Found a couple more problems, and one of them made it worse in the Nordcarn buildings and cave. They should behave better now as long as this fix and another improvement doesn't get them stuck somewhere else.

 

The improvement is an additional step towards encouraging them to go to more maps more often and discouraging accidentally heading back towards the anthill when they are interested in exploring.

The ants harvesting, alchemy, manuing, and killing things has been carefully coordinated with Entropy. Matter of fact, some of the features they have he has suggested.

They are:

 

1) An AI experiment. We hope to get other real code out of this, like roving NPC's (including Bards and Guards) and possibly some interesting logic for monsters. Thats one reason they seem so random, it's the AI logic, not me making them do specific things.

 

2) They help cleanup junk, instead of just letting it go poof (seems more realistic)

 

3) They die ... they are willing to wander on to or be tricked into going to PK maps. At times the Anthill is even on one (their last anthill before I brought them back, had been in the arena)

 

4) Try to add more flavor to the game

 

5) Usable for other things in the future (capture the Ant, all players against all Ants in KF? talk about lag city!)

 

6) Used to test new code for the client or server. Most of this players won't notice.

I really love the ants and have a great idea I would like to share with you based on the ants (who by the way should have awsome red and black ant themed armor lol)

the bards and roving npcs really strike a key with me.

creative thoughts are starting to build some great ideas pm me ingame or here and I will let ya know them:)

Actually, at one time Cicero started up some Red Ants, and we were thinking about making them hate each other, but people yelled and screamed there were too many ants, so they were shutdown.
