Unable to play for past 2 days [SOLVED]

Recommended Posts

I have 2 computers. One is a laptop the other is a desktop. Both worked fine up until 2 days ago. Now where the client says:

Connecting to Server...

it just sits there. It never goes onto the green server message.

if i let the client sit there for a minute or so it will say:

Going AFK

This occurs on both computers.

Any Ideas?

Dun, run ent's telnet command using a -f C:\debug.log at the end

it will dump the info into the log file.

you should get the welcome message when you run this telnet command.

Ok, well, if this is the case what it means is that your ISP (or router, firewall, etc.) is blocking port 2000 TCP. Call your ISP support line for help on this issue, since it is out of our hands.

Both computers have had Trend Micro AV for over a year. Disabled on both and same problem, neither has firewall as I have NAT enabled in router, which has not changed in over 2 years. Can I force EL to use another port besides 2000?

Well after much diagnostics, Ent is right (of course). Though my job, I have access to 3-4 ISP's, all work except my ISP. I tried from other locations using my ISP and same thing happens. I tied other ISP's and I can log on.

I called my ISP and they of course say it is not them. How can I convince them that it is? They say they can run the ping command that ENT provided above...

Get thier support on the phone, and don't let them hang up until it works. Let them go thru all your settings, your firewall, your router's software, whatever they want to do, even let them remote desktop (like go to my PC.com or whatever) until they are convinced that something is wrong on thier end. I've gone thru ISP issues before too, it will help that you have done all of these tests already. Just keep hammering home that you KNOW it's them, and you want them to prove it's not since you have exhausted all of your options.

I once had 3 verizon managers, 2 local switch office tech's and 4 callcenter support people tied up for 2 weeks convincing them that even though thier map says my home (17,500 ft from the local switch office) is too far away for the higher speed DSL service to work, i knew that it would (i won't go into why i knew). It got to the end of the second week and finally i got the local switch office tech to switch my port to the higher speed service, then i ran a speedtest application and it worked perfectly and he could see that it was working. Before this they were refusing to give me the higher speed service, but i really wanted it and refused to give up until they proved it wouldnt work.

Persistance.

In any case, this issues is solved as far as EL is concerned.

Work this out with your ISP.

Case closed. Happy gaming :)
