  1. :P I believe that's how it's always been, tho someone needs to tell Crannog about the news before he makes me PKable... hehe

:P When will the vote be tallied? It seems the "cheaters" are in the lead now, but it's flipflopped like a Democratic presidential candidate. lol. I'm j/k, don't waste space flaming me. Seriously, we can't have the total counted until we're sure everyone's had a chance to vote...

  2. Race changes will be an option? Or do you intend to delete a char and remake it as another race? Haven't heard 'bout that one.

:) I like to do the whole making up stories bit as well... Mother Nature gets pissed off at you, and I call it a lightning bolt, (fitting, is it not?). The only thing to watch out for is newbies, who don't realize that there aren't actually lightning bolts from nature to worry about, besides the usual bees, cavern walls, and nature's fury. Long as you don't give out wrong information to people who are trying to learn the game, it's all good.

  3. :) I think there should be more custom channels like this. I mean, you could go to channel 4-2million, and what's the difference? This is a nice concept. Kudos to the original poster. I do agree there should be limits on who can enter the guild chat channel, whether it's a guild rank or special command to allow guild members to represent the guild.

  4. :D I was thinking, in most roleplay games, other than the MMORPG's I've played, (this one and Ultima Online), where do people collect? They tend to frequent bars, taverns, pubs, whatever the setting is. People gather at the place where they buy food, or drink, and they socialize there. But in this game, (and UO), it seems people gather only at storage npc's.

:P Why not incorporate the storage function with the existing taverns? That way, the traditional rpg feel of people gathering at the local tavern is achieved. Also, there are more taverns than storage areas, which would give people more places to go for storage, (thus, less lag). I know lag is a bit of an issue going to any crowded area ingame, even on 5 megabit cable connection. (Which is why I assume it's got more to do with system resources than bandwidth)

  5. I did quit, but I still wear my EL t-shirt.

And I'm giving away my site. Check the new thread in gen chat.

And if you want the elrocks.com domain name, wait for it to expire (it was a 1 year lease) and then it's all yours. I won't be renewing it.

:D You could also apply for the site, and if Fred is set up as the admin contact, he can respond to the email it sends to okay the transfer. That would keep the domain live...

  6. You know, it seems that the community is pretty evenly split on this. Even with the wording pointing honest people to avoid the cheating side, we're evenly split. It seems that if you pick on or the other, no fewer than 73 people will be pissed.

:P Could someone maybe post a more fairly worded vote, or maybe some different solutions, maybe some that have been mentioned here? This really looks like the community is saying that as a whole we don't like one option over the other...

  7. Thanks for the tip. I do know a lil about programming, just wasn't aware that when I was told I'd need to write my own "software", it actually meant editing a client side app to act as bot. A friend mentioned I should get the code for stripped down client, (elbot2?), and start from there. Will that work with Win2k3Server, and where can I get a copy?

  8. One problem: If you need to post chatlogs online, you don't have a browser, and if it doesn't put anything on your harddrive, where are the chatlogs?

 What about using the memory as hard disk space? Like, when the "EL-Live" CD boots up, it partitions a certain amount of the RAM as it's own usable virtual hard drive, and saves chat logs there? Then, include a functional ftp/email/broswer interface to allow people to upload their chat log if they really want to. The memory requirements would go up a little, but the end product would include chat logging if required.

<_< Ultimately, this idea would turn your PC into a console system, sortof. You pop in a disk, boot up your system, and play the game. However, I wonder if you have enough space on one CD to include enough hardware drivers for all the supported video cards and NIC's and modems (oh my!) out there, plus internet connectivity? For instance, I've got cable so I'm always on, but what about AOL users? You'd need a mini client that AOL allows to connect, plus one for every ISP out there... I think that's the real hangup.

  9. :( My local accounts are The_Pale_Elf, (me), Esper_Darkwater (my gf), and occasionally Raskal_Bank, (guild storage character). These will all be playing from the same IP most of the time, (except when I'm on at work).

 Question - Is it illegal for me to transfer things from my char to the guild storage, if I do it by bag trade? And, now that I'm making this declaration, is it okay for me to give items to my gf, who is very newb and needs things like armor?

  10. Reasons

    1) team play (We all need to work togather this way)

Get out meet friends, join a guild, work togather, Have fun!

Thats all I have to say.

 Actually, I joined a guild, and got warned for this rule in particular because of using the guild storage method, (a char used only for guild storage). So, really, the non-cheating vote is against guilds as well.

  11. Hello all. I'd like to set up a market bot, but I'm new to the entire concept on this system. I've done the donate USD part, now I just need some tips on where to even begin setting up a bot... I was told to try finding info in the programming forum. Could someone give me a link to some tutorials, or maybe info where I should go to get started creating my bot? Thanx in advance.

  12. It's very simple to have two clients running on the same machine connected such that it looks like they are from two different IPs. You only have to have technical abilities to do it and 10 seconds to start up a tunnel.

And a HOST with a different IP that you have full admin rights over. I am sure all the cheaters have that.

:D Seems they're talking about IP spoofing, which I know little about.. But...

 Actually, Entropy, I believe I could do it... Drop two $12 NIC's in your computer, hook em both up to the DSL/cable modem, and set the computer to use both connections. Specify that one instance of the client software use NIC 1, and the other use NIC 2. Now that high speed with multiple dynamic IPs is as common as CD drives, (well, it's common in most areas, anyway), it's not a difficult setup, I would think...

  13. -_- I say allow it. People can call it cheating, but if everyone is allowed to do it, then it's fair game, is it not? That part doesn't matter.

 The important thing is to not overwork the admins/mods by giving them stupid busywork. I see admittance that you can't catch everyone, so why go through all the trouble of only being partially effective, when they could be doing something more worthy of their time?
