Platyna Report post Posted September 15, 2004 In a forest a fox bumps into a little rabbit, and says, "Hi, junior, what are you up to?" "I'm writing a dissertation on how rabbits eat foxes," said the rabbit. "Come now, friend rabbit, you know that's impossible!" "Well, follow me and I'll show you." They both go into the rabbit's dwelling and after a while the rabbit emerges with a satisfied expression on his face. Comes along a wolf. "Hello, what are we doing these days?" "I'm writing the second chapter of my thesis, on how rabbits devour wolves." "Are you crazy? Where is your academic honesty?" "Come with me and I'll show you." As before, the rabbit comes out with a satisfied look on his face and a diploma in his paw. Finally, the camera pans into the rabbit's cave and, as everybody should have guessed by now, we see a mean-looking, huge lion sitting next to some bloody and furry remnants of the wolf and the fox. The moral: It's not the contents of your thesis that are important -- it's your PhD advisor that really counts. Hehe. Regards.
fred_penner Report post Posted September 15, 2004 That sounded alot like a Russian joke. My brother-in-law is from St. Petersburg and has told me a few Russian jokes, and not one of them has been funny. The only funny part is when he thinks they're hilarious and we laugh at him laughing. For example: A man tries to throw a lady from the window. She opposed. The crowd shouts: -Stop it, man! The lady is alive. -This is not a lady, this is my mother-in-law, replies the guy. The crowd shouts: Look, she even resists... Wah? This is a joke? Seriously, my brother would laugh his ass off at this.
Platyna Report post Posted September 15, 2004 Well I think my joke was funny. Anyway about your joke seems it got burned. I know it like that: A man tries to throw a lady from the window. She opposed. The crowd shouts: -Stop it, man! This is only old poor lady! -This is not a lady, this is my mother-in-law, replies the guy. The crowd shouts: Kick her, try to kick her! Regards. Placid Report post Posted September 15, 2004 I agree with fred, there is absolutely no humour in that joke. Although teh banned 0n3na's original one was midly humourous...(i did say midly )
Platyna Report post Posted September 15, 2004 You both are British or something? ;-D Regards.
Placid Report post Posted September 15, 2004 Lol, I am but i dont know about fred. Whats that supposed to mean anyway?
fred_penner Report post Posted September 15, 2004 My point was, I don't get some of the humour that comes from slavic countries. It's either not funny to begin with or something gets lost in the translation. No offense meant teh banned 0n3na, I just thought this was a good place to make my point. Platyna Report post Posted September 15, 2004 I am not feeling insulted hehe. Look in Poland mother-in-law is a pest. This is our trading that she is evil usually by wife side. Hehe. Regards.
Placid Report post Posted September 15, 2004 Not to go 'off topic' but mother-in-laws are always pest's! that means EVERYWHERE!
Platyna Report post Posted September 15, 2004 So I don't underestant why you not finding this joke funny. Seems because you are British and they has specific sense of humour. A guy is trying throw a woman thru the window, people say him: Have mercy man, it is only poor, old woman, when they find out that this is mother-in-law then giving him advice to kick her so maybe she will not resist so much. For me it is hillarious! Regards.
Placid Report post Posted September 15, 2004 Sorry i think you got the wrong end of the stick. I found that mildly funny but the one that Fred said was not funny in the slightest. Thats all i was saying, no offence meant Dont worry us British do get jokes u know And fyi the root of most british humour is sarcasm.....
Cicero Report post Posted September 15, 2004 While most British I've met seem to have a stale sense of humor, British TV is a hell of a lot funnier. For example, "Friends" vs. "Coupling". And who doesn't think that Monty Python is funny?
Placid Report post Posted September 15, 2004 Stale....u must have met some pretty boring brits then (j/k). As for TV, yes British TV Comedy is hilarious. Try Red Drawf as well
Platyna Report post Posted September 15, 2004 Duh. I like British humour and I also like sarcasm hehe. ;-) Anyway I also like Polish humour which is some way different than british. Regards.
Placid Report post Posted September 15, 2004 Im glad your not American, as most americans dont get british humour (irony and sarcasm at the same time seem to cause problems with the brain )....... (Roll on the Flames ) człowiek idzie (chodzi) do zagrodzenia, *ouch*!
fred_penner Report post Posted September 15, 2004 most americans dont get british humour I've noticed that too. In Canada, British comedy is pretty popular but it never gets the same appreciation in the states. And you'd think that with 10x the population of Canada, the US has a better chance of spawning some people with an intelligent sense of humour. Go figure. Platyna Report post Posted September 15, 2004 American sense of humour is dumb, especially when they are trying to make a comedy movie, I see nothing funny there well other thing is when Americans are making non comedy movies I forgot a tittle... it is tragicomedy serial...a guy is sitting in small room, there is only a chair and light bulb and he is talking about his life his dad is alcoholic and his mother is a schizophrenic...anyone? Placid Report post Posted September 16, 2004 Not sure i know that one. But i agree, very few american 'comedies' are actually funny, although i happen to find adam sandler, ben stiller quite hilarious.....

Prometheus Report post Posted September 17, 2004 Damn... I'm American, and I thought the mother-in-law joke was bland and poorly told; does this mean I have no sense of humor? Let’s see... Q: Why can't Jesus Christ eat M&M's? A: Because they always fall through the holes in his hands. Hmmm, I split a gut when I heard this one the first time. Let’s try another... John Kerry walks into a bar. The Bartender takes a long look at him and finally says "Hey buddy, why the long face?†OK, only moderately funny if you follow American politics. Here’s one that a friend told me shortly after 9/11, he couldn’t quite understand why I found it rather distasteful, (perhaps my sense of humor has some limits) Q: How do you get a New Yorker off your back? A: With a Dust-buster. I'm not entirely sure about this but I believe MOST Americans are becoming much more cynical and less able to laugh at things that, when viewed from a distance, may well seem funny to others. Personally, I enjoy all kinds of comedy ranging from subtle irony to blunt and controversial types. Take Andrew Dice Clay for instance... Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater Had a wife, and loved to beat her Smacked her twice upside the head F*cked her ass and went to bed! yeah a little twisted, misogynistic, but funny as hell. I enjoy British comedy also; Faulty Towers was a great series (haven’t seen it in ages though). Monty Python...How can anyone not find them funny? John Cleese is one of the funniest and most versatile actors in the world. No, I think my sense of humor is just fine... could it be that crude mother-in- law jokes lack any kind of sophistication, and having been told for as long as there have been mother-in-laws, they are just not funny anymore? As for the Rabbit joke... it got a
