crash - potential video card problem?

Recommended Posts

I have a P4 with 3 ghz, and a radeon video card (I forget what exactly, but it is about 3 years old), and I am running Ubuntu 9.04. I can run EL just fine, but when I move the camera too fast it crashes, and my screen goes blank (even if I am running the game in windowed mode). Is this just a problem with my computer not being able to render things fast enough when I move the camera around? Or is it something more sinister? When I walk around in-game it is fine, only when I move the camera. And if i move the camera very slowly it seems to work ok.

Did it work OK using a previous Ubuntu version? I ask because there are several bugs reported on launchpad relating to radeon and intel graphic drivers for Ubuntu 9.04. Is there any chance you could get a debug backtrace of where the crash is happening? If you are using the Ubuntu packages, then this thread may help you get a debug build to try.
