LabRat Report post Posted November 14, 2006 Over time the bearings or brushes in fans wear out, and scraping noises ensue, causing overheating of the card. Depending on the model of your card, there are shops that can get replacement fans, or just go the whole hog and purchase a replacement graphics card. Cleaning may work, but alleviating the problem may just mask the real issue - the fan is on the way out and needs replacing before it causes overheating problems and random system crashes.
