Entropy Report post Posted March 10, 2007 Do you have a laptop with an ATI chipset? Oh, yeah. seen your edit. Ati 9600. Great. FYI, I had a laptop with the same videocard (it was 9600 Monility), and it did the same thing. Turned out the video chip or video ram broke... Had to change the whole motherboard.. Do you get weird stuff on the screen too, when not in EL?
Aki Report post Posted March 10, 2007 Nope, just some green dots/lines on grey darkish colors but that's my screen. I heard i can fix it by changing certain settings of my graphics card but it didn't happen again lately.
Entropy Report post Posted March 10, 2007 Most likely it is due to the chipset overheating. Would be a good idea to check your video card and case fans and see if they spin properly. Try Speedfan: http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php Gives you a lot of useful info, like the fan speed, temperature, etc.
LabRat Report post Posted March 10, 2007 I had exactly the same thing happen a couple of weeks ago, it would manifest if I used the version of the drivers that came with the card, I upgraded my drivers to the latest available ATI drivers and they went away. I tried the latest Omega drivers and the effect came back, removing them and going back to the latest ATI drivers again fixed the problem. I think the omegadrivers are based on an older, potentially buggy ATI driver release, I'll have to wait for the Omega team to release a new version before I can return to them :/
