12 Reasons Why Gay Marriges Should Be Banned

Recommended Posts

1. Homosexuality is not natural........ much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control are not natural

2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children....Infertile couples and old people cannot get legally married because the world needs more children.

3. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children....... because straight parents only raise straight children.

4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful...... since Britney Spears's 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.

5. marriage has been around for a long time, and it hasn't and shouldn't be changed at all...... women are property, Blacks can't marry Whites, and divorce is illegal.

6. Gay marriage should be decided by the people, not the courts..... because the MAJORITY-elected legislature, not courts, have historically protected the rights of MINORITIES.

7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion....... In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are always imposed on the entire country. That's why we only have one religion in America.

8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay..... in the same way that hanging around tall people makes you tall.

9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior..... People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage license.

10. Children can never succeed without both male and female role models at home........That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.

11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms.... because we haven't adapted to cars or longer lifespans.

12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional..... Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages will for gays & lesbians.

If you still think gay marriges should be banned, read again.

I have nothing against gay people. Hey, if you're gay, what can I say about that? It's not my life, I choose to be straight.

Just don't hit on me.... :P

There are already legal restrictions on marriage. Why the outrage over a restriction on gay marriage, and not over laws against polygamy, cousins, age restrictions, etc?

Bisexual women are just fine ;-) But then again, most women are...

Anyway, if a couple - homosexual or heterosexual - really wish to vow their loyalty towards eachother in front of whatever God or whatever they may believe in, it's fine by me. I really fail to see the problem.

It'd better not be the Christian God, or they'll burn in Hell. Maybe you're alright with homos walking up behind you and bumping you on purpose, but a lot of people aren't. If homos didn't hit on them or even talk to them, I'm sure straight folks would accept them a lot better (don't even bother arguing -- this is the main reason why so many of them dislike them: the fear of being hit on by a gay and publicly embarrassed)

Heh, actually I have been hit on by a gay once... I just told him that I was not interested, as I was a heterosexual and he went away - it's really nothing to be embarrassed about imo.

There you go, that's you. :P Then you have people who are extreme homophobes that are just flat out scared of them. I also don't see anything wrong with that. :P

Actually i still think gay marriages should be banned.

That post is nothing but a list of generalizations and logial fallacies... if that convinces you, you need your head examined... :P

The issue is very simple. All people are equal, yet marriage (legal not religious) gives two people special recognition, special rights in respect to each other (and as a couple often, governament take measures to protect 'families' too).

Why ? Which is the one group that people agree deserves to have special protection and rights ? Adults that have sex with each other ?!??! :P

No. Children... because they can't defend themselves, and as corny as it may sound they are the future of the society. They do have more rights then the rest of us and anyone with any sense of social responsability would agree to that.

Protecting families is ultimately potecting children... because heterosexual couples are the ones that give birth to them, and raise them. Any psychologist would say to you that children do normally need both their natural parents as they grow up, that they are affected by divorce or death of one parent. Just because some end up ok in the end, it dosen't mean it dosen't matter...

Ofc the state dosen't have the right to force two married people have children, this is why some families without children can still get married, which dosen't change the reason why the State officialised them as a family in the first place.

Ultimately giving gay people right to marry just because they have sex with each other is an injustice against single people... i mean what exactly does having sex in the *** contribute to society, that they should recieve special treatment ?

Why shouldn't friends be able to marry, because you know, they care about each other and like to go to parties together ?

How about more then one person ? Familys like father and daughter ? I mean they probably love each other more then gays do ?

The question ultimately is: is marriage a kindof official license for sex ? Or a diploma you can hang on the wall and say we have sex (or we love each other or whatevr) and we want the world to know ? Then by all means make gay marriage legal...

I personally don't think so. I do think marriage needs to be updated to our modern times, but that means focusing even more on the rights of children, and on providing them with the best possible home, maybe allowing non-sexual couples or groups that have orfan children in their care to have a kindof "married" status.

What it dosen't need is the really head-on political attack on family/children which is the gay's "right" to marry...

sorry for the flaming  i'm done now :P

You have a point in the case of polygamy, and personally, I don't have an issue with polygamy as long as all partners agree. For the other two cases you mention there are good reasons for these restrictions. The chances of producing children with defects are greater when the two partners are close family of each other. Age restrictions apply because both partners have to be able to independently decide for themselves if they want to marry, and in most countries I know, the law says you're able to make up your mind when you're 18. What I don't understand is all the people that get outraged at the idea of gay marriage. Does your own marriage become less valuable when two gays can marry each other? If that's the case, I pity you...

I totally agree with Grum, there's nothing wrong with gay marriages, or being gay at all, as long as they don't keep saying how cute your ass is if you don't want that - but the same goes for heterosexual people, if a guy tells a girl her ass is cute and the girl doesn't like hearing that, the guy should cut it out - and the other way around of course ;)

I've had a really interesting conversation with Izzy about this subject, and he actually came up with a fact-based piece which stated that being gay is an illness - though some of his conclusions were false (imo) we didn't come to a clear answer, I think Izzy's still convinced being gay is an illness, but I don't.

Heh, don't know why I pointed that out, it jsut makes my pov seem odd...

Guess what I'm trying to say is: you should be able to think and say what you want, be who you want to be, as long as you don't harm others. Since there's nothing harmful about gay marriages, they should be allowed.

(For those Dutchies among us, *Theo van Gogh* should be a nice subject to discuss too...)

Guest Dajmin

I liked that post, goat ;)

So here's my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

Gay, straight, bi or whatever, you do what makes you happy. A lot of religions will stronly object, but so what? They already object to sex outwith the confines of marriage as it is, and I know for a fact that guys will not get married just because they want some.

What's the difference between my girlfriend and I (who have lived together for 3 years) and a gay couple who might live a couple of doors down the street? We're all in love, we're all human, we all want to share that commitment with our friends and family. The only difference is that one of the four of us was born with a different chromosome.

Remember, sexuality is not a choice. I didn't choose to be straight any more than anyone chooses to be gay. It's the way we were born. Seems to me that denying that basic rule violates human rights on so many levels it's not funny.

The procreation issue is another laughable concept. You're trying to tell me that when a straight guy goes out looking for some action it's because he wants kids? Yeah right. So why should a gay man be any different?

Now we come down to personal beliefs. Even if you're not gay yourself, even if you don't understand what makes people have same-sex desires, even if it repulses you beyond control, it is not your place to tell other people what should and shouldn't be allowed. Accept that EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT and move on. Don't spread shit about people, start rumours that they randomly rub against you because it gets them off, or anything like that, because that merely shows your own ignorance. I have a gay friend who I met via my girlfriend, and I know he (at least used to) have a thing for me, but he knew I was straight and that was it. He never tried anything on me. Just like any of the girls I know had a thing for me never did. I wish they had though, that'd be cool.

To conclude, I'm of the opinion that everyone is entitled to be themselves. I don't hide who I am, so why should anyone else? Gay or straight, black or white, human or f*cking alien, take people as you find them, not as you think they MIGHT be. Remember not so long ago white folks thought that allowing non-white folks to share oxygen with them was a bad thing. Thankfully times and mindsets change, people become more tolerant and less judgemental and the world goes on turning.

You have a point in the case of polygamy, and personally, I don't have an issue with polygamy as long as all partners agree.

And yet there's nobody marching on washington to defend it.

Anyway, the point I was going to make is that the states already decide their own decency laws. I'm against a national amendment because it's not the national goverment's business, but if the states want to restrict it, that's their perogative. It's a lot easier to go to another state to get married than to go to another country.

EDIT: on a slightly ironic note, Utah voted to ban gay marriage there

I just don't get it...what does it matter that Homosexuals marry?

Does it bother anyone?

i mean what exactly does having sex in the *** contribute to society, that they should recieve special treatment ?

What does having sex with a condom contribute to the society? So you think you can only marry if you get children, and because lesbians/homo's can't get children they can't get married. That 's real bullshit. If 2 homosexual people love eachother why can't they marry? I realy don't see much difference between an straight marrige and a gay marrige, they both love eachother. Why should the law descide who can mary someone and who can't?

I fail to see why it's more offensive to be "hit on" by an unwanted gay person than an unwanted straight person...either way you say "No thank you" and move on...and I've had a lot less trouble with the lesbian community taking no for an answer than most straight guys I've encountered...

And what is this about most women being bi??? Why do guys think that?????

I'm glad I'm Canadian. We're not paralysed with fear of terrorists and homosexuals.

Finish this sentence: "Two homosexual people get married to one another and the here's how it hurt someone else: "

And don't try giving me crap about "the kids". Hetero couples have been fucking up their kids forever and there's no proof homosexuals could do any worse.

Quite a lot of people.

But why does it bother Quite a lot of people?

Because it's not natural?...Clothes, computers, condoms, and all the other things you can thing of are not natural.

Well, lets make them all legal...it DOES make sense.

Well, erm, what GGM said I agree with (because I am a socialist Canadian bastard  ), but arguments against contrary reasons...they are sarcastic against the sarcasm, I hope, else they were intended to be stupid....I hope.

How do the people in Canada think? Are they very socialistic? All for free healthcare for the poor and stuff?

Well, much better reactions than the other guy's topic on the other forum...

I'd belt them and disown them FAST! If it's my kids or a complete stranger...it's wrong!

Glad there's none of those people here.

what other people do is none of our business, unless it affects another person.

gay marriage = not your problem - they have not affected you in any way.

someone touching you without your consent or making comments you don't like = a problem: this is something females get a lot every day from guys when we walk down the street - it's normal to us really, though we don't like it all the same.

...but we're bigger than that and so should you guys be too - it's just the same when a gay does it to you as when a straight does it to us - get over it.
