falonor Report post Posted December 18, 2007 This is what I did : ~ un-instaled EL 1.40 , deleted all remaining files ; ~ downloaded the EL.exe file ; ran the instal ; ~ the game's folder is in the default path > C:\Program Files\Eternal Lands It is a clean Windows XP SP 2 instal after formating the C: partition . All drivers instaled and updated . All win updates available as well . This is what I encountered : ~ upon loading EL , been prompted to choose the server's language ; default is " Select English Language " ; trying to hit save would not work and the game is stuck to that point . ~ this is the third time I fresh instal EL 1.5 ;the first time, when providing a User and Pass was not able to click Login ; if I hit Enter ,the game closed automaticaly ; in case I tried to create a new character , the game froze . Hardware : AMD Sempron 2400+ ; 1.6 GHz ; 512 MB of RAM Radeon 9200 Pro AGP ; 500 MHz ; 128 MB also plenty of hard drive space ; 7200 RPM , if it even counts Bottom line , how can I succesfuly make EL work ? Also can u tell me what file/s to modify so that the game would automaticaly recognize English as default server language ; and what files , if possible , can be altered succesfuly so EL sets my User and Pass also automaticaly and attempts to log ? Hope this post is in the right place and pray it is not to much of a fuss ; can't stand bugs !
Aphistolas Report post Posted December 18, 2007 This should be under "Help Me" I believe. Try reading the threads there and in General Chat, Entropy has posted a few patches that could solve this problem.
bluap Report post Posted December 18, 2007 (edited) Like Aphistolas said, you'll find plenty of advice in the help me thread. Anyway, to set the language, edit your el.ini file, the one in "c:\windows\profiles\<your login name>\My Documents/Eternal Lands/main/". Find the line with #language= "" and replace "" with "en". However, I really doubt this is your problem. Clicking the save button will attempt to play the click sound. Many other people have had problems with sound. To make sure that is off, again edit your el.ini file. Make sure the lines with "#enable_sound=" and "#enable_music=" are both set to 0. Also check that you only have one of each these lines in the file. Edited December 18, 2007 by bluap

Will get back at you with an edit and many thanks to you guys EDIT : stil having problems , stil not able to start the game the instal is clean ; default path ; EL.INI file edited to minimum settings , the two EL.INI files coincide sound , shadows are off . [01:54:42] GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object extension found, using it. [01:54:42] Couldn't find the GL_EXT_framebuffer_object extension, not using it... Also might it have something to do with the ATI ? Should I edit some of the files , look for specific drivers or codecs ? What about the sound error ? What is up with that ? ( #enable_sound= 0 and #enable_music= 0 set in both EL.INI ) Please get back at me as soon as possible . Edited December 19, 2007 by falonor
Ryala Report post Posted December 19, 2007 EDIT : stil having problems , stil not able to start the game the instal is clean ; default path ; EL.INI file edited to minimum settings , the two EL.INI files coincide sound , shadows are off . [01:54:52] Error opening sound configuration file I have seen this issue with someone else. Even with the sound turned off in EL.INI, you will get this error if you have a sound_config.xml from a previous version of EL. This file should be in "C:\Program Files\Eternal Lands\Sound". Try downloading el_sound_150.zip from the game download page (if you haven't already) and extract it to your "C:\Program Files\Eternal Lands" folder with the "preserve folders" option turned on. If you have two "Sound" folders (ie, "C:\Program Files\Eternal Lands\Sound\Sound"), it means you have extracted the files to the wrong place and you're still using the old version. But... that particular sound issue shouldn't freeze your client. The freezing seems to be related to your graphics card and/or settings. Double-check that you have the latest drivers for your card and the latest version of DirectX. Also make sure that you only have one driver installed for your card - you can check this in My Computer (right-click) / Properties / Hardware / Device Manager. If you have more than one "Display adapter" listed, delete them all, reboot, and then reinstall the latest graphics driver for your card. Good luck. Entropy Report post Posted December 22, 2007 Actually, there are some issues with the client where it will sometimes crash if the sound is not found but enabled. It's been solved in the CVS though.
