Roja Report post Posted January 14, 2005 I'd like to make a beehive, and the bees should just be little black particles. But, if you think of how bees move around a hive, they just kinda randomly fly around in a certain radius. So we need some particles that don't "float up and away", but stay in one spot, randomly moving. can this be done?
Umrion Report post Posted January 15, 2005 You might want to try using one of the existing types first; for example type 2. Set color change to zero for all components (the bees shouldn't change color ) Set start velocity to zero (otherwise they'd stray too far away - remember that "acceleration" isn't really acceleration for this system.) Set acceleration to whatever looks good - min should be equal to negative max for each component, though, otherwise the bees won't stay close to the hive.. Of course, they won't be restricted to a certain radius, but (for type 2) they die when they get too far above the hive, and the acceleration will keep them quite close. Try that; if it looks bad, we'll write a new type of particles
Quell Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Could we get a math function of spiral as one of the types? Pleeeeaaase ? (or maybe vectors of radius speed and acceleration ?)
Ravenod Report post Posted January 15, 2005 (edited) Here is something I made that's pretty close. You can of course play with it until it looks the way you want. 2 4 302,1 50 -1 0 0.200000 1 1.000000,-2.000000,-3.000000 3.700000,3.700000,3.100000 0.150000 0.000000,0.000000,-0.050000 0.000000,0.000000,0.050000 0.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000 0.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000 -0.100000,-0.100000,-0.200000 0.100000,0.100000,0.200000 0.002500,0.002500,0.002500,0.000000 0.020000,0.020000,0.020000,0.000000 Edit : Here is another one I played around with this morning. 2 0 0,301 350 -1 0 0.300000 1 -3.000001,-2.000002,-3.100000 2.100002,2.200001,3.100000 0.040000 -0.040000,0.000000,-0.060000 0.040000,0.000000,0.070000 0.020000,0.000000,0.040000,0.000000 0.100000,0.000000,0.100000,0.500000 -0.080000,-0.190000,-0.180000 0.080000,0.190000,0.170000 0.002500,0.002500,0.002500,0.000000 0.020000,0.020000,0.020000,0.000000 Edited January 15, 2005 by Ravenod
duran Report post Posted January 15, 2005 hmm, this reminds me. i was visiting a friend and he is realy into ragnarok online. while watching him play i noticed that every hit and most action had some sort of graphical effect accompanying it to indicate its use to not just the user but to all. like say someone is working on a item, sparks fly. someone eats something as one see crumbs fly off (sloppy eaters maybe?). drink a potion and you may see colored points rise depending on potion used (amount can indicate strength). basicly im talking about small visual feedbacks. and i belive we can pull it of useing the existing particle system, atleast as a start. hell, if we could get some small but nice effect every time someone harvested something it would give the game more life and we would not need animation on the models themselfs. later on the same server messages can be used to trigger sounds (if we ever get some)... Brom Report post Posted January 15, 2005 I have no say but I agree with Duran, you could add to his list casting spells, some simple effect such as a glow around the player when casting. Note: I figure you guys will build it in, but the opton to turn them off would be good also, we already have complaints about low FPS due to particles thanks.i

Ravenod Report post Posted January 17, 2005 (edited) OK :D I spent a while trying to perfect the bee particles. And while I'm sure it's not perfect, it's really really good in my opinion.
