bkc56 Report post Posted September 5, 2008 For years I've heard that having a positive food level makes you harvest faster. I've never noticed a difference, but I typically keep my food level up anyway so I'm healing from the damage mother-nature inflicts upon me. Yesterday I received a PM: since you're the #1 harvester you should know, does food effect harvest speed? I had to bow my head in shame as I admitted I didn't know. So last night I decided to test it. I let my food go negative and did my hourly harvest on dung. Took just over 20 minutes for 121 dung. The next hour I was positive on food - just over 20 minutes again. So for me there is no difference in harvest speed with respect to food level. Now it's possible that any speed difference is only noticeable at lower harvest levels when your speed isn't maxed out due to level (which I can't test). But for higher levels it doesn't seem to make any difference. So has anyone else done any time tests? What sorts of results did you get? Some tests with a harvest level <30 (or <20) would be particularlly interesting.
Lotheneil Report post Posted September 5, 2008 (edited) I did this kind of test long time ago on 200 blue quartz ( I was like 50 harv at that time) - I've ended up harvesting around 15% faster with positive food. I'm 83 harv atm, I'm going to do a similiar test again now. 160 nightshade (80 harvests) positive food level => 5:19 minutes 160 nightshade (80 harvests) negative food level => 5:26 minutes So no significant difference here, I'll try with bigger samples tomorrow and with dung (the only harvestable I don't have the level for yet) Edited September 5, 2008 by Lotheneil
Mar(c) Report post Posted September 5, 2008 I tested a bit just a couple of weeks ago; Harvest hour on Tree Mushrooms, I was level 91 at the time, ~8.5 minutes with positive food, just over 9 minutes when hungry.
The_Piper Report post Posted September 5, 2008 I just did a test with a brand new char on main server (harv level 0, that is) and vegetables. First vegetable with food level at 45 took 1:03 minutes. Second vegetable with food level 0 took 1:03 minutes too. Piper
Mar(c) Report post Posted September 7, 2008 I just did a test with a brand new char on main server (harv level 0, that is) and vegetables. First vegetable with food level at 45 took 1:03 minutes. Second vegetable with food level 0 took 1:03 minutes too. I think that the harvesting "speed" (per harvestable) is determined by: * harvest interval (time between 2 harvest attempts) -- affected by your harvest level, * failing harvest attempts -- affected by both your harvest level and your food level. The higher your harvest level, the shorter the interval between two attempts, and the less failing attempts. Negative food level only gives more failing harvest attempts (Piper's test supports that theory, but nothing more than that ). -- At least, that's my impression of how it works. Isenwolf Report post Posted September 7, 2008 Food level is taken into account when harvesting. If it is below 0, the chances of failure are greater. This is kind of old, and i dont know if anything has changed since then
