Visvate Report post Posted December 6, 2006 "Prior to 1980, Lake Peigneur in Louisiana was a sleepy 11 feet shallow fresh-water lake, that was until oil conglomerate Texaco made a major drilling error while exploring the lake for oil deposits." ....sweet jesus http://www.bunchofnerds.com/2006/08/video/...lling-disaster/ Something like this has happened to lake Vuontisjärvi in Finland, but there wasn't any video cameras around over hundert years ago. -Vis
Mugwump Report post Posted December 6, 2006 Egads! That's horrific!! Leave it to us Yanks and our greedy corporations to screw up our own backyard faster than anyone.... That was worth waiting to see even on dial-up. I searched and found some more about it including this quote from http://home.versatel.nl/the_sims/rig/lakepeigneur.htm Federal experts from the Mine Safety and Health Administration were not able to apportion blame due to confusion over whether Texaco was drilling in the wrong place or that the mine's maps were inaccurate. Of course, all evidence was lost. Of course now we have Shell and Exxon over in the Niger delta in Africa screwing up the country there....
