Poison formula

Recommended Posts

The amount of damage done at a time depends on how much time is left on the poison duration. It appears to be something like this:

if less than 60 seconds left you take 1 point every 10 seconds. if less than 90 seconds left you take 2 points every 10 seconds. If less than 120 seconds left you take 3 points every 10 seconds. If less than 150 seconds left you take 4 points every 10 seconds and so on. I'm not sure the exact timing but it's something like this. As far as I know if you are poisoned while a previous poison is running, the new poison duration is added to the remaining duration on the old one so you can see big numbers. I think there may be a maximum poison duration but I haven't tested that.

Poison works like this:

Say you are poisoned for 10 dmg. You will lose 10 hp every 10 seconds until you have lost it twice. After that you will take 9 damage every 10 seconds twice and so on. However, if you get poisoned more on top of that (say 6 more from a toadstool) you will then lose the next lot of hp at the same time you would have lost it before you got more poisoned (but for 15 hp in this case (9 + 6)) and it will go down from there.

As you can see the total amount of time you will be poisoned for rises linearly but the total damage rises exponentially. If you're looking for a precise formula though I don't have one however it should be fairly easy to work out for someone with decent maths skills from the information I have provided.

EDIT: I just realised this is in the "Magic" subforum of skills so this probably isn't what you are looking for.

The answer in regards to the poison spell is: It's not public information and probably only Entropy knows. :)

The above still applies to how the poison wears off, it's the power of the poison depending on rationality and magic level that we don't know.

Damage is dealt every 10 seconds. After three damage rolls the damage is reduced by 1, until it's 0. The first spell damage amount doesn't necessarily last all three rolls, but varies on your mag power. When you gain more power to spell, the damage isn't immediately increased, but you first get the damage to last the full 3 damage rolls and only after that a new damage amount.

Example, damage received every 10 seconds:

12, 11, 11, 11, 10, 10, 10, 9, 9, 9...

You get more levels, maybe some extra rat and then it's:

12, 12, 11, 11, 11...

And after heavy perking, few levels more and a lower resistance target:

13, 12, 12, 12, 11, 11, 11...

Same principle works with all poison, from food or not.

No idea of the formula. Highest mag + rationality peeps can do poisons ~15+ damage, maybe even more.

Puntif, I read your formula on your page just today.

It seems the game's formula has changed. It seems to now simply start with 7 damage and then go down.

When I reviewed what you posted on your comcast hosted page, it looked like for every 30 seconds remaining, it was 1 point of damage and that it lasted for 7 full minutes. At least according to your damage table.

Anyone have any idea on if magic level and rationality affect the poison spell?

Anyone do more recent research on this? Me an Malixz just did a simple test yesterday. If I hurt him any more than me, it was only by 10. I received what I think was 75 damage.

I believe, there's a poison strength counter for each mob that corresponds to the amount of poison ingested. A toadstool poisoning, for example, would add 18 (?) to the counter. Every 10 seconds, (counter/3) "poison damage" is applied and the counter is lowered by 1 until it's zero.

Different sources of poison change the counter in a different way - toadstool always ADDS a fixed number, probably 18. Getting hit by poisoned caltrops also adds a similar number. The "poison" spell SETS the counter to an amount which depends on the magic level and rationality of the caster and the magic protection of the target.

So, for example, if you see the HP dropping by 5, the poison strength might have been 15, 16, or 17- you would have to wait up to 30 seconds to know exactly.

I used to do major damage to nasps taking them to less than half with a few poison spells before I reduced my rationality. It definitely affects poison damage.
