Revised Religion/Items/Nexuses ideas.

Recommended Posts

The world was now a place of peace, but for how long that peace could be upheld was not known. Races band together to pull through in times of hardship despite their differences. Elves working with humans, dwarves working with elves, humans working with dwarves all in an effort to recover from the war of ages that pit brother against brother, race against race and god against god...

The detailed descriptions are taken care of by the quest to be initiated into a religion. Also serves the purpose of the history. (see below)

--------------------------------------------

Gods Description

--------------------------------------------

Aluwen, goddess of creation. Attribute: Defense.

Bonus: Defense +5 for divines.

Temple Location: (To be determined)

Alignment: Lawful Good

Allies: Glydoc, Gaia

Enemies: Selain, Mortos

Advantages: Defense, Combat, Harvesting.

Disadvantages: Potions, Attack.

(OLD DESCRIPTION:

Fitting would it be that the originator of all life be a female, a mother. Aluwen was fair and just in her dealings, but was easily taken advantage of with her kind heart, open mindedness and belief in equality for all of the inhabitants of the world. The father of creation was evil, greedy and devious... Mortos was the name he held. )

--------------------------------------------

Mortos, god of destruction and death. Attribute: Attack.

Bonus: Attack +5 for divines.

Temple Location: (To be determined, portal to underworld? :))

Alignment: Chaotic Evil

Allies: Unolas, Glilin

Enemies: Elandria, Aluwen

Advantages: Attack, Manufacturing, Magic

Disadvantages: Defense, Alchemy

(OLD DESCRIPTION:

Mortos was iniquity in its purest form, he lusted for war, destruction and death. He contrived a plot to try and take over the newly created world by Aluwen by robbing her of her pure mind and body. This act broke the seal of protection on all life and brought about the first deaths and eventually the great war which he lead by force. Aluwen bore a bastard son, Glydoc.)

--------------------------------------------

Glydoc, god of war, valor, honor, and balance. Attribute: Combat.

Bonus: Combat +5 for divines.

Temple Location: (To be determined)

Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Allies: Glilin, Aluwen

Enemies: Unolas, Elandria

Advantages: Combat, Defense, Manufacturing

Disadvantages: Alchemy, Magic

(OLD DESCRIPTION:

The atrocities of his father and the benevolence of his mother set this god apart from the others, torn between the lust of battle and the balance which he maintained. He cherished victory, valor, bravery and blood. His ways are mysterious to the untrained eye but the followers of his ways always felt his strength when they summoned his name on the battlefield for assistance.)

--------------------------------------------

Gaia, goddess of nature. Attribute: Harvest.

Bonus: Harvest +5 for divines.

Temple Location: Tree Town (Could be negotiable)

Alignment: Neutral Good

Allies: Aluwen, Elandria

Enemies: Glilin, Unolas

Advantages: Harvesting, Defense, Alchemy

Disadvantages: Combat, Manufacturing

(OLD DESCRIPTION:

Born of the pure being of her mother, Aluwen, Gaia devoted her life and power for the well being of all life by providing abundant nourishment for all life. She is wise and ancient, valuing the life of a tree the same she would any animated creature. Rain, wind, and lighting are her tools of creation... and destruction. Wrath shall be felt by he who takes advantage of her generosity, also the reason why advancing in her craft is limited by the hour.)

--------------------------------------------

Glilin, god of construction and craftsmanship. Attribute: Manufacturing.

Bonus: Manu. +5 for divines.

Temple Location: (To be determined, somewhere in VOTD?)

Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Allies: Mortos, Glydoc

Enemies: Selain, Gaia

Advantages: Manufacturing, Attack, Combat

Disadvantages: Harvesting, Potions

(OLD DESCRIPTION:

Indomitably was the merry spirit of Glilin, father of creativity. Blessed are his followers with the gift of better craftsmanship. Often called the "Dwarfish Lord" by his followers and outsiders Glilin is often thought to be the soul of a Dwarfish craftsman touched by Aluwen, allowing him his life spared and evolved into a godlike status. Once being a mortal Glilin is looked down upon by other gods for his "impurity" but to this day never loses his cheerful smile or the blessed anvil on which he works his wonders.)

--------------------------------------------

Unolas, god of essence. Attribute: Magic.

Bonus: Magic +5 for divines.

Temple Location: (To be determined)

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Allies: Mortos, Selain

Enemies: Glydoc, Gaia

Advantages: Magic, Attack, Potions

Disadvantages: Harvesting, Combat

(OLD DESCRIPTION:

Another once mortal Unolas was granted immortality and godly status for his gnosis of the very spirit of the earth. He was first to discover the essences and is the namesake of all Elf kind. Born out of his research and hard work were the essences, available for all to use, but in his discovery lay the foundation for the great war; the struggle to control the very power of the planet, all life...)

--------------------------------------------

Selain, god of natural craft. Attribute: Potions.

Bonus: Potions +5 for divines.

Temple Location: (To be determined)

Alignment: Neutral Evil

Allies: Unolas, Elandria

Enemies: Aluwen, Glilin

Advantages: Potions, Magic, Alchemy

Disadvantages: Combat, Defense

(OLD DESCRIPTION:

The third "once mortals" was Selain, the contriver of potions. His mind was dangerous and knowledge exploited by good and evil alike. Neutral he remains in all ways, assisting both cutthroat and priest he knew no ally other than coin. Also referred to as the god of wealth he built an empire based on the wealth gained by his enhancements, the dark lord Mortos honoring his greed and destruction brought about by his hand gave him life beyond life, immortality.)

--------------------------------------------

Elandria, goddess of refinery. Attribute: Alchemy.

Bonus: +5 Alchemy for divines.

Temple Location: (To be determined)

Alignment: Neutral Good

Allies: Selain, Gaia

Enemies: Glydoc, Mortos

Advantages: Harvesting, Alchemy, Potions

Disadvantages: Combat, Attack

(OLD DESCRIPTION:

Ancient was her mind, body, and spirit, Elandria gave the intelligent creatures of the world the ability to refine items into a more pure state. The humans were first to exploit this early in their life, first making crude weapons then eventually empires based on wealth and trading with the dwarves who craved pure resources for their craft. Elandria is an enigma, understood by few and appreciated by all she is only seen by her deeds not her presence over the land.)

Worship

Divine Following:

The Divine Following is the worship of one god, the being would choose this as a worship type and gain a FIVE stat bonus of the god of their choice, but keep in mind upon character creation only three are available based on race. It is possible to worship ANY god, but once you renounce your faith (which is how you change it) you cannot join any other one for a week.

Trinity Worship:

This is the most common worship type. You will be able to distribute 5 faith points to the three skills appointed by the gods within the trinity.

Religious Hierarchy:

For now this will be controlled by Entropy/other admins. Later once things are ironed out there will be a form of electing priests.

Priests:

They have the power to excommunicate someone from their faith. (and only theirs, faith points will be removed and lost until the former worshipper changes religion or comes back to the faith after three weeks.) All faith points attributed to the god of that faith will be lost, if three priests of a trinity come together, one from each, they will have the power to mark someone as a heretic. This will make it so that the player excommunicated for whatever reason will lose all faith points given to the skills and be unable to return to the faith for three real life weeks. They can however join another faith or a new trinity after just one. For now the Priests would be carefully selected by Entropy so religion wasn't a bias popularity war.

Leaving your faith/Joining another/Faith Points:

You will be able to leave your faith or trinity at any time. You must stay within the said faith or trinity for atlas one week before leaving, upon leaving you lose ALL faith points. You only get them back after joining another faith or trinity. Faith points are basically the god's gift to their followers. When implemented each character will have five points to distribute between skills based on their race (as race determines your starting religion). After one week you can "shift faith" which allows you to switch your faith points between skills.

Another addition with this religious system could be discounts based on faith. Say the Temple of Gaia was located in tree town, if you bought something from a store in tree town you would get a (#)%discount for every faith point attributed to Harvesting. The same would apply for all gods. Just a quick idea that I talked about in game with some other people.

Note: The shifting of faith and switching faith has a one week buffer to help avoid abuse by players.

Mass/Gatherings:

Perhaps once a week or every two weeks there could be a mass or gathering of the worshippers and allies of that god, the priest would hold a sermon and afterwards some exp for that god's skill would be recieved. Other things can be discussed, feel free to reply with other suggestions pertaining to this idea or any other.

You might be asking yourself... what in the name of all that is holy is this? Well... its a diagram showing every god in relation to the other.

I am abandoning the idea of "starting religions" INSTEAD one would join a religion by going to one of the temples. There would be eight temples in all. The main god one follows would determine what enemies one has.

EXAMPLE: Galahadh has joined the Trinity of Aluwen!

Galahadh would have five faith points to dole out between defense, combat, and harvesting. HOWEVER! Galahadh loses a certain percentage gained by attack and potions.

The reason for disadvantages would be to make the game more realistic as far as the gods are concerned. Would Mortos give Galahadh the same exp for attack that he would his own followers and the ones that are not in a dispute between Mortos and Aluwen? Nope.

***Note***

Note, I will be changing the story behind each god slightly and writing a story based on the setting of EL and what I have so far. PLEASE give me some feed back, if it isn't in favor of this idea don't let it become a flame but instead make it constructive and offer an idea to alter it slightly.[/img]

Name Changes

--------------------------------------

Human -> Social/Interaction

Animal -> Critical Attack

Vegetal -> Diet

Inorganic -> Motherload

Artificial -> Equipment mastery

Magic -> Magic

--------------------------------------

One nexus point would be awarded to the player after completing X ammount of quests. This point could be used in any nexus they wanted with a total of five points per nexus.

--------------------------------------

"The gods granted those bound to serve with a sort of sixth sence... the Nexus."

--------------------------------------

Human -> Social/Interaction = Each nexus point would equal a 5% discount on all sale prices and a 5% increase in sale prices (Maximum of 25%, would over-ride the regional discount and counteract regional inflation based on the enemy of that god's range)

Animal -> Critical Attack = 5% chance to critically attack the target for every point given.

Vegetal -> Diet = Increased the maximum food level by (five or ten)

Inorganic -> Motherload = (#)% chance of harvesting multiple resources per attempt.

Artificial -> Equipment mastery = (#)% chance for a blow to completely miss you, equipment weighs less when worn.

Magic -> Magic = Increased EXP gained per cast/increased effectiveness or duration/mana regeneration (one or a combination of the above)

[The acolyte of neutrality would probably be found in a temple at Isla Prima, I’ve got a few design ideas for the temple and other things mentioned in this long ass quest]

1. Acolyte of Neutrality: Greetings Galahadh, if you seek enlightenment then you have come to the right place... I am the Acolyte of Neutrality. My duty is to assist those that seek out enlightenment through worship of the gods.

1a. How do you know my name you old cook?!

Acolyte: The Acolyte of Neutrality knows all... return when you’ve gained some respect. [player is sent to the wraith =P]

1b. Player: Tell me acolyte, how can I gain enlightenment, how do I worship a god?

Acolyte: The task is simple yet it requires much patience... do you feel up for it young adventurer?

2a. I am ready Acolyte, tell me what I must do!

Acolyte: *the old acolyte smiles at you* Very well... I will send you now to the library of the ancients... the location is secret, this place is sacred to the gods and the elders alike... disrespect it and you shall suffer. You will need this to be able to read the ancient texts. *hands you a small stone with a crimson octogram on it* Walk to the center of the library and into the portal when you are through, call upon each god after reading the scrolls located on the alters by holding up the stone and calling out their name. Once you have gathered information about every god and return to me I will tell you where to go. *a bright light appears as you are teleported to the library of the ancients.*

-----

Player is teleported to a cave like room with an octogram on the floor, at each point lies a pedestal with an old tome/scroll on top of it, each one giving off a soft purple light Player can start at any point and work his or her way around until all are read and each god addressed. In the center of the octogram is a teleporter that brings the player back to the Acolyte of Neutrality. The following is the text contained in each tome/scroll and the reply from the god starting from the north-most 12 o’clock position and working clockwise until all points with scrolls have been reached and read.

-----

Player uses the look feature on the north most scroll.

*A gentle yellow light is given off by both the top gem on the stone indicating the current progress, the glyphs of the ancient scroll also glow yellow and reform into your familiar language.*

The scroll reads: Aluwen, goddess of compassion, love, and all that is just and right she stands for the quickly fading good that is left in the world. She preaches equality, fairness and love to all who follow her ways. Benevolent at times she may be, lacking foresight and always trusting she can be mislead easily. Woe be unto thee who dare try her power... *the alter to your right glows red, an evil cackle can be heard throughout the library* In her loneliness her and the other ancient gods created intelligent life on Isla Prima, allowing them to build as they pleased. However all was not well in the land of the gods, in a jealous rage Mortos plagued life on the planet with evil thoughts, greed, hate, fear, and lust. Actions on the planet reflected those in the land of the gods, Mortos deceived Aluwen where he took advantage of her benevolence.. some time later a bastard son was born; Glydoc.

[instead of “more†use “Unroll the scroll moreâ€]

Aluwen’s purity of mind and body was taken from her that day, she swore revenge to Mortos. As Glydoc grew older, wiser, and stronger he realized the error of his father’s ways and began to train to become one of the most powerful warriors ever to have life. The strength and good will of her son pleased her, naturally she allied herself to him. The very spirit of the earth cried out at the atrocities above, Gaia pleaded for peace but none was found for Mortos’ greed and lust could not be quenched. Seeing the evil that was Mortos, Gaia turned to Aluwen in an attempt to find comfort in these trying times. For the moment the spirit of the earth personified, Gaia, was content.

[instead of “more†use “Unroll the scroll moreâ€]

The trinity of Aluwen consisted of Aluwen, Glydoc, and Gaia. Aluwen’s enemies are Mortos and Selain. Selain was an enemy of Aluwen for greatly assisting Mortos in his evil ways... continue your quest for knowledge by advancing to the pedestal to your right adventurer.

-----

At the moment I’m tired as hell and I’ll continue the rest soon, the first scroll is so long because its basically the introduction and all that great shit... I know this quest is long but it is worth it and can be continued at any time. If implemented I ask that the library of the ancients be available at any time for one to refer to it for more information, the stone being a permanent item. I’ll write more and most likely revise it... the library of the ancients should be available at every god’s temple, it could also serve as a warp place if a portal was placed behind each pedestal to warp to any temple. More to come later!!! :D

Ok, here is what I am thinking:

1. You will be able to worship only one god at a time.

2. There will be 3-5 levels of worship (ranks)

Each gold will require various tasks, to worship them, and to advance to the next level.

Each god will give you an exp bonus, on their speciality. The exp bonus will be something like this: exp_gained_from_action=original_exp+original_exp*(rank*4)/100;

So a rank 5 will give you 20% more exp, while rank 1 gives you 4% more exp.

Also, I want each god, and each rank to give the players a special ability. For example, level 1 for Gaia gives you 1 free healing/day, level 2 Gaia gives you blah, and so on.

To advance in rank, you'll have to, for example, give to the god 100 coals, and so on.

Who/why locked this thread???

I did and I also left a post why I did that. I don't know which moderator reopened it and deleted the flamable material but I would appreciate it if that mod would not delete my moderation messages in the future!
