  1. Ideas for improving game UI

    OK, my assumption of #sto being server-side was wrong and I understand completely about anything new server side needs the blessing of the God. Server-side filtering, though it would reduce network traffic, could cause an unwanted load increase on the server, especially with an unfiltered query. How much extra traffic would there be send grouping data? Is storage data only updated when a person closes access their storage, or is it a constant transaction?
  2. Ideas for improving game UI

    I have a suggestion that I think would be feasible without too much trouble that could add to the usefulness of the #sto command. I think it could be helpful to add a "by type" switch to the command that would return all items from a storage catagory (armor, metals, minerals, etc.). Example: #sto -t books 2 Book of Gargoyles Summoning 1 Titanium Long Construction 4 Steel Shield Construction 1 Naralik Ring Building 1 Unicorn Medallion Building 1 WhiteStone Ring Building Why would this be useful? Well, as you can see from the example above, not everything is named consistantly. Minerals, weapons, animal parts categories all have this issue. This would allow a player to do a quick item dump by category. Now I am going to make a big assumption here. That every storable game item has a database attribute that tells it what category the item should appear under in the players' storage screen. If that is true, I believe that it would be easy to add a switch (ie: -t as shown in my example) that would return all items from that category.

  4. Building and maintenance fee

    I'm not sure about multiple per-map or per-region warning systems that have individual construction and mainteneance costs, but I do like the theme based invasions of creatures that live in those areas. Bring in the mid to low level fighter into the mix a bit more. I participate in invasions, though I'm usually the first to die from something a high level fighter can handle. I'm not saying limit it to only those creatures. The resident's of those areas should have sergents and officer's to stir them up and lead them into battle. I do think the costs involved for the system should be scaled. More investment and upkeep means more warning, and lower investment means you reap what you fail to sow. P.S.: Pirates? Arrrgh! Bring them on.

    Off by -2 on a/d. Magic is right on the money. Way high on summoning by about 4. OA is 6 too low. A/D is probably the most requested stats, so it's a great tool. It give a good guesstimate. I really should turn privacy off. I don't care who knows my stats, but I really hate getting unsolicited buddy request.
  11. Today's "Little" Invasion

    Great invasion. I enjoyed the story line and especially enjoyed the animals being pushed out of C2 into C1. Sure I got killed by tigers, and black panthers a few times, but it was a fun way to die and I didn't mind losing my gear. I'll take a few more like that. Good job.
  12. New feature coming soon

    While playing around with the new bags, I did just that. I created a hyperspace bag with 10 different items, and then tried to create another bag with 10 more completely different items. The skull key is used up and nothing happens. The hyperspace bag stays hidden and the one I just tried to create stays put like a normal bag. So if you try to create a full hyperspace bag and it fails, it's a pretty good clue that your standing on top, so to speak, of a hyperspace bag.

    I did the following when it happened: 1. Try logging in constantly for 15 seconds. 2. Check my hub to see if it's on my end 3. Ping/traceroute to the server. 4. "No..no...no..NO...NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" 5. "what...$@!Js^####!!!!!" 6. Wander around the house like a lost puppy. 7. Come here.
  17. Problems with the update

    Change it to 13, not 20. Thanks. Like I said, I'm not a a programmer. For some reason the 20 change worked. Oh well. EDIT: I've tried to make a static binary, but for some reason make can't find some of my static libs like SDL_net and that's a little outa my league.

    For those having trouble with compiling the*nix version, here are the flags I used with the CVS version after changing "int version_second_digit=12" to "int version_second_digit=20" in main.c : OPTIONS=-DLINUX -DELC -DPNG_SCREENSHOT -DUSE_FRAMEBUFFER -DNEW_FRUSTUM -DBUG_FIX_3D_OBJECTS_MIN_MAX -DNEW_TEX -DOPTIONS_I18N -DNETWORK_THREAD -DWIDGETS_FIX -DNEW_ACTOR_ANIMATION -DCOMMAND_BUFFER -DAUTO_UPDATE -DNOTEPAD -DANTI_ALIAS This worked on Slackware 10.1 and updated 10.2 with gcc 3.3.6, libopenal.so.0.0.7, and libcal3d.so.11. -DAUTO_UPDATE works for me with no problem. An earlier attempt failed until I added -DBUG_FIX_3D_OBJECTS_MIN_MAX to go along with -DNEW_TEX & -DNEW_FRUSTUM. Just my $.02. Hope it helps someone out. Disclaimer: I am not a programmer.

  21. Release candidate 4

    Compiled the latest-greatest on Linux and the first thing I noticed that changed is that "Near Plane Distance" is clipped on animated models for me. Current official client: walking and viewing from the rear, characters/monsters will appear at the edge of the screen as soon as they possibly would. CVS Client: characters/monsters do not appear till about half down the screen. There were time I was approaching an ore deposit that I thought was empty, and didn't see it was crowded till I was almost right on top of it. I played around with the near plane setting and it didn't seem to do anything. System: AMD 2800XP Slackware 10.1 Nvidia FX 5700 Ultra 1.0-8178 Drivers
  22. The rollback

    And that I did. With the scholars running around teaching everyone, I decided to get experience in those areas that I don't focus on as much as I'd like. Gained 2.5 level in a fairly short amount of time. Sure I lost some things, but I think I was able to do more by taking advantage of the exp blessing.
  23. non-clickable trik

    Ok, I was bored and decided to grab the CVS client today and compiled it on Slackware 10.1. I had the no-click happen to me twice. First time: at Raven storage and mousing over raven did not bring up the talk bubble icon. I entered and exited the nearby house and the correct icon came up. Second time: tried to trade with another player. I tried to right click to go thru the icons to trade and it wouldn't do it. I should have tried the icon from the bar, but didnt think about it. I ended it up logging off and logging back in to fix it. Just found this thread, so I'll try the use_old_clicker config to see if that fixes it.
  24. Cooldown log

    Here's my impressions of the cooldown so far. When I started playing EL, my goal was to have an all around jack of all trades as far as fighting, magic, alchemy and potions. For me to sit down and make 1k of anything is not something I ever want to do. Just too boring for me to do. When the cooldown started, I was just starting to make iron bars with only one or two fails per 10 tries. Most of my alchemy time was spent makeing essence for my own use. The other night was my first essence sale to another, and that was for only 250 HE's. The only time I bought essence was in lots of 30 from Charn to cast remote heal at #beam me for magic experince. As far as potions, I made batches of 30 Reasoning to sell to Mira to buy mana minor healings to use while fighting. When they were used up, I made more reasonings to sell. I would love to buy magic essence from other players, but there is no way I can afford to buy 1k of them at a time, at least with my style of playing of jumping from fighting to magic, to alchemy to potions about every half to one hour. If they were sold in lots of 100, more lower level characters might buy that would offset the loss of big lot buyers. The cooldown really hasn't affected me with my style of play. I just added Feasting pots when needed.
