Arnieman Report post Posted October 4, 2005 Go to the folder you installed EL in (default for Windows is C:\Program Files\Eternal Lands\). Open Error_log.txt and see what it says. Post everything you see (cut multiple lines, some things repeat over and over) here, and that might help us help you.
Daxon Report post Posted October 4, 2005 I had that crash problem too before.. creating new characters and all (test server). I think my problem was that I didn't have the newcharactermap.elm in my map folder. Do you have that file?

Derin Report post Posted October 5, 2005 Ok, then I suggest updating your graphics drivers. See: http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=13060 It's the ATi-link you are looking for
smalul Report post Posted October 5, 2005 I have the exact same problem - more than 50% of the time I try to start the client, it crashes, and like Rilder, I get a very long log, with a lot of repeated lines. The main lines: Log started at 2005-10-05 14:41:51Error: Can't open file "./textures/fontv.bmp" No Anim: ./animations/player_slash1.caf ... One more thing - I think this problem started when I set the client to start in full screen mode (1024 X 768 32 bit I believe).

smalul Report post Posted October 5, 2005 It could, but it doesn't - I have updated the video drivers to the latest version, but it still doesn't help. Here are the pictures of the error I get: http://www.geocities.com/smalul/EL-Crash1.PNG http://www.geocities.com/smalul/EL-Crash2.PNG The log is still very very long (there must be a bug in the error log generator), and still showning the same errors. Oh, and my firewall is NIS 2005 (I don't think it has something to do with this problem, just with the "BD Insane 4.0" attack warning).

Have you tried updating your windows drivers as have been suggested?
smalul Report post Posted October 5, 2005 It could, but it doesn't - I have updated the video drivers to the latest version, but it still doesn't help. Not only have I updated my drivers to the lastest version, I have done a clean removal of the previous version (safe mode, removal tool).

freeone3000 Report post Posted October 6, 2005 fontv.bmp isn't important, just the third font. animations/player_slash1.caf IS physically there, right? Same with animations/canine_pain.caf? The "unable to add command" junk is probably what caused it. They're the actor commands, I think, but I don't remember which one is which.
smalul Report post Posted October 6, 2005 Just to make sure. Do you have Catalyst 5.9 installed now? 205759[/snapback] Yes. I must note that with those drivers the crashes seems more frequent - now I have to start the client 2 or 3 times before I can play, while before the first time I tried to run the client it crashes, and the second time it worked. One more thing - the crashes only happen after I try to log in (after I enter my username/pass and press enter) - not before.

Puntif Report post Posted October 6, 2005 animations/player_slash1.caf IS physically there, right? Same with animations/canine_pain.caf? Ummmm . . . I can play the game with no crashes (running Linux using a CVS compiled after Grum fixed my segfault problem). My error log also contains the messages: No Anim: ./animations/player_slash1.caf No Anim: ./animations/canine_pain.caf I do not have the canine_pain.caf file but I do have a canine_pain1.caf file. I do have the player_slash1.caf file. I would like to see the cause of these messages resolved but they do not cause me to crash.

Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update.

Get the uninstall tool ad reinstall the graphicsdrivers again. For WinXP this paricular driver set is called: 5-9_xp-2k_dd_cp_wdm_26409.exe And the catalyst uninstaller, you find here: https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9448/1m/dlm...uninstaller.exe Edited October 6, 2005 by Derin

Derin Report post Posted October 6, 2005 Sorry Rilder. have you reinstalled the game? Remove your previous installation and install again using: The test client that Entropy posted about here http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=18140 You can also try to disable the global filters in your EL.ini file and restart (just disabling it in game does nothing)
freeone3000 Report post Posted October 7, 2005 (edited) You're running a 64-bit, right? You might wanna try compiling CVS. That might help some, at the least it'll run faster. I think you may have to add a flag to the makefile, though. Edited October 7, 2005 by freeone3000
