crusadingknight Report post Posted April 15, 2005 While you're welcome to make new contributions, they probably won't be merged in until after the implementation of the new, more mark-up and object-oriented XML format. This is to prevent the volume from (optimistically ) expanding to a point where it adds even more time to the changeover. As well, once the format is changed, several volunteers would be appreciated to bring all parts of the Encyclopedia up-to-date with the correct mark-up. I'd appreciate it if you can tell me if you'd be willing to help out ASAP, so I can get a rough estimation of how long the changeover will take. (Lachesis estimates it at ~40 hours for the entire team, so the more people, the quicker.) Thanks in Advance
Lachesis Report post Posted April 15, 2005 My estimation meant one XML-experienced author working on one copy of the Encyclopedia. It is based on my experience of getting 2K lines of XML code in 8 hours. I expect the new format to be approximately 6-8K lines large. You can use a lot of Copy&Pasting, so it shouldn't be as bad as it sounds at first. For testing, we'll need the English locale of the file to be completed quickly, so it would be great if everyone could work together on a that file first. Separating the work should be easy, just pick an XML subtree. Probably CVS would be able to puzzle the parts together I'm sorry that conversion cannot be done automatically. Be assured I tried really hard to make it possible, but finally it would have taken even more effort than rewriting the code manually. With regards Lachesis

Lachesis Report post Posted April 16, 2005 (edited) IMPORTANT: I finally found the file I had created for testing purposes some time ago. I lifted it to the current format, and added it to CVS. It contains the complete chapters alchemy and books and almost complete sections attributes, perks, nexuses, skills and clothes . It's the 2K lines I was talking about, so say hurray for several working hours being saved With regards Lachesis Edit: Corrected the info about what is already done, and added a link to CVS. Edit: Just noticed updating the format reduced the number of lines to 1.6K. Edit: IMPORTANT: semantic markup moved to 'src' subdirectory. crusadingknight Report post Posted April 18, 2005 Lazy so far today, but I figure time may be a little on my side... anyway, I got capes and cloaks done, and added an example creature and perk. --BTW, can we possibly add an "opposing perk" element (just a string) to the perk element? I think it wouldn't look good in the description element.
Lyanna Report post Posted April 20, 2005 (edited) It's not a big deal, but you might want to change the introductory message on the front page, since Plat.yna isn't working on it anymore. Oh, and change the description of the Chim. Wolf. -Lyn- Edited April 20, 2005 by Lyanna
Lachesis Report post Posted April 20, 2005 Just noticed there is a 'Jewlery.xml' in CVS. May I delete it? Jewelry.xml seems to be newer. With regards Lachesis

Oh, and change the description of the Chim. Wolf. -Lyn- 154627[/snapback] Uh, it was changed when jamesvm took over, then later when I took it over... what about it? ... The maintainer name is used so they can be contacted ASAP by anyone in need of help. As well... I don't think there's much need to worry about the misc. files in cvs, because I know they'll be obsolete before I get around to updating them all, so I guess deleting it would be a good idea. crusadingknight Report post Posted April 23, 2005 Ok, I finished the Monsters/Animals Section. (336 lines). ... Now I have to get the storywriters to check over and add to a few of my descriptions. Iszi Report post Posted June 6, 2005 I'd like to help, if you guys still need it. I don't know too much about XML, but I do have a little bit of HTML/JavaScript experience, so it shouldn't be too hard for me to pick up if someone wants to give me a run-through on it. (I've read the posts in this forum section, and am still a little lost.) Contact info is in my forum profile.
Ariel_Engle Report post Posted June 22, 2005 Oh you guys should update the book list with the new prices and people that sell them and there new locations. If I knew XML I would do it myself but I don't. But I will be willing to get the information and write it down for you guys. I think it be cool if there was some cows in the game and if you kill them you get meat and leather it would help people that make leather items. When you get these things readly place them in the download section so I can update the game.
