algunar Report post Posted July 20, 2007 i dont know what the developers have planned on making a storyline, but if they do ever get implemented, cut scenes could be used. every now and then a new section of a story could crop up as a cutscene. the whole game would freeze for a short space of time while a previously recorded video cut scene is playing. it can then be watched again in the forums. alternatively it could just go straight to the forums. Aphistolas Report post Posted July 20, 2007 Do you have any actual sugguestions that could encompass all the main events of EL? A storyline is needed before people make technical sugguestions.
ttlanhil Report post Posted July 20, 2007 We have a lot of storyline. It's not designed and integrated very well (there are some brilliant stories, but it's not tied together or, as a whole, at all beleivable), but it's there. As for cutscenes, what purpose would they have? Is there anything they can do that fanflicks can't do?
Cyprom Report post Posted July 20, 2007 I'm sure all PKers would love it if they were in the middle of a fight and a cutscene popped up You can't do this without some sort of missions/quests where parties go to a seperate area. EL was not designed that way
freeone3000 Report post Posted July 21, 2007 (edited) Well, the cutscenes are impractical, and also assume everyone is working through the story at the same rate. We already have the outline of linear quests (ever try to do Leather before Tankel? Can't do it.), so there's no reason we can't have a unified, consistent storyline and world. trollson Report post Posted July 21, 2007 Freezing the game while this is played would not be possible. However, if the "cut scene" is played within its own window, it could be treated in the same way as an online book -- consider it in response to "using" a crystal ball, or "use keyhole" during a quest. The form of the playback could be EL scenes, or an actual movie (with subtitles) if an appropriate player library was added to the client. In either case though, this additional data should be pulled from a secondary server, not the game server. I can see this as being another tool in the EL scenario building toolbox (but lets get instance maps first!).
