  1. I use Slackware on my desktop, but started to use Ubuntu on my laptop since it is a low usage machine and I didnt want to have to spend too much time getting it "Just right".

For a newbie to linux, I would suggest Ubuntu. They have the distro nailed down to working right out of the box so to speak and it would give you a good foundation to learn from.

  2. I've grown accustom to compiling from CVS for a long time now, plus I would be willing to bet there are not a lot of Slackware people playing the game actively to worry about needing a Slackware specific package.

If you are looking to create distro specific packages, I would suggest a ubuntu/debian .deb package and then an rpm for those distros that use rpms. I believe those are the two types that have the largest user base. It would attract users from those systems into the game that might be scared off otherwise.

  3. It's really simple in GWaR. PK if you want to , don't if you don't want to. Most of GWaR only does PK on no drop, but there are a few of us that wander PK off and on and some that do it alot.

The basic rules are: If they are red or brown tagged, kill kill kill no matter what!!!. If they are blue or green, help them out. Any other guilds are up to the individual. If you do PK, have fun & don't be a jackass.

  4. 1. Instruct better your new members about pk/pvp

If you see someone that isn't tagged allied or non-attack, expect the possibility that you will be attacked. Besides that, PK is part of the game, if you dont want to die, become pr0 like toomass, etc or don't enter a pk maps!

    2. Remember that pk is not outlaw --> there is a note when u enter an area

PK is part of the game, if you dont want to die, become pr0 like toomass, etc or don't enter a pk maps!

    3. Entering a pk map means action of war doesn t really matter if u are harvester/a-d trainor/exploring of whatever

PK is part of the game, if you dont want to die, become pr0 like toomass, etc or don't enter a pk maps!

    4. Remember its a game
PK is part of the game, if you dont want to die, become pr0 like toomass, etc or don't enter a pk maps!

    5. Dung sometimes happens

PK is part of the game, if you dont want to die, become pr0 like toomass, etc or don't enter a pk maps!

  5. Why do you use all that gear for training? There is so much cheaper stuff around, which is almost as good. Players didn't have all that fancy stuff in the past and still managed to train.

Exactly, plus with lower armor levels, you can get more magic exp. by casting more restores and casting shield to help out.

I've degraded one tit chain and broke about 5 augmented pants so far on fluffs since the change. Once I use up the tit chains that I've gotten as drops and the augmented pants I've made, I'll make some steel chains and more augmented pants. That means more manufacturing exp. :bow_arrow:

  6. Go to TD, and see how totally groundless this is. Anyone there? I've spent an hour there

    mixing with fruit

Tell me about it. I wander TD at times for over an hour and rarely see anyone. I just end up killing everything I come across for gc and the occasional drop.

I say get rid of arenas. I dont PK all the time, but when I do, I would at least like to see someone to kill or be killed by.

  7. Don't mean to threadjack, but while you're talking about mouse buttons, would it be possible to take the hardcoding of the mouse buttons that Florian meantions and move it into a config file.

The reason would make it easier for people with different mouse types bind controls to specific buttons. Some people have 2 buttons, while newer mice can have up to a dozen.

It does add a level of complexity, but for those players with non 3 button mice could change a config file and get the controls set better.

  8. .....so I'm blaming Comcast - hard to tell since traceroute sometimes returns results and sometimes it doesn't.

Same here in southeastern PA. Traceroute is very sketchy trying a bunch of different hosts so it's Comcast, it's Craptastic!

  9. From the terminal:

    [/usr/local/games/el] $>./el.x86.linux.bin test

./el.x86.linux.bin: /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by ./el.x86.linux.bin)

    ./el.x86.linux.bin: /lib/tls/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.4' not found (required by ./el.x86.linux.bin)

I always get the libpng error, but this is the first time I've gotten the libc error.

    Slackware 11.2

gcc -v: Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc/i486-slackware-linux/3.4.6/specs

    Configured with: ../gcc-3.4.6/configure --prefix=/usr --enable-shared --enable-threads=posix --enable-__cxa_atexit --disable-checking --with-gnu-ld --verbose --target=i486-slackware-linux --host=i486-slackware-linux

    Thread model: posix

    gcc version 3.4.6

  10. Found a bug maybe.

Kilaran Fields 135,57 I was shooting arrows at the chimmie with the stockade between us. He moved close enough to the stockade to get within auto attack range. I kept getting the message that I was in combat. I could not move or use a diss ring. I had to log off/log on to be able to do anything. I will try to repeat it and take a screenshot.

  11. I did install the pre 10 file that Ent posted. I did it twice just to make sure that I didnt screw something up. I even checked file permissions to make sure Wine installed the files so that any user could read them.

Ok but the log don't lie and they tell that your medium.csf file don't have any bone named 'arrow' so you should have done something wrong somewhere...

I figured it out and it was my mistake. I used gzipped files and so when I installed the new ones, the old files were not overwritten.

  12. Error log:

[17:52:51] Using the server profile: test
[17:52:53] no bone with name 'arrow' found in skeleton!

You don't have the good character skeleton. You should not have installed the files from the last RC.

  13. Don't mean to thread jack, but this seems to be a place for missile errors. At least I think it's missile related since I see alot of bone calcs in my backtrace. Please move if this belongs elsewhere. Fresh CVS compile and using the data files that Ent posted:

  14. I dug out my box or old D&D books that I've had for 25 and read thru them after I heard the news. Thanks to him, I entered a world of geekdom that let me play D&D, AD&D 1st & 2nd, Hackmaster, Werewolf:The Apocalypes, and many others.

    He was a great man.

  15. Even though you will give your cat a nice name, I bet you will never use it. ;)

Mine is named Inky (from the rescue, not my choice), but I always call her Fuzzball, Buttmonkey, or some not so nice name when she causes trouble. I never use her given name.

My Friends named their two cats Loki and Yoggi (short for Yog-Sothoth from HP Lovecraft's stories)
