I agree. This does look nice. I'd really like it if more of those applications requirering command line installation (which fortunately is a minority with the package managers of today) would consider this interface to make it more accessible and less intimidating for users who'd like to use Linux without getting too technical. Concerning EL, your deb packages have really helped in that area as well . Great work.

Hi. I was looking through the forum and it seems that others have seen similar errors. I chose to start a new, since I thought it might be the best in here. I have not been able to log on for about half a year now. It seems not to be able to connect. It hangs when loading at the 'connecting to server' message. Main log is here: http://pastebin.com/Bg7b2LsS . Initially I thought it could be a port problem, but as I said I saw other similar errors in here, so I hope it can be solved easily. Regards, Zilvador.

Thank you all for your answers. It seems that I found the reason for the trouble. The network has a Cisco Skinny service installed for IP phones. The protocol uses port 2000 just like Eternal Lands. It actually seems that port 2000 has been globally reserved for this purpose. Unfortunate, since both EL and Skinny cannot be active at the same time. //Zilvador

I uploaded a new version of the log on http://pastebin.com/bjmP5zkK . This is a login attempt on the test server, which this time failed on first connect attempt to the server, but second time succeeded immediately. It says that some message has been repeated 14 times and that it cannot find my .dat-files.

Thank you for answering. I have just talked with my ISP, who confirms that there is nothing that should keep me from connecting on port 2000. I also tried making a clean install, deleting the configuration and log directory, but it is the same. Regards, Zilvador.

I should mention that by 'similar errors' I do not mean the same errors, but only that the first lines of the output is the same, though I suspecct that it is not necessarily related. I have not found the same error or been helped by the advice given in the other threads.

It seems that the coordinates given in Xaquelinas quest for Yarrow in Sedicolis aren't correct. There are no yarrow at the given position. It might have been a type error though, since I completed the mission by harvesting the yarrow ten squares away (128,142 and not 128, 131). //Zilvador

While I was doing a quest, I had quite a few reconnects. After completing the bug, I looked at my session exp counter which showed that I had made about 165k OA exp. While those numbers were right, the average at the bottom showed that I had made close to ten thousand million experience each minute and that I had been playing for -30 mins (was really between 1-1:30 hours). I havn't seen this error before, but the only odd thing about this incident was the reconnects. //Zilvador

Excellent. Thank you. It's up and running now

Was the CVS package discontinued? I was waiting for it to update for trying out the new client, but if it won't, I'll just try to compile it again

edit: Allready reported in another thread. I'm sorry.

I'm always up for giving my thanks to the developers of Eternal Lands . And of course to the game creator most of all! Keep up the good work and keep the updates coming! //Z

My db was taken from me by Maltik. I write this as a warning for guilds considering recruiting him. He ignored my pm's and the requests on another:
-
No, really. It's me! Oh...wait. If the cape was cursed....I should be able to sue Victor for fraud....and I'd be rich!!
-
Not really. Lost the cape in another...incident But at least I'm helping Victor through the financial crisis.
-
To clear up things...I wasn't training and the only thing of value I was carrying was the cape. As I was hoping to convey with my first post, it was in no means made as a result of anger, but more because I as a guild leader would like to know about these kind of things before accepting anyone into the guild. That's the reason that I make a forum search before accepting anyone. I am well aware of the danger of dying without a rost, have done it and suffered the consequences many times and know that it is not against the rules. The title of this forum was even a bit off for my purpose, but as 'Outlaws' isn't here now, this would have to do. Besides...I did consider the possibility of the language barrier, but figured that the possibility was low...and if it was the case, then the guild joining issue should resolve itself when he joins a guild supposedly representing not-English-speaking players. With the risk of starting another debate, I do consider it immoral to take a db as well as taking a bag in the usual 'bag jumper' cases. It's a part of the game and shouldn't be illegal, but I wouldn't want anyone like that in my guild, for instance And thank you too Maxine for returning my cape...hehe . It seems that you were right about the languages since he didn't even claim his own death bag when he lost it.

Aha..I see that our definitions of bag jumping are different. Then let's call it death bag jumping. To me it's morally just about the same thing.

Improve client reconnecting after connection drop
Zilvador posted a topic in Suggestions - General, Misc.
I've got a very unstable internet connection and get a lot of connection drops during the day in the game client. The connection usually takes a few minutes to come back. Sometimes the client realizes this and gives me the option to reconnect. Unfortunately mostly it doesn't. It freezes and I've tried leaving it there for nearly an hour both while clicking and typing regularly (attempting to send commands to the server) and while keeping still within the game. This usually ends up in quitting the client and restarting manually. I was wondering if it would be possible to implement better recognition for a missing connection offering the opportunity to reconnect more often without restarting the client, either by creating a command for resynchronizing with the server (and detect missing connection) or maybe an automated feature elaborating the one already implemented. -
Improve client reconnecting after connection drop

Very dynamic even. It could be related to the router problem I have. It has a bad tendency of resetting the connection (and thereby the IP addresses) every now and then :S Thank you for the explanation. Now at least I have something to blame. -

Yes, that's another thing....the counters. And it does get a bit aggravating when you have to restart the client four times an hour at times -
It seems like a nice idea. My main concern though might be about the way that this could lead. Some have suggested already P2P continents and though radu has denied it, I'm afraid that having gold users would lead to this later. When I look for MMO games on the internet, by main priorities for the free ones are that there are no significant difference between paying players and those who are not paying. Having a P2P continent would have made me skip EL at first sight if I saw it among other games on a MMO site. And now as a part of the game I would feel kind of betrayed if there's actually some parts of the game I can not access unless I pay (or for that matter skills I can't train or equipment I can't wear). I can accept the items from the shop, since the most important ones can also be made in the game. Don't get me wrong on this: I really appreciate the work the developers are doing and do believe that it's fair for radu to find a way to get payed for his work. I am just asking that it doesn't include closed parts of the game for not paying players. The current suggestions I can live with...especially if it would bring the rate of enriched essences back
-
What Cruella said. I'm saving the stones for when my manu get's better or for when I get those modable swords or for when I need an enriched essence, but can't seem to get one. Some items really need a lot of stones, so to me it seems necessary to save every one you can get your hands on if you have intentions of getting some high level items done sometime. And rostos...speak for themselves for the fighters
