  1. whats your religon?

I haven't been following the discussion for awhile, obviously (sorry to butt in), and I usually try to avoid making "Me too!" posts, but.. very well written! I totally agree. ^_^
  2. I can't move in linux version

Are you using an ATI card? I think you can ctrl+click as a workaround. There is probably a better fix, but I do not know very much about the issue, sorry. I do remember seeing an option in the config screen for ATI cards, maybe you could try that as well...
  3. Linux help

Once again I have overlooked the obvious things, sorry
  4. Linux help

Sounds like you don't have your drivers set up properly, therefore hardware acceleration is not working. First of all, get the drivers from nvidia.com. After they are installed.. you need to make sure that your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file is correct. (I'm fairly sure that Ubuntu uses that file, if it's not there it's probably /etc/X11/xorg.conf) Here is the most important part of the file: make SURE that you change the last device section. The one that says "My Video Card", not the one that says "Standard VGA" etc... I think the main problem people have is that they only change the first section. If all else fails just copy and paste it, the worst thing that will happen is that it won't work (I doubt it will blow your computer up, lol). If you need it I can send you my full xorg.conf aka XF86Config-4 (I think xorg.confs are pretty much compatible with XF86Configs) # ********************************************************************** # Graphics device section # ********************************************************************** # Any number of graphics device sections may be present # Standard VGA Device: Section "Device" Identifier "Standard VGA" VendorName "Unknown" BoardName "Unknown" # The chipset line is optional in most cases. It can be used to override # the driver's chipset detection, and should not normally be specified. # Chipset "generic" # The Driver line must be present. When using run-time loadable driver # modules, this line instructs the server to load the specified driver # module. Even when not using loadable driver modules, this line # indicates which driver should interpret the information in this section. Driver "nvidia" # The BusID line is used to specify which of possibly multiple devices # this section is intended for. When this line isn't present, a device # section can only match up with the primary video device. For PCI # devices a line like the following could be used. This line should not # normally be included unless there is more than one video device # intalled. # BusID "PCI:0:10:0" # VideoRam 256 # Clocks 25.2 28.3 EndSection # Device configured by xorgconfig: Section "Device" Identifier "My Video Card" Driver "nvidia" VideoRam 131072 Option "NvAGP" "0" # Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate EndSection
  5. Potion of Extra Mana

I've probably made around 5k SRs total and I have only gotten 1 Extra Mana potion. I do have better luck with enriched essences though, heh ^_^
  6. my french keys aren't working

As I said in the thread you linked to, <alt gr> worked out of the box for me and I can type @ with both "<alt gr> + q" and "<alt gr> + 2". Same for other <alt gr> keys, only keyboard-related that has NEVER worked in EL for me is deadkeys. :glare:
  7. french keyboard not working

Odd, <alt gr> worked out of the box for me and I can type @ with both "<alt gr> + q" and "<alt gr> + 2" Only thing that never worked in EL for me are deadkeys :glare:
  8. whats your religon?

    Exactly ^_^
  9. Update test 3...

Are you sure you are using the updated maps? If you are using the old maps, stuff like that will happen.
  10. whats your religon?

Very true, anyone who claims that ONLY Christians have done atrocities in the name of ther religion is being clueless. But my point: I can't believe that God made most of the Old Testament laws, or did/sanctioned a lot of the things the Bible claims s/he did. I've finally learned not to throw the whole Bible out the window because of a few dodgy-sounding parts, but I can't accept it all either. I couldn't worship someone who I believed endorsed all that stuff - not just the god described in some parts of the Bible, but ANY religion's god. Yes, I suppose I am a "pick-and-chooser". :glare: But isn't it more logical to say "I believe that God did not do this/command this, so I will ignore that part and focus on the parts of the Bible that I believe are true" rather than say "Oh my, here is a part I don't like at all, so I will toss the whole thing out the window because none of it can possibly be true!" Though it's a different story if you don't agree with the vast majority of it... EDIT: That wasn't directed at people who decide not to follow the Bible, it's directed at people who will accuse me of "picking and choosing" the "feel-good parts of the Bible" because I "don't want to hear the truth".
  11. whats your religon?

What about the things that WERE a command of God? The laws that ordered people to stone their slightly rebellious children, women who were raped but no one heard cry for help... on and on. Plus the general treatment of women as property, which has always bugged me. (Unlike Jesus, who spoke with and taught women even though the culture of his day said he shouldn't even do that much) The Old Testament laws are really quite... disturbing if you read them and think about them all. I know that you don't follow it today because "Jesus fufilled the law" (And he did. As I said) but why would God order such atrocities in the first place? BTW I am not claiming that only Christians did this kind of thing. As you said, other religions in that day also had barbaric rituals, people in closeminded cultures even TODAY stone people for adultery and so on... and yes, I am aware that not all people of those religions and cultures do that either (I hate generalisations and stereotypes). But... why didn't God try and put a stop to those terrible customs? Instead of making it much worse? I AM truly looking for discussion, not just a mindless bashing session And I don't want to come across as anti-Christian, anti-Bible, anti-God, because I'm not... I guess I come across too flamey... it's hard for me to explain myself properly. I do want to get a logical, well-thought-out answer to my questions to think about - and to help me understand you, and others - and I WILL consider your argument it if it makes sense and it's not just a bunch of quotes as jrritter kept bombarding us with.
  12. whats your religon?

I know you're probably not going to read this, much less reply. Not that you ever really replied, and answered our questions. But I just can't let this go without replying. I can't. Sorry, lol... but a few hours ago I thought to myself "He will probably leave EL over the flamey topic! Meh, I'm not going to say "I'm sure you THINK those things happened, but maybe they didn't" because I just realised again how much I hate it when people accuse me of "decieving myself" and say "how can you listen to what you think God tells you, it could be Satan, you can ONLY COUNT ON THE BIBLE!" So okay. I won't condemn you over similar things. Can't you debate something in your own words, without throwing a bunch of links and quotes at us? Also, as Kala said, you CANNOT use something as "proof" of ITSELF! Infinite punishment for finite sins? Why does God need to take her/his anger out on people, can't s/he just Forgive? And why did God need to take her/his anger out on Jesus in order to Forgive people? We are nowhere as near as Loving and Forgiving as the God which I believe in is (no. I don't believe in the old testament god who destroyed so many innocent people), and yet we can forgive and forget, without having to punish anyone. And yes, I would really like to hear a logical answer on this. I don't recall anyone explaining it to me, not my parents either. (EDIT: Though I DO tend to lean towards believing that Jesus died for sins. I just don't believe that God will torment people forever for not accepting that sacrifice.) How can Jesus be FULLY God and FULLY man, of the "same mind", if he prayed to God? And God forsook him at one point? I'm not saying that Jesus wasn't sent by God, or he wasn't "God's son" or something of the sort... but how can they be FULLY one and the same? I'd also prefer not to hear "but god works in mysterious ways!" either. Thanks, may God bless you too. I don't hate you or anything although I disagree with most of what you believe and I find it frustrating to talk to you. Again, I wish you wouldn't quote other sources constantly. I'm not going to go around arguing the stuff on that site, but just as a quick, half-irrelevant comment: I have heard of extremists who think the earth is flat because the Bible, in other places, implies that it is. And so on.
  13. whats your religon?

Indeed... this is a whole 'nother can of worms but it bugs me how much the verses on homosexuality... and the concept of women... and witchcraft, too, for that matter, were/are misinterpereted, mistranslated, blatantly changed. <_< Even if they weren't outright changed and mistranslated (again, why do the translators claim to know stuff 100% sure, when they don't?), people still interperet them wrong IMO, ripping stuff totally out of cultural AND literary context never works. Yeah, no one seems to realise that it DID NOT come in a fax from God. They don't realise that it was changed along the way, not to MENTION, as you said, they basically just sat down one day and decided what should be scripture and what shouldn't be. And of course Constantine was biased and had a political agenda... So here you have almost all the groups people (writers, compilers, translators, and of course, we who read it) who were involved in giving us what we now know as "the Bible" with their own agenda. Completely inerrant? How? I believe that it contains much truth, but how can it be without any error whatsover? Sorry if I'm starting to sound flamey...
  14. What's your desktop?!?!

I never tried IceWM yet, lol. But hey, my desktop still doesn't have a ton of icons and playskool colours! Let's see.. I tried KDE (I used to be a total KDE addict and compile it from CVS every night! Feel free to run screaming now), Gnome, Fluxbox, Openbox, XFCE, Enlightenment.. I think that's about it. The horrid beta of Gnome 2.12 made me go back to plain Openbox for awhile - SO many bugs, lots of apps wouldn't even start... but now that the final version is here, I think it's worth it to upgrade. I suppose it's not an extremely major release, but there are a lot of cool changes including stuff like Cairo. Some things that always bugged me are fixed now and there are lots of seemingly minor, yet very useful (for me anyway) UI improvements and new features. The main feature I wish they would add now, in Metacity, is support for switching virtual desktops by scrolling over the desktop background with the mousewheel, like you can do in most other WMs. I need to run "openbox --replace" to use Openbox as the WM instead, since I can't live without that feature (habit) Oh yeah, and a decent menu editor instead of the half-baked one that they decided to include - the only thing you can do with it is remove EXISTING menu entries. You can't add new ones, you can't rename them... they could have just implemented Smeg or Denu or something if they didn't want to code it. <_< They shouldn't have removed applications:// in the first place, grr. I still haven't updated ALL of Gnome though, the updates are trickling in one by one a bit slowly to (unstable) Gentoo portage.
  15. whats your religon?

Heh, it is true that no one likes their own writing, but thanks very much for your compliments even though I can't see how you can possibly say that I "made my point clearly", much less that you "enjoyed reading it" lol. And I'm certainly not all that wonderful at showing "great restraint and kindness" myself! I accused jrritter of acting like "a brick wall", after all.
