I love those messages too for the reason they are not p.c. I think, because el is an adult rated game, the people playing should be able to separate between the meaning and the wording of those messages and try to see the humor that may have caused someone to code those messages the way they are. Imho, alchemy is currently the only affoardable non-fighting profession. Both manu and crafting already drop a big amount of money from you, even if you make the alchemy items yourself. If you add the costs for alchemy items to this, would make those two professions not worth of being done. If a crafter would have to buy silber and gold bars, fire and water essences they won't earn any money for selling their rings and medallions. The same holds true for manufacturers and their items. Take for example the Ring of Valley of the Dwarves: * 2 silver bars (~40gc ea): 80gc * 4 fire essences (~4gc ea): 16gc * 2 water essence (~4gc ea): 8gc * 3 gem sander (10gc ea): 30gc I think the prizes are quite reasonable. With this assumptions it would cost 134gc to make this ring, assuming you do not fail with making the silver ring, polishing the diamond and crafting the final VotD ring. But currently most people want to pay 100gc max for a votd ring, the tendency is even more to 50-80gc.

I don't have such large problems. The resyncs and grues have both increased a little bit, but not that dramatic like with you all. I got disconnected once in several days usually, and this mostly because my daily cron jobs are starting, using up quite some system resources But I also noticed more grues displayed around me, while playing.

Instead of ranting it would actually be more helpful, if you just would search the forums and contact one the devs if you want to help with this. You haven't?

You can look up with your package manager whether there any nvidia packages installed. rpm -qa *nvidia* should show you any packages that contain the word nvdia. You will need nvidia kernel driver, as well as nvidia glx driver (for X) installed. You can try (as root) /bin/lsmod | grep nvidia to see if there currently is any nvidia driver loaded by the kernel, and you can try (as normal user) grep nvidia /etc/X11/xorg.conf to check whether the glx drivers for X get loaded (replace xorg.conf in the previous example with XF86Config if you still use XFree server instead of X.org server). Then you should maybe use another wording next time. I think shasso has the best fighting skills of those above. Why? Cause it's the only real fighter there, all others are allrounders. And like Lachesis already stated, windows 95 is not an os to use for a proxy or a firewall at all. Have you searched the knowledge base of microsoft? Most databases (even more a HUGE database) consumes LOTS of memory and cpu resources, and a proxy is also an application that consumes quite some decent cpu resources. Do you serously think an OS that can't handle more than 2GB of memory will be able to seriously handle such a setup? Sorry, but it seems to me more and more like you are trying to troll here.

Main focus should go for crafting, because when this happens, it was relatively new and not too much people were doing crafting, but many were doing manu. I looked at the coinces I had (my pre-selection): a male dwarf, mighty, well-known to any weapon and armor smithery that tries to become a crafter too, or a female elven, that is mostly known for her ability to craft fine jewelry but will also do some hard mining and manufacturing. As I didn't figure out a way for the dwarf to get rid of those blinking eyes, whenever he sees any kind of jewelry, I decided to play the female char I feared the dwarf will start eating up all those fine crafted items in the end :lol: Such decisions are very common for me, when it comes to gender selection in an rpg setting. It is most likely that I spent several days on the pro and cons until I finally decide what to play. I think, if people are asking such questions, they are not aware of all the roles, people play in their everydays life continually. Anybody is playing such roles, some more, some less, some without even knowing it, some do it in a deeply designed way. I try to not play roles, in my daily life, as far as possible, but rather restrict this to games or other places, where it is not potentially harmful. </edit>

Well I didn't mention to not try linux and use it for learning I just stated that there are better ways and it may actually be easier if you first can play around and learn some basics from a live cd instead of immediately diving in installing an operating system. Much more as you don't know much about os installation as you said.

I make constantly FEs, not in huge bulks, but constantly, and I have artificer perk and from my point of view I get LOTS of efes. Too much for a probability of 1/5000, also I don't made the amount yet, to really analyze the probability. EFEs (and other enriched essies) are there to increase the price of high level items, so if there will be more EFE's available, the prices of such high level items will again drop. It would've been easier then, to simply strip the efes off of the game and return to how it was before they were introduced. Imho this idea foils the introduction of enriched items completely.

I think this would kill socializing aspects of the game, as you no longer can see who's around you. If you don't see what's around but rather concentrate on working, it's imho a bad idea to sit in front of a storage to do this, because there will always a frequent coming and going of players. Think about the other side, you come walking to raven to do some storage related actions, seeing 30-50 ppl sitting there and knowing nobody of them will recognice you. I think this can destroy a big part of the community.

I haven't read the whole thread yet. I say yes, do this. Adding to Elise I would not only increase the amount for veins deeper in the cave, but increase it in general. We need to limit the resources in some way, but the limits suggested (50-500) is imho much too less. I think of this as of having mostly large veins, with several 10k or even 100k or even more of ore, that get empty more slowly (I think of a few in-game days) but also the respawning will take a little longer (~1 day up to a few days). I don't like the idea of having small spawns, where a player needs to switch the spot several times in one run.

Does your firewall let you connect to port 2000 somewhere? If you say, that only your win95 machine can't go through the proxy, then maybe win95 isn't able to be used in such a setup. Please remeber that it is close to 10 years old, and that at this time, TCP was still quite new to microsoft. They much better supported netbios than any other network protocol back in 1995. These are only assumptions, because I never used any win9x.

I grepped the sources for fopen, and there are more calls to it where the returned pointer is not checked against NULL. I think we could use your approach, and extend it to other uses of fopen as well. May I ask what the initial permissions on the files in your ~/.elc were?

I simply don't make such boring things like 10k FE's at once. I make several hundreds, up to 1k max (very rarely) at once, as they are needed. It's much less boring And I need about 2k FE at least, each playing day.

It's the same here, and it is quite nerving to me. I always tell them that it's a role play game, so when they see a woman, it IS a woman, no matter what the characters player is in RL, the same holds true if they see a male character. But I never got asked this question while playing a male character, only when playing female characters. I'm guessing those people as quite insensitive, also not necessarily a teen. And I'm also not sure whether this phenomenon is restricted to males

For this reason, there should be no such cape, I believe. It will drag people to try to make those valuable items, that are no alchemizers at all, thus flooding the market with enhanced essies.
