White tiger stone + AMD64 linux client crash

Recommended Posts

I have tested this with the help of Senzon today and I have died because of it a few times.

It seems that there is a bug in some eye candy or something involving the white tiger stones.

I was running the AMD64 client since there is no other 64 bit client in the directory. I am actually on an Intel laptop.

When I was on Imbriglio Islands, I only got to see the teleport effect before I crashed. It was all done very quickly.

In KF, Senzon summoned a white tiger and as soon as I saw the tiger, I crashed.

There have been a number of level up effects that also crash the client, but those are much less annoying.

Please watch out for these and test for them on the new client.

I suspect there are different flags set for Intel 64 bit vs. AMD. This may cause problems.

Also, your CPU cores seem to be speed stepping down to 1GHz each, instead of 2.83. This could also cause performance issues, though not likely flat out crashing. I had to uncap my framerate or disable powersaving in order to avoid this.

Lastly, be absolutely sure that you do not have corrupt data files. Rename the EL folders (~/.elc/ and /usr/local/games/el by default, iirc), then download & install a fresh data package for 1.8 and see if there are any improvements.

I know it may seem silly, but that was from the 1.70 client. I have only tested the white tiger stones once on the 1.80 client and I did not see the problem, but I wanted to make people aware that the problem was there in the 1.70 client so that it could be checked into and ensure that there is not a similiar issue somewhere in the 1.80 client. I have no idea if I would have any level up effect crashes in EL 1.80 or not. Anyways, I just wanted to make sure people kept their eyes open. Currently running the 1.80 client and no problems yet. Thank goodness for that. :D
