  1. I do this thread following the portuguese iniciative. I hope this will be useful for anybody :-) I'll try to translate the help guide too as soon as possible :-) The first part of the guide is already translated I hope to translate the second soon. Ahora al turron: gente que se entere mas o menos del ingles y necesite o quiera solucionar sus problemas pero haciendo uso del castellano: aqui estoy yo para ayudaros (y espero que mas gente, claro). En definitiva: que este hilo es para lo mismo que todos los demas, pero ahora los que no controlan el ingles no se sentiran tan perdidos ;-) Y aqui viene la primera entrega: la primera "pagina" de la "Troubleshooting guide, please READ THIS FIRST, what we need to know to help you.". Un pequeño FAQ (Preguntas frecuentes): De donde me descargo el cliente del juego? http://www.eternal-lands.com/page/download.php Que mirror (replica) utilizo? No importa. Hay algunas reglas que deberia conocer? Hay algunas reglas para crear un entorno amigable en el juego. Lee: http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?showforum=16 Donde me registro o hago una cuenta para el juego? No lo necesitas. Solo descarga el juego (sigue las direcciones de las preguntas anteriores), y juega. Eternal lands no esta basado en navegadores web. Debes descargar e instalar el cliente del juego para poder jugar. Lo unico para lo que necesitas registrarte por ahora son estos foros. Ahora que he descargado el juego, que debo hacer? Los archivos del juego estan dentro de un archivo instalador de windows. Haz click en el archivo el_***_install.exe y dejalo instalarse en el directorio sugerido por el programa. Mira a ver si hay updates (actualizaciones) disponibles e instalalas despues de haber instalado el juego. Haz click en el.exe para ejecutar el juego. Usuarios de Linux: leed mas abajo para informacion especifica sobre Linux. No me puedo conectar al servidor Mira a ver si puedes ver a los jugadores que estan conectados desde la web del juego: http://game.eternal-lands.com/online_players.htm Si puedes ver esa pagina, pero no puedes conectarte al servidor del juego, entonces tienes un problema con la configuracion de tu cortafuegos. Las formas de configurar cortafuegos varian enormemente pero lo que necesitas es permitir conexiones a traves del puerto 2000. Si no puedes ver esa pagina, entonces ha un problema con tu ISP (proveedor de internet), que esta haciendo que no puedas conectarte a ella y verla. Intentalo otra vez o habla con tu ISP. He descargado la ultima actualizacion, y ahora hay cosas que se han perdido! Pero que coñ...?! Tienes que instalar las actualizaciones dentro de la misma carpeta donde esta instalado el juego, como si fuera una instalacion completa del mismo, y debe ser instalada con el mismo nombre de crpeta que utilizaste para instalar el juego entero. Intento ejecutar el juego y me dice que no se puede encontrar wrap_oal.dll , o cualquier otro archivo ("I'm missing wrap_oal.dll (or some other file)") Probablemente solo te descargaste alguna actualizacion, o pusiste la actualizacion en un directorio equivocado e intentaste ejecutar el juego desde alli. Mi nombre cambia a {beaver, rat, gargoyle, cyclops,...} y me encuentro vagando en {una montaña, el oceano, etc...}. o... QUE COÑ...!! Esto es matrix!! Probablemente has perdido/olvidado una actualizacion. Seguramente tendras que re-descargar todo el juego de nuevo. Windows dice "Desarrollado usando el IDE Dev-C++" ("Developed using the Dev-C++ IDE") ha encontrado un problema, pero yo no tengo el Dev-C++ !!! Eso solo quiere decir que el cliente ha crasheado/petado/se ha colgado/ha hecho *pluf* :-p No tiene nada que ver con C++. I don't have any music. Do I miss something? La musica es de descarga separada. Mira: http://www.eternal-lands.com/page/music.php La musica esta en un fichero ZIP*, tienes que extraerlo. Selecciona la carpeta de musica de tu directorio EL (el del juego). Necesitas un programa como Winzip para extraer el archivo. (http://www.winzip.com/downwz.htm). Extraelo dentro de la carpeta de musica, normalmente C:\Program Files(o "Archivos de programas")\Eternal Lands\Music (pero puede ser otro directorio en tu ordenador), si tienes la opcion de mantener los directorios actuales (en el archivo zip), desactivala, no la necesitas. Ahora abre el explorador de windows, ve a la carpeta de musica de EL, y asegurate de que no hay una segunda carpeta de musica en el, o alguna parecida. Entonces reinicia el juego asegurate de que la musica esta activada y con volumen mayor a 0 dentro de las opciones del juego. *descargar el archivo http://www.eternalmusik.org/music/music_full.zip es suficiente. descarga ese archivo en tu escritorio.   2. Crazy recipes and useless pots

    I don't know if this post should be under "suggestion" forum but... I'm sad about the potion skill. I was really happy to become a good potter but day by day I feel it's useless very very limited. There are some problems I find: Too many "only-dropable" books (true sight, poison antidote, etc... invisibility? accuracy? evasion?) The best hp recovering pot we can make recovers only 50hp!! I find when you reach certain level and begin to use items like CoL these pots are useless Because of the before point the only resource for hp recovering seems to be magic. That's an strong point in my opinion. Maybe i'm wrong but I find potions should be an alternative to magic, and seems heal potions are only a temporary response to that need of healing (supposing there's any time they're a reponse for the "healing needings") Our best "hp recovering" pot has an _ONLY DROPABLE STONE_ in its recipe!!! I find crazy our best hp rec. pot recovers only 50hp but I think about its recipe and I can't avoid the laugh. So, I don't have enough with the "low" hp it recovers, I have I can only make it if I drop a binding stone harvesting in a mine!?!? I've been searching for responses and other opinions to these problems and found nobody thinks different about them so I write them here to find what is the "reality". In my opinion: a recipes revision should be done, the difficult to get a poison antidote book is a problem (maybe only for me :-S ), and the potters need better hp recovering potions (and _maybe_ better mana recovering pots too), but it doesn't mean we need new potions with so much hard recipes we find too difficult to done them that we finally don't make them. Maybe I'm wrong in some of these points, maybe in all of them, or maybe I've told some trues here but I write only to know what's the reality of all of that. This is not an attack against the developers or whatever, it's only my opinion and the thing I've found talking to other players. I only find appart of the "profession pots" the potters should have good mana and life recovering pots. I only hope I'll get understood by everybody. Title: recetas de locura y pociones inutiles. Necesitamos pociones mas potentes. No se si esto deberia ir en el foro de sugerencias pero... estoy triste sobre la habilidad de potion. Estaba realmente contento de llegar a ser un buen potter pero dia a dia siento que esta muy muy limitada. Hay algunos problemas que encuentro: Demasiados libros "solo-dropeables" (true sight, antidotos, etc... invisibility? accuracy? evasion?) La mejor pocion de recuperacion de HP que tenemos recupera solo 50hp!! Pienso que cuando lelgas a cierto nivel y empiezas a utilizar objetos como la CoL (corona de vida) esas pociones son inutiles Por el punto anterior la unica fuente de recuperacion de hp parece ser la magia. esto es un punto fuerte en mi opinion. tal vez este equivocado pero creo que las pociones deberian de ser una alternativa a la magia, y parece que las pociones de curacion son solo una respuesta temporal a esa necesidad de curacion (suponiendo que en algun momento sean una respuesta a esa necesidad) Nuestra mejor pocion de recuperacion de vida tiene una _PIEDRA SOLO DROPEABLE_ en su receta!!! Encuentro una locura que nuestra mejor pocion curativa recupere solo 50hp pero pienso en su receta y no puedo evitar la risa. Asi, no tengo suficiente con el "poco" hp que recupera, ademas solo la puedo hacer si dropeo una binding stone recolectando en la mina ?!?! He estado buscando respuestas y otras opiniones a estos problemas y no he encontrado a nadie que piense diferente sobre ellos asi que los escribo aqui para encontrar cual es la "realidad". En mi opinion: deberia hacerse una revision de las recetas, la dificultad para conseguir un libro de poison antidote es un problema (tal vez solo para mi :-S ), y los potters necesitamos mejores pociones de recuperacion (y _tal_vez_ mejores pociones de recuperacion de mana tambien), pero eso no quiere decir que necesitemos nuevas pociones con recetas tan duras que encontremos tan dificiles que terminemos por no hacerlas. Tal vez este equivocado en algunos de estos puntos, o en todos ellos, o tal vez haya dicho algunas verdades aqui pero escribo solo para saber cual es la realidad de todo esto. Esto no es un ataque contra los desarrolladores o lo que sea, es solo mi opinion y el pensamiento que he encontrado hablando con otros jugadores. Solo pienso que aparte de las "pociones de profesiones" los potters deberian tener buenas pociones de recuperacion de vida y de mana. Solo espero haberme dado a entender a todo el mundo.     So, if I told I _think_ pots (healing pots) should be an alternative to magic and you speak about the mana recovering pots to use on the "magic way" maybe you and me are both speaking around the same thing :-p : that's the reason of this post: the game is oriented to use magic for healing and pots to recover only mana, not just healing. :-p anyway thanks for the opinion ;-)
  4. After the segmentation fault got solved, I have another problem. Like the other: this problem has came suddenly, but has came after the other. I played for 23 days without any problem and one bad day *ZAP* the game got broken or something :-) yes, it's so much strange :-) (I smile trying not to cry ;-) ). So, the problem: The mouse doesn't work. But it's not fully "disabled". I can use the interface buttons, click the skills, zoom in/out and rotate the camera, etc... BUT I can't walk around, touch nothing, attack and all of that. I can move the cursor (obvious) but although I click (and "activate") the touch, attack, etc... button, the cursor doesn't change. It's fixed to the walk cursor. I think I have no more useful information to give. Oh, and the keyboard works perfectly. Like I said on other posts, I play on linux, debain testing, and have a nvidia geforce fx 5200. And I have 3D accel thanks to the nvidia website drivers. I've tried the updated (at this moment the 100.14.11 version) and an "old" release (the 100.14.03 one). It's the same result for me. And I play on 2.6.18-4-486 , not the 2.6.21 version because of the "GPL bug" :-)

    So.... it has been a very very very hard time for me. I'm very addicted to eternal lands and I've been "logging in" only to speak with my friends without moving or anything. But... I can say.... THE PROBLEM HAS FIXED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant's express how much happy I am and how much I thank you for all the help, and the patience. All of you are wonderful guys :-) Sincerely: thank you very very much. I think I'¡m gonna cry :-p Oh: what I've done has been downgrade _all_ the packages with *-mesa-*-7.0.1-2 to 7.0.1-1 version. But the ones have done it works have been the libglu1 ones ;-) I think the thread is solved and I'm very very very happy so I can play EL again :-D YUUUUUUUUHUUUUUUUU !!!! :-D

    Ahuh! I am also running this exact version of libgl1-mesa-dri. If you can find an older version of the library you can try (my machine won't install anything else due to dependancies) that would be very helpful. Mmm... I've tried to get an older version but there's no option on synaptic to do that. On the "package properties" window > Versions dont's appear any other version. Maybe because of dependencies too, or because I'm running debian _testing_ ... I don't know why. No, the problem is certainly OpenGL, the question is, is the bug in our code or theirs (the lib). I know there are quite a lot of bugs in the mesa libs, but I can't find anything about this sort of problem (yet). If we can work out if an older version does in-fact work, then we might be able to help fix the mesa lib, otherwise it will be a huge amount more searching to work out what we are doing wrong in the client. Mmm... but, what I said about I'm not using the mesa libs because I'm using the nvidia ones... does it matters?? the libgl1-mesa libs are used to compile the game and it's not important the drivers I use to run the game?? I don't know very much about all of this, that's why I ask ;-) Anyway, I don't know any "ugly words" in english but it's a big "putadon" for me all this stuff (I don't know if stuff is correct here) :-) Yes, I know this is not happy for you too, but my addiction for Eternal Lands hurts me :-p Seems I'm losing the hope. Any ideas??

    Oh, one more thing: at one point of all this "problems road" :-S I updated the system via Synaptic. I've read the history os the updates and ligl1-mesa-* were updates from 7.0.1-1 to 7.0.1-2 . Maybe it doens't help because of my nvidia card and I use the nvidia drivers, but... I'd like to mention it :-) And, if there are more libraries I should look for if were updated, please tell me (I searched for libopenal, libcalm, libgl, ... ). Thanks a lot for the helping and, I still hoping the time I can play EL agains arrives. "For the moment" (I'm not sure this expression is correct in english), I don't lose the hoping :-p

    I don't find the word to express the happy I am after seeing the reply to my post. I was begining to think I'll don't have any reply. Thanks a lot. You make me very happy. I'm going to do all these thinks right now and edit this answer with the results. With the official binary (for linux) happens what I explain at bottom of this reply (so the same problem but I can walk) I think there was not a driver update because I do it manually (the nvidia drivers). Maybe was system update (with synaptic) but I surely think there wasn't any. And... I think I didn't update the cvs. No, the mouse bug options seems to do nothing for me. As I say at the bottom, on the official release it lets me walk. No, I don't. Yes, walking with the keyboard works (and sit down, etc...). One more thing: because of my desesperating situation before going to bed yesterday I tried the "normal" version. So: I renamed the $HOME/.elc dir (preventing incompatibilities or whatever) Unzipped the "normal" version file to "el_install" folder (the default) Run the game. Close it with [Alt]+[X] and then fix the game_data dir on $HOME/.elc/el.ini Run the game again and: If I check the ATI bug nothing happens.   12. Changed language keyboard ?

    This time the problem is under windows. I play the game right (all the right I can with my laptop's ATI radeon express 200M :-S ) but although I have the keyboard set to "ES" on my windows, the game seems to have another keyboard language set. I mean, it's obvious, the !"·$%&/()= chars I have from 1-0 on my keyboard numbers are completely another ones ingame :-) So, is there any option to set the "ES" language on eternal lands? It would be fixed if I play the game in spanish and not in english?? It could be a silly question but is very confusing when chat and try to make smillies :-p

    We use the SDL libraries for keyboard I/O. I don't know if it is possible to set different keyboard setups, but I assume it would be. At this stage the EL client only uses the default US keyboard layout. I don't know of any plans to change this and currently I think most of the devs are busy, but if you know how to program in C and are interested, feel free to develop a patch for the devs to review. I studied C++ and I'm studying computers at university, so maybe I could take a look and try to do something. The thing it took to me to ask was I normally play on linux, and there the keyboard runs right (on "ES" way) :-S . It's under windows when it gets changed to US mode :-S But thanks for the information ;-)

    Pues ahora tengo otro problema: el raton no funciona. Puedo interactuar con la interfaz del juego (iconos, mapas, etc...) puedo mover la camara (zoom, y rotar) peeero no puedo caminar, ni tocar, ni atacar ni nada que tenga que ver con interactuar con el juego :-( El teclado funciona perfectamente. Y tanto con [Alt]+ como con el icono correspondiente puedo sentarme y levantarme. Como ya dije antes juego en debian testing, tengo una geforce fx 5200 y para que chute la aceleracion 3D uso los drivers de la web de nvidia. he probado con los ultimos y con la anterior release (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.14.11-pkg1.run y NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.14.03-pkg1.run, respectivamente) y nada de nada :-(

    I've been playing for 24 days in EL without any problems. I play on linux, debian testing, and my CPU is AMD 2800+ (aprox), my graphic card is nvidia geforce fx 5200 (128 RAM). Since esterday i've been in troubles because the client often crashed or stayed in "black screen" and freezes. These problems have increased to the point i can't play anyway. I've read and read and read forum threads about all kind of problems. I've looked at the error:log a lot of times and i'm desesperated. I've reinstalled the game, tried the cvs version, the normal one, redownloaded both versions and noway. The last thing I did was play with another char and not to do any action apart of walking. I mean no use, no see, no take, etc... And I've tried the poor man option, disabling the eye candy.... all. I've searched via internet and that's a very terrorific error because of its unknown nature :-S I've read it could be a programming fault, a bug in my system, a hardware problem.... whatever :-( Oh, and: on my desktop the game works perfectly. I've thought maybe trying a livecd distro I could discard if there's some hardware problem on my computer :-(

    So... it looks so much sad for me :-( sounds like: sorry, we don't know how to do. And I'm sad because I understand how much hard it should be for you to manage these bugs and problems (I study computing at university and know a little about programming), or I can make me an idea about it. Well, I keep with the doubt about why these problems came suddenly? It's sad and I'm confused about. I had no problems when I installed the game on first time. And when I tried the cvs version I didn't have problems. mmm... it sounds complicated :-S Thanks one more time for the help. I'll keep waiting for a response for all the doubts :-p And try to play on the laptop :-) Oh, one more thing (it's maybe another thread :-S ): on my laptop I play on windows because of the mesa drivers. And don't know how to run the game correctly because of the ATI card I have there. It's an ATI radeon xpress 200m (if you know how to do it work on linux it will be great. i only obtain 2-7 fps on linux!! EDIT: i've read the suggestions about to set the particles to 0 and all of that. i'll try them :-) I can't enable the 3D acceleration on linux for my card. It's desesperating. I've read and tried a lot of guides without any result. I give up that theme. So: when I play the game on windows, the keyboard appears to change the language or something like that because the " !"·$%&/()=?¿*Ç_:; " characters are in keys i don't know. I mean, for example: the "*" (asterisc) it's next to the "ENTER" key for me (on my keyboard) but I don't find that simbol ingame (i think it's on the "4" key or something...). Can I fix that problem?? is there any option to fix the spanish keyboard on the game??

    Sorry, I think i didn't explain very well. And I said desktop when I had to say "laptop". I have a laptop :-p The mouse problem is with both chars. And as I said I have a nvidia geforce fx 5200 (128 RAM) with the right (and updated) 3D accel drivers. The game runs very well (speed and all of this). The only problem is i can't move or act with nothing. I mean: i can't walk or use something, see, touch,etc... but i can move the cursor, and click the icons (encyclopedia, options, stats, all of this...). So the only problem is: i can't walk and the right click appears to do nothing, because the only cursor i have is the walk one. I hope you understand me. Sometimes it's hard for me explain things in english (remember i'm spanish). Thanks a lot for the help. EDIT: oh, i forgot: i've already checked and unchecked the ati bug and mouse bug to all combinations and the problem is already here. EDIT2: I forgot to say I can zoom in/out and rotate the camera with the mouse too ;-)

    Sorry about the post edit, but I forgot the "Halcon's" version :-p Yes, the chat crash has been fixed!! great!! Now it apperars to be only a mouse problem :-( the problem with the mouse is already here. I can walk with the keyboard but nothing todo with the mouse.

    Yes, as i said, i've tried to run the normal version and the cvs one. Yes, now I'm running the cvs version. But if it can be a problem i could run the normal one, no problem with that. Halcon, my other char (the one i had to create to run the game again) has the counters file, but debianita (my real char) has none. His counter and spells .dat files got lost during the reinstalls (not lost, i removed the $HOME/.elc folder). On my desktop they appear to be downloaded from the server (so they are present), but not at this pc.   24. Soporte tecnico en español/castellano

    Pues bien, para inaugurar el hilo de soporte en español, yo tengo un problemon: Resulta que he estado jugando 24 dias a EL sin ningun problema. Utilizo linux, debian testing, en un AMD 2800+ o por ahi, y con una grafica nVIDIA geforce fx 5200 (la de 128 MB RAM, vamos). Y desde ayer que de vez en cuando el juego se me quedaba con la pantalla en negro, bloqueadisimo. Tambien habia otras veces que directamente se cerraba. Y esto ha ido pasando cada vez mas a menudo hasta llegar al punto de escribir algo en el chat y cerrarse el juego. Me he roto los ojos a buscar soluciones. He mirado el error_log mil veces y no hay manera de por donde cogerlo. Tambien he reinstalado el juego. Probado la version cvs, probado la normal, redescargado incluso la version normal. Y nada. Lo ultimo que consegui fue jugar con un personaje nuevo pero no poder hacer ninguna accion que no fuera moverme. O sea: ni usar, ni mirar, ni nada. Ah, y tambien he probado lo del poor man, tocar el eye candy, etc etc... Lo que mas me mosquea del asunto es que antes todo funcionaba a la perfeccion y nunca he tenido ni un problema. He estado mirando por internet y ese error tiene una mala pinta pero que mu mala. Dicen por ahi que puede ser un error de programacion, o que tengo algo en el hardware defectuoso, o que vete tu a saber :-( Total, que estoy mas perdido de lo que seguramente haya estado nunca (informaticamente hablando) :-( agradecere cualquier ayudita :-) EDITADO: finalmente parece ser que era un problema del programa, porque me recomendaron, despues de mostrarles algunos logs y demas, que actualizara el CVS, recompile y el error se soluciono :-)
