23/04 3:06 CST. I last updated from cvs about an hour and half ago. But onto the problem. When compiled and linked against NVidia version of ogl EL fails to load some textures in game. Well it seemd to fail in loading the ground textures. I have tried this with the 4496 and the 5336 nvidia drivers and the problem remains the same. Other apps that have been compiled and linked agains the same ogl version have not experienced this problem. I have provided a SS it is the first pic on the site: http://www.geocities.com/txmoneinch now onto openal... I am about at my wits end with this. I have tried just about everything and cannot get sound to work. I am using alsa drivers version 1.0.2c and libs/utils version 1.0.2. I belive i have compiled openal in just about every way imaginable. and tried it with alsa, esd, artsd, and SDL (with the back ends compiled into openal of course) and still nothing. and i have tried every combination of them in the .openalrc file and still no sound :x can anyone be of soem help on this one?? Learner Report post Posted February 23, 2004 That openGL bug is a known one when people compile on newer systems and have clouds enabled. If you can find why it is doing that, please let us know!!
Cicero Report post Posted February 23, 2004 Well for me, I had the problem when I compiled against the new nvidia drivers, but not when I compiled against the old ones. That was the only factor that changed.
oneinch Report post Posted February 23, 2004 welp i dont know much about coding my guess would be its something to do with rendering the clouds shadows on thr ground but i honestly really dont know whats causing it.
Entropy Report post Posted February 24, 2004 That is a known problem, and it occures only on Linux, so I believe it's a GCC bug, I guess. It happens to some people, and it is not my fault, because it compiles just fine on Windows, and on many Linux distros.
Cicero Report post Posted February 24, 2004 I don't think it's gcc, just bad GL headers.
Guest Report post Posted February 25, 2004 i remember when xfree 4.3.0 came out it had a bug simular to this in the gl headers. except it didnt load textures at all no matter what you did. You had to go dl the latest mesa3d and use the headers from that or use the headers from your vid cards opengl drivers (eg nvidia) and that would fix the problem. And while you could very well be right Cicero, i have noticed that you use the SDL openGL wrappers and i was thinking that it could possible be a bug in those wrappers. I could very well be wrong, its just a thought that came to me while eating this hamburger
Entropy Report post Posted February 25, 2004 The SDL wrapper has nothing to do with this problem.
Cicero Report post Posted February 25, 2004 I'm not entirely convinced that SDL_opengl.h has nothing to do with this. I've been doing lots of experiments and I'm just waiting for something to click. Hopefully one of us will figure it out soon.
oneinch Report post Posted February 25, 2004 welp the SDL opengl wrapper was just an idea. And like Cicero, i would really like to see this bug fixed too. Possible something in the stencil buffer or shadow engine?
