  1. Folks, If you want me to alch up your essence requirements or bars (iron, steel, silver, gold, titanium, wolframite, or hydrogenium) while you enjoy other aspects of the adventure, just pm me in game. I have level 76 in alchemy and it is growing fast. I may get the other bar books too one day, who knows. You provide all ingredients and FPs. Any quantity is welcome - from 1 to 100,000,000 - it's all the same to me. You get everything back - including all enriched essences that may be made. I get the free alch experience and that is sufficient. I will stop whatever I may be doing at the time of your order and get right on it. Small orders (under 25K) are normally completed within 24 hours. Larger orders can be delivered incrementally or in full, as your needs dictate. Orders will be filled in a first come, first served manner. I have many satisfied customers and am looking forward to working with you in the future. Enjoy the adventure!
  2. New Client is Choppy and Jerky

Ok, that's very strange. Do you have a CRT or LCD screen? I could only think it would affect something if you have an LCD. However, you said in your first post that you tried that and it didn't work. Also, that should have no way of affecting your computer in that kinda of way, at all. It makes no sense. (Really weird). I'm sure that he must have adjusted something other than the monitor's refresh rate. If you have a CRT, you probably want to figure out how to get back to 75Hz as 60Hz will often cause you headaches. I agree, it is quite weird. I have LCDs. I rechecked my diagnostics matrix and did indeed test using the 60Hz refresh setting. When I asked my hubby if he had changed any other settings, he simply smiled and said "No, just the refresh rate." Sometimes technicians really annoy me, even if they are family. One of the primary reasons I switched from CRTs to LCDs was the nausea caused by low refresh rates.
  3. New Client is Choppy and Jerky

It ended up not being the video card at all, but my monitor refresh setting. My hubby looked at the configuration and did one of those "slap on the forehead" moves (from the you could have had a V8 commercials) and simply changed the monitor refresh rate from 75Hz to 60Hz and the problem was solved. I reset the video card to the default settings and everything works as it should, regardless of FPS setting. No more jerky movement regardless of what is going on in the screen or how much fluff (eye candy, etc) I have enabled. I have to hand it to the guy, once I can get him moving, he usually moves in the 'right' direction. ;-)
  4. New Client is Choppy and Jerky

My CPU is the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 (quad processor) running at 2.66GHz. The highest usage I have ever seen on it was a whopping 8% when in PV at a crowded (and very noisy) storage. Normally it runs between 1-4% usage. I have the video configured now where the movement is almost satisfactory, so I am not going to worry about it anymore. When the movement starts affecting me, I will just do something else.
  5. Greetings, I have tried everything I can think of to make the new client as smooth as the old one was to no avail. The screen 'freezes' momentarily and movement is extremely jerky. You cannot imagine just how annoying this is. I have a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX with 768MB RAM on board and am using the latest driver (Forceware 158.22). I have tried all the available settings as follows: Image Settings - High Quality, Quality, Performance, High Performance (High Performance appears to deliver the best (smoothest) results) Antialiasing Settings - Application Controlled, Off, 2x, 2xQ, 4x (App Control appears to be the optimum setting) Anisotropic Filtering - Application Controlled, Off, 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x (App Control appears to be the optimum setting) Screen Refresh - 60, 70, or 75 Hertz (75 appears to be the best) I have tried every resolution from 640 x 480 to 1600 x 1200 and both color depths. While the 1600 x 1200 x 32 appears to be the smoothest, even it is almost unbearably jerky. I have tried every in game setting from Poor Man to full Eye Candy, Shadows, Particles, you name it. I have set the max FPS everywhere from 0 (unrestricted) to 60 in increments of 5. When I initially log into the game, I get the following info (a typical login - one of many configurations I have tried). 6. Old Laptop Works, New PC Does Not [SOLVED]

Well the Radeon is the ATI brand, but an 8800GTX is definitely an Nvidia card. I'm guessing it was a simple mistake. I have always called them Radeons, but the boxes say Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX Superclocked. I used to run in SLI mode (dual cards), but found so little actually supports that, I had hubby remove one and I am thoroughly thrilled with the performance. I enjoy the new toy ;-) Thanks for all your assistance in getting this annoyance resolved. The little message that comes up on login says my card will support all future features of EL. Should be a hoot. Here woofie, woofie, woofie...
  7. Old Laptop Works, New PC Does Not [SOLVED]

Appreciate the thought provoking suggestions. The problem has been resolved. I tweaked the Nvidia Control Panel settings and now the client works. A bit 'slow' and jerky (<100FPS for some reason), but I can fix that tomorrow I imagine. Thanks again.
  8. Old Laptop Works, New PC Does Not [SOLVED]

Yes, both full screen and windowed. No go.
  9. Old Laptop Works, New PC Does Not [SOLVED]

I updated the drivers yesterday as well. Have tried everything I can think of, including completely deleting the old client (and the new one), rebooting, downloading the new client again, making all the ini changes to reduce the unknowns, checked every available video setting on the desktop and in the client. Nothing worked, but yes, I agree it appears to be video card related.

  11. Old Laptop Works, New PC Does Not [SOLVED]

I downloaded and installed the latest DirectX yesterday.
  12. Old Laptop Works, New PC Does Not [SOLVED]

Windows is obviously looking for the dll file in the Eternal Lands directory, since it changes errors when I use an old (or different) one in that directory. The laptop and desktop are almost identical in reference to software loads. XP Pro SP2, Office 2003 Pro, and four games. Nothing else.
  13. Old Laptop Works, New PC Does Not [SOLVED]

I downloaded the client again and installed in onto a different hard drive (the boot drive vice an application drive). I get the same error as before. I disabled sound in the el.ini as well. No change. The only real difference in the laptop and desktop is the processor. The laptop has a dual processor and the desktop a quad processor. Naturally the desktop has newer, more powerful components, but I do not understand why one would work with no problem and the other not.
  14. Old Laptop Works, New PC Does Not [SOLVED]

I have disabled not only the sound, but special effects, and eye candy. It still does not start.
  15. I just downloaded the new client on my laptop and it worked fine. My new PC is another story though. EL will not start and I almost instantly get a MS Error Dialog box showing Eternal Lands Client Error. When I check the details, it shows the AppName - el.exe and the ModName - sdl.dll. I tried using the sdl.dll from the 1.3.3. client and it will not work with the 1.4.0 build. I tried downloading sdl.dll and get an entry point error in the dll, so obviously that is no good. I have also tried all the modified clients posted here without success. My PC info is: Processor - Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 @ 2.66GHz RAM - 4096MB Graphics Card(s) - Radeon 8800 GTX with 768MB RAM and a Ageia PhysX Processor Hard Drive Space - over 100GB free Version of EL - 1.4.0 OS - Windows XP Professional SP2 with all updates and patches No error_log.txt is created in the EL directory Connection speed - 1.5MB Nothing else is running - no Norton, no firewall, no TSRs, nothing. Any assistance or advice you can offer would be appreciated. Playing EL on the laptop is a non-starter, as hubby normally has it with him.
