life in the city

it's just my feeling, but the towns look bloody dead. there is a big town and no people in it. i don't mean flooding towns with npcs but maybe a couple on the street, just to show that this is not a ghosttown. in time they could even help you with finding various information for the quests(location, people who "might know", and other info, just an ordinary rpg environment). they could be static, so there shouldn't be any huge performance loss on the side of server. at least i don't see a reason for it. it's just an idea. you don't have to burn me alive right away:-)

that's what i thought. but there is at most 70 players online at a time, and already, there is not enough resources in the way of animals, and offensive creatures. if there is going to be 1k players online(if:-( ) then it's going to be crowded like hell and no resources at all, unless you'll will virutally flood the maps by animals and other moving things. your answer was what i feared the most. sorry. my oppinion. if you make bigger maps, then that 1k players will move around and the cities are going to be empty again. but that was just a cosmetic thought. even the quest help can be achieved by other players. we'll see.

As the player number will increase, new/more animals, monsters and resources will be added.

You seem to miss the point about cities. Players will still come to cities, no matter how many maps are there, because they need to buy/sell stuff.

what i meant was more maps, more cities. but you're right. this isn't really a problem. just add resources. truth is, i'm affraid of 1k players. the continent isn't that huge. it's going to be crowded i think. like "excuse me, just step a little to the left so i can swing my sword to kill that fox, thank you, bye":-D

lol, yeah i've been thinking about that too. Not that it's overly crowded right now, but 1k players then / 70 players now = 14 times more players.

Hey, that's not as bad as i thought. We would need another silver mining spot, though :)

There will be some other maps, such as new caves and dungeons, so the game surface will be bigger than the maped area surface.

Besides, we can add some new islands, etc.

yeah..we will have city guards, and bandits/brigands/theives of course

Hey I was thinking..maybe we can have a theif, and when you fight him he tries to steal your stuff, and he'll randomly get something from your inventory..when you kill him you'd find all your stuff+ in his bag.......

mmmmmmm*gets an idea sent from somewhere unknown*

*ding*

seeing as we have gargoyles that spawn at night.... we could have the thieves spawn at midnight in the city's :P

then they get to wander around and pilfer people items

i used to play diablo 2 a bit and there was a time when there was a monster who stole ur items when you came up against him, hed steal your potions ..you could make burglers steal gold and potions from you inventory also tools like the pick and leather gloves ..noting that would worry you too much just enough to anoy you if you didnt kill the lill thief befor he made off with it

there wasnt any thieves in D2, i should know (i once knew practically EVERYONE on bnet).but i like the idea, but maybe they should have a limit on how muck gold they steal, since someone could be going to get a titanium serpent sword and have the money in gold to switch at the inn and a theif would come along and take a lot of gold then someone could come a kill the thief and take your booty

there was a monster on diablo2 that stole things from you,he was in act 3..one of the monsters that appears when you open the seals before fighting diablo.and it would be good idea because it would be a risk to all players, right now high level players and have cyclops's to be careful around but if we have a monsters that takes something from their inventory then disappears and spawns somewhere else with the item they took it would make things a bit more....interesting

How about, when there is too many friggen' people punting rabbits (250-300 peeps online?) and it's almost impossible to level up as a newb, you just add another starting island. Half the people will start on isla prima, another half will start on isla seconda. (Also, divide the existing players amungst the isles) It would make it a lot easier to hunt, and it would cut down on the amount of people standing around on the bunny island when they could be meeting in whitestone or portland. There would still only be one boat to the Isles, but it would go to just your own. Alternatively, players would have to pay money to go to their non-indigiounous island.

That's a nice overflow meathod if you ask me.

to make citys more alive . . .

step one: when you sign up for a charecter you choose a race . .

and the race you choose will randomly put you in a different city after newbie island . . that city will be your home city

step two: take the underworld and have several portals leading to different towns and city's ( with a broken down wooden sign over the portal ) so you know if your at your towns portal or not.

step three: make the cities a safe spot ( meaning no animals or creatures ) yet there should be town people you could kill but then town will get mad at you. . .

step four: make a new button at the bottom of the screen and the button will be there for you to press when you need to go home but your lost.

there will be certain people in the towns who wil save your character to that town and when you click that button you will respawn in that town from anywhere ( except hell ) but the trick is the button wont make you right away be back to the town you will have to be sitting and after pressing wait about 30 to 40 secounds before returing home.

that concludes my ghost town solution ( bow to entropy he is god :) )
