Jaxbot Report post Posted October 7, 2006 (edited) Ok, I got a new computer, but when I try to play EL, it crashes right after I enter my username and password Here's my error_log.txt: Log started at 2006-10-07 16:32:50 localtime (Eastern Standard Time) [16:32:50] Error: Can't open file "quest.log" [16:32:50] Downloading http://www.eternal-lands.com/updates132/files.lst from www.eternal-lands.com [16:32:50] Error: Can't open file "commands.lst" And here's my computer stats: Processor: 1.7ghz RAM: 1024mb Graphics card: Matrox Millennium G400 128 bit Hard disk: 30gb EL version 1.3.2 My OS is Windows XP Pro Service Pack 1 Download speed: 1776 kilobits per second Upload speed: 329 kilobits per second And... what I was doing... well, nothing. Just trying to play EL, and it crashed. I've tried a couple of times again, and it still crashes Anyway, all I had open was: Windows update, MSN, and Matrox driver manager. (Windows update wasn't on screen, but the taskbar icon was) Let me know if you need more information Edited October 13, 2006 by Derin
ttlanhil Report post Posted October 7, 2006 crashes right after I enter my username and passwordhmm!try out my workaround client... there's a bug (in a different card/driver, granted) that crashes exactly there, which that client avoids. hopefully it'll do the trick

Just had to check EDIT: made question less whiny sounding Edited October 7, 2006 by Jaxbot
ttlanhil Report post Posted October 7, 2006 Just checking, and no offense... this is legal, right?the only modifications are graphics card workarounds, there's no illegal features, etc, so it's okay to use (there's one of mine you can't use on 2k, but you really can't: it's locked to port 2k1)

Jaxbot Report post Posted October 7, 2006 Your client won't work either Some info real quick: It seems to receive packets for about 2 or 1 second... then crashes. Because I can see what's in my inventory quickbar, and sometimes get chat messages. It's as if something is crashing it while it runs... but I closed everything that wasn't labeled SYSTEM from taskmanager...
Derin Report post Posted October 8, 2006 The matrox Millennium is a very old card, maybe you should consider getting a newer one. However, the latest drivers are from may 8, 2006. http://www.matrox.com/graphics/support/dri...p2k_596_004.cfm Dor the quest.log and command.lst, see; http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.p...st&p=245990
Jaxbot Report post Posted October 8, 2006 (edited) *GASPS* Dang it... I just bought this card I tried updating drivers, but it won't work. Ok, I need a suggestion for a good card to buy, but I'd prefer if it's not the: "$599.99 Geo Hologram Super" kinda thing EDIT: By good card, I mean a card that runs EL Edited October 8, 2006 by Jaxbot
Knuckles Report post Posted October 8, 2006 (edited) G-Force / Nvidia do, good cards, for about $20-30 on eBay, try those. #edit - I'm currently running G-Force 4 and all runs fine, constant 100fps+ on EL. Edited October 8, 2006 by Liquid
Lotheneil Report post Posted October 9, 2006 Ge-Force 2 MX here (old, I know) - no problems whatsoever.
freeone3000 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 NVidia GeForce 440MX. It'll run EL, don't expect more than 30 FPS, but it'll definatly run you less than $100, and actually can play most commercial games a year old or more.
