cant get on to el

whenever i log onto el everything goes according to plan and after i type in my username and password it loads but then before the game opens it syas "el is encountering problems. must close"

 

ever since this has been happening my screen has come up a qyarter of the size it used to so this may have something to do with the problem.

 

if any one knows whats going on please let me know i really want to get back on el.

I had the same problem as you a year ago. I wassn't able to logg on. I gave up and diddn't play El for a year, even longer.

 

Sorry! i dont want to give you false hope. More people have the same problem.. I dont know what it is though.

 

After not playing EL for a year, i tried it one more time, and it worked again...! Just like that, on the same computer. Don't wanna post useless comments.

 

I hope someone can help you with this.

From the log in page you can go to Options, try selecting "full screen" in Options/Video, then alt x out and relog on to the game.

 

 

If that doesn't work again try going to Options/Video and select a different size under Video Mode. If you crash right after trying that, then make sure you try changing the size, then alt x and relog on to the game.

thanks i got the screen back to the old size but i still cant login

Try looking into el.ini and disabling all graphics effects. Backup your el.ini file in case that doesn't do the trick so u can just replace it. My friend has the same problem guild bot says he logs in and then logs out must be something with graphics unfortunatelly we cant contact him :/. You can also try and update your graphic card driver.

Have you tried completly uninstalling the client (and all the loitering files, you can copy things like counters and chat_log files to a seperate folder if you want to preserve them) then reinstalling from fresh?

 

Also via the options page you could try enabling poor man (ctrl and o, details) and turning every option off, see if that works.

 

Also updating video card drivers, usually found at the cards website

yes i tried that thyralax and where can i find the el.ini?

el.ini is in the data dir , typicially My Documents/Eternal Lands/Main (on windows)

Depending on your windows settings, you might only see a file named "EL", because the suffix "INI" is not displayed. Click on those EL files, when they have a symbol similar to a text file.

 

When you find a file starting with this lines

 

Only directives that start with a # are taken in consideration

Anything else is treated as a comment

For the directives that accept a boolean value (on/off), 0 is off, 1 is on

 

!!!WARNING!!!

Make a backup of this file, before messing with it. In case it gets corrupted, the game might

okay, try turning the fields that have a 1 to a 0.

 

things like shadows, cloud shadows, reflections etc. as long as you have a back up of the file (incase it goes very bad) just change settings and see what works or doesnt

 

As i say this is as long as you have tried updating your graphics card drivers etc.

what grapics card do you have in your pc?

 

once you find out you can head to the website that supports it and find a new driver (hopefully)

anyhow, once you have found that out, there is probably a link to the manufactuers website there as well. If not just do a net search and it will come up
