Physical Marks

Recommended Posts

I know there is the mark system on maps, but indoors, you can't neccesarily use maps unless you have a map pack.

It would be nice you could also place down flag markers, they could be marked on the map like a normal mark or be a "ghost" mark that only appears when you see them, not on the map.

Could be useful for scouting and the likes, and especially useful to pinpoint locations

edit: these would only show for the player like the F9 fires and marks do, obviously

so like the F9 flare, except they're saved?

on one hand, this would change the use of caves a lot... you no longer have to remember your way around (for a long time, I knew how to get to the silver in CC by simply following the wall. adding a tabmap changed that quickly)

on the other hand, user-made maps have already done that (and you can always add blank maps for any you don't have. I think el-cel has a blank.bmp with the right size and all for the users who don't want to mess with settings in paint. just make a copy with the name of every .elm that you don't have a .bmp for and you can #mark away)

the one thing this would work for, where using a blank tabmap wouldn't, is small-scale mazes (I'm sure many people can think of an example or two)... if you have it marked on your screen, that does go a long way to defeating the mazes

I this would work notably well in pk, you could set up routes to follow or avoid, especially since you wouldn't have to flip open the map and risk being attacked

another instance could also be for hell (for people who don't have map add-ons)

specifically pointing out where resources are would be great for me, more for the whole colorblindness bit I can't tell what some flowers are at first without having to go pick one to check

edit: some command ideas

#Flag_Mark X

#Ghost_Mark X

#Remove_Flag X

#Set_Flag_Color X (color)

flags could just be simple semitransparent 2D flagpoles with a flag at the top with the title of it written in the flag, even as simple as a black line with a box for a more HUD style design

I like this idea very much for all the reasons already accounted up there :)

could the existing map marking not be modified to a) hold a more accurate locations and B) an option be included to show map markings as a flag of some kind in the main window?

they're to the coordinate... more accurate (as in decimal co-ords) isn't needed.

they could be shown in-game as well... there's no technical reason why this can't be done... but as I said before, this would make getting around black-mazes far too easy

if it's by the coord, I'd doubt it, I tried that with bags once it's alot harder than you'd think XD

With black mazes you don't see the flooring, so you'll likely mix up the flags constantly, not to mention all those flags would be an eyesore for the player

*wonders why he just replied to a thread last posted in over a week ago*
