  1. EL Urban Legends

actually ray, the question i was posing wasnt about if its killed by me or someone else, i was referring to whether the check to determine if an nmt is dropped is made enmasse at a given point, or per. Reason i ask is that i once heard that the chances of an animal nexus removal stone being found ingame was roughly once per month, waaaay back when the nexus removals first came out. Now given that is true (which may be based on something entirely different), that would mean time specific checks to determine the outcome of whether a stone is found or not. Which means it would not be unfeasible to suggest the possibility of that test being a single one off test vs probability against the whole playerbase as opposed to individual ones (individual tests would produce a far higher yield of positive results for starters). So, applying that to this particular example as well, if there were a lot of fluffy kills within a short span of time, a greater number of chances exists for an nmt drop than actually occur ingame at present, is that not so? After all, each player may have a 1/15000 chance of getting that nmt on each fluffy kill, but when a lot of players are killing a lot of fluffys that is a LOT of chance-rolls being done over and over again. A lot more than is accounted for by the actual number of nmt ingame...or at least the visible number, since i dont see many selling on market atm. Since there doesnt seem to be a huge influx of nmt, i can only assume that the number of players killing a fluffy simultaneous may only trigger one single nmt-check for the whole batch of deaths, with a random award of nmt to one winner. As opposed to X number of checks for each individual fluffy death, which would multiply the 1/15000 checks and give a bigger chance that an nmt is brought into the game. The same seems probable to me for enriched mixing rates as well. On joules day especially, when everyone who mixes fire ess is clicking away happily, I would guess that simultaneous essence mixing gets ONE check vs ALL the ess made by ALL players in that particular game-second, with X number of positive results = awarding Enriched essence to random players out of the subject group. If it was single checks VS each player instead, then the chance to mix one would have to be multiplied by every single player clicking mix at that point in time, which exponentially increases the % of enriched essence chance to come into the game. Is this actually making any sense to anyone? Or am I still barking up the wrong tree on it?

Raz, see Edit 2 in my previous post...which are you saying it is again? Are you sure?
  3. Ok..just to clear this at the outset, despite the fact I am using littlebro2's post as my quote, this ISNT directed at littlebro2, I am just using it to highlight my thoughts on this suggestion overall. Actually, you don't appear to be alone here, it appears the majority of posters in this thread have either not read previous posts by people in it, OR have not actually read the original suggestion by piper. That's why some of them haven't noticed his "restricted to equip/unequip on IP only" clause. A good viewpoint that needs to be taken into account from a newbie player here. Wait...emphasis on the word NEEDS. If a player isn't up to the task of clearing an invasion map it absolutely IS the responsibility of those who can, to do so. I am sure we don't need another reminder of WHY it is only a rat that is now pulled out from Dung? This is also an important point. We play for the challenge of the game, take that away and we're just another networking site but with better graphics, and "something to click on" between chatting. Absolutely spot on with the "makes things more realistic" there. It's been pointed out already about invasions from an RP perspective, as well as comparisons to RL warzones etc. Now..apart from those points, I do believe piper was right to post this idea up, I can see his (and other peoples) need to be left alone by invasion monsters, but sadly I'd have to consider that, even if the cape was created with all the heavy restrictions to prevent abuse as Raz has pointed out AND only un/equipable on IP, there would simply be too much problems to try to work out in just implementing it so it works correctly to make it a viable option ingame. For instance...how do you separate invasion drop bags from normal ones? If you're in an invasion map(PV) killing hawks on a daily haidir quest, then the drop bags containing your feathers could not be collected without some way of determining a difference in bags. But then..if you have the cape on, you couldnt attack the normal hawks anyways because of the restrictions....already this runs into the realms of programming nightmare, since at present the game isnt set to recognise differences or place restrictions on fighting certains monster Types. At least, not to my limited knowledge, it isnt. Even with that aside, there's also making sure the cape couldnt be used by a ranger, since direct fighting isnt involved in ranging (otherwise rangers would be able to use gatherer meds on kills). How would that be implemented? Summons...magic....so much would need to be written in terms of coding just to make the cape work as required, I just don't think the cape itself is worth the effort of all that coding just for the effect it produces, when it's far simpler to expect a player to stay away from the invaded map. And that is the main reason I'd have to say I disagree with the suggestion, despite approving of its original intent. Even if all the possible ways to abuse this cape could somehow be covered and stopped, it's clearly too big and time consuming as an implementation for very little end result in terms of gameplay that a tp spell and simply waiting couldnt resolve. Sorry pip. I just don't see this happening.

Yes...i got all that..but the point i am trying to draw attention to here..is..it isnt just you killing fluffy ingame. so at the moment of fluffy-death, your 1/15000 could actually be one of 59 other fluffy deaths simultaneously happening, which increases the chance of nmt IF its a gamewide and not a player specific chance of nmt being dropped...it would be 59 deaths giving 1/15000 then. (which, as i see it, means a greater chance that an NMT HAS been dropped SOMEWHERE)...um...not sure i am actually explaining what i mean here correctly or even if i am viewing it right myself ...it just seems there WOULD be a difference between the % being player specific or game-wide. I understand about the chance being the same each and every fluffy though...just is it the same by being server or player calculated chance? Obvious answer to my mind is that it's server specific, since, as is pointed out above, regarding the pker server post by prohibited, you'd expect to have that nmt after personally killing X number of fluffy. But that's where this urban myth is exploded then, which was my point for posting it...because MOST players DO think like that, that they SHOULD be getting a removal stone after XXXX amount of harvested items, or an nmt after XXXX fluffy kills. And that brings me neatly back to teh topic. Edit: Actually isnt chance of nmt drop from fluffy just 50/50? it either does or it doesnt drop nmt. argh??? Edit 2: Had a rethink about how to ask the right question now... does the server test each individual fluffy kill out of the 59 simultaneous kills in the above example to see if one of them would drop an nmt, OR...does it just check ONCE vs the 1/15000, regardless of the number of simultaneous fluffy deaths, (and then awards one nmt to one of the lucky fluffy killers if it gets a positive result)?? That's what i mean about being specific to the server or the player(s).
  5. the ugliest shitty mess I ever saw

11, you owe me money EP.
  6. Giant Rat

i really think we should let this lie peeps...
  7. #Today all monsters and animals behave in the same manner as Shy Rats and will run away from players. Just a fun one, this. This could be straight forward behaviour for everything, or a/d dependent to the player, as to the behaviour. Actually, why not just make all animals and monsters that are >10** a/d levels below a player, to run away from that player anyway? **(or other more suitable number) Tried a search on this suggestion, but all I could think of as keyword were shy and rat..neither of which are long enough to use for a search...mehh
  8. Giant Rat

Hey I know, why not make it a Mare Bulangiu come out instead? Cant wait to see what radu says on this one...honestly...
  9. EL Urban Legends

I think it's time to address a serious urban myth and uncover the truth behind it now. It's the one regarding percentages ingame. You know what I mean..your chance of getting that NMT from a fluffy, or of degrading that precious dragon armour, or even finding that lovely shiny nexus removal stone.... Like most players, I've always had the impression that a 1 in 10k chance to get an item means that ..if it was from harvesting...I'd have to harvest 10k of that ore/mineral/plant in order to get one of the items. I believe this is wrong. If i wanted an nmt from a fluffy and (making up the figures here btw, but the essence will hold true for radu to confirm or deny if he sees fit at the end) it was for instance, a 1 in 15,000 chance of getting nmt as a drop...i wouldnt have to kill 15,000 fluffy to guarantee that I'd get an nmt. I think what most players, and myself up til now, have failed to realise is..it isnt ONE player killing 15,000 fluffy that would cause an NMt to be dropped...it's 15,000 fluffy being killed that causes it. So in actual fact, i could kill 14,999 fluffy in SKF and get no NMT on the next one i kill, coz it turns out someone in grubani killed the 15,000 one and got nmt. This theory of mine about this EL-wide myth regarding chances to get items or have breakages affects a lot of players ingame who probably shared my original views about the % being player specific, as opposed to server-wide. Can we have some enlightment on this one please Radu?? It would explain a lot of "unlucky" players out there who have never yet found that first removal stone.
  10. EL Urban Legends

Aw, come on! You made that one up! How did you know that, since you can't wear FR if you has FR perk already! 1. i dont have fr perk, i use the cloak. 2. i havent tried any of these "legends" with the exception of one. i am not saying which. 3. i am amused that you think i would make any of this stuff up.
  11. Quest sudjestion

Tough call on this one, I dont know if the server can recognise whether a player who killed X creature was equipped with Y item at the time of the kill or not, but I am betting it would take a bit of jiggery pokery at the programming side to ensure it can (if it cant already) just in order to give us a pop-up "All the Y creatures are dead". Would require a dev to say if this is possible atm or what. That aside, ranging kills quest would be an awesome idea, I likez it.
  12. Day of the rubber chicken

If you mean like all the time, and not just this special day, then good luck hunting 30 rabbits or 30 spiders for daily quest using only melee means (not everyone wants to be archer/mage, some of us just want a pure plain bloody close quarter combat...) If you have tried the spiders, you'd know they already seem to run away from you..what difference would it make if they actually did? I honestly think it'd be a good thing to see them run from teh nasty serp wielding players. Would also be another reason for buying up those last remaining speed hax potions, no?
  13. EL Urban Legends

Using fr removal stone while wearing fr cape gives free pickpoints wooooot?
  14. EL Urban Legends

Untrue, I can verify that in fact the pr0 drops come if both you and troll are fighting on the long benches. Coming up to the 40k mark on my counters tomorrow btw, in case there's any doubts about my research into this one... Here's a new one: Rapier of Death, mixed with radioactive rapier ings(minus the normal rapier part, obviously) gives a rad RoD. Bet that would hurt in pk...
  15. Rate of Enriched Essences

wait...do you mean ME or my CHAR has to sit facing NE??
  16. EL Urban Legends

As yet, unsure if this is urban legend or not: Lenny can access c2 guild maps, bypass guild key secrets and kill ppl inside. The arguement goes that guardbots do not recognise non-player actors as invading a guildmap so lenny gets by freely and can wreak havoc.
  17. EL Urban Legends

I'm pretty sure we're all guilty of spreading this one at one point or another..it's the old "X marks teh spot" one: Harvest from THIS ore/coal/sulf will increase your chance of getting a stone...no not THAT one, click THIS one. Other variants are: Harvest from THIS map, there is more chance in here for stones than in <insert random map name here> map. Edit: For Sweetthang: MY spot!!!!
  18. EL Urban Legends

Here's one you're going to love too: It's possible, if you're omg-wtf-incredibly lucky, on a normal day, to die in an invasion without losing a rostogol stone from your inventory. Insane isnt it?
  19. EL Urban Legends

Decreased rare manu day is supposedly meant to INCREASE chances to produce enriched ess, in spite of the #day description. No, really? Do me a lemon.
  20. new=bad

Don't forget that once you have amassed 30k and sufficient levels Makuyi, you can create your own guild and bring some of these new players who love the game like you do, into your guild. You certainly have the qualilies of being a good leader already, not to mention the ability to pass on what you have learned to these players. Yeah I know..you play EL for getting away from real life, why would you want to be a teacher here too? I'd have to answer: Because it's one skill you possess in abundance that you don't have a level for, but for which you are obviously ranked highly. Give it some thought, if only to get those annoying folks like me off your back about joining THEIR guild. - PYE
  21. Rate of Enriched Essences

There is a rumour currently going around EL that DECREASED RARE MANUFACTURING DAY actually increases your chance of mixing enriched essence instead of decreasing it. I lol'd, much more than I usually would, since I didn't start this one. This time.
  22. Male/female designators in name

I disagree with shujral. Please refer to my sig. Cant get more practical. And stop pulling my ponytail!!!
  23. What's your favorite fantasy book series?

Alan Garner: Weirdstone of brisingamen & The Owl Service, Elidor. Ursula K Le Guin: The Earthsea books. (comprising of A Wizard of Earthsea, The Tombs of Atuan, The Farthest Shore and Tehanu, there is another I can't remember and havent got yet though). Steve Jackson & Ian Livingstone: Fighting Fantasty Gamebooks. Joe Dever: Lonewolf series. Mark Smith & Jamie Thomson: Avenger series. These are gamebooks as opposed to normal straightforward fiction but well worth getting, if you are into fantasy games..if not wtf you doing on EL??! I've listed these as alternatives to those listed in the options, not because I dislike the ones there, but also because, to me at least, these books were what cemented my love of the fantasy genre, and were just as important as LOTR or Narnia. Alan Garners books were part of my schools curriculum and kinda rubbed off on me from those bygone days. Ursula Le Guins fantastic earthsea books (in particular the first one) became a part of my own psycological outlook and philosophy of life in general. The opening poem "the creation of Ea" especially, quite possibly the deepest most poigniant thing I will ever read, despite its short length. The fighting fantasy books were all the rage in my youth and became an overnight sensation, leading to new ideas on not only how to create an entertaining book that you can while away hours with, but also many computer games led from them. Joe Dever took the gamebook idea to new heights in my opinion with the lonewolf series, giving a depth of storyline over the series, as well as introducing the concept of character advancement not just limited to one single gamebook but as a campaign option. And finally, the Avenger series...I always loved the mystery surrounding Ninja in my mis-spent youth, and this series of books endeared itself to that part of my twisted psyche very quickly. A final special mention to the one book, which, whilst not strictly in a fantasy setting, is still fantasy in essence, was the book written by Rosemary Weir. I still own a copy and enjoy reading it to my children on occasion, even now, some thirty years after I first read it myself. It's a book about cats, who, after deciding they would be better off without humans, plan and set in motion a chain of events to get all their owners to move out of the street in which they live. They do this under the banner of their heroic leader, whose name not only is the title of the book but also is the name I am honoured and privileged to use in EL. - PYEwacket. (yes I know, there is a "son of pyewacket" out by rosemary weir as well, and I intend to get a copy of that too, now I know it exists) I sincerely hope that some of you reading this will try one of the books I've mentioned, or if you have already, that you find in them the level of enjoyment I have had from them over the years. Without them, I wouldnt be me. (Patrick O'Brian books are also fantastic, but not fantasy so I wont mention those here, since theyre more seafaring fiction...master and commander is one of the ones I will refrain from mentioning, as a matter of fact - yes ...russell crowe film..thats right...see? didnt even need to bring it up at all did I?).
