  1. Alchemists on Strike!

If the roleplaying point is important to this strike, why do you want better working conditions? Alchemists don't have bad working conditions. Buy the resources from harvesters, it's their job to sit in the caves and mine all the items. Alchs only need to mix them. This doesn't fit together imho. You want items to be sold for higher prizes, even if you are self-sufficient and don't want to buy the resources from harvesters (which would also add a role-play element).
  2. Cleaning up the code

Cicero thanks for this info. Will try to get rid of it then So that's what I suggest: Anybody who's involved in programming, please comment the #include "SDL_opengl.h" statement at top of the files frustum.c and particles.c, try to recompile and play for some days. If there are no problems with this on either platform after one or two weeks, we can remove those include statements and commit the changes and also remove the SDL_opengl.h file from the clients repository. It can be recovered at any time later, if this will be necessary (the file is still under cvs control). One other point I found with code cleanup topic. Currently there's a wild mix of how macros are written (both constant as well as function macros). Some are complete in upper, some in lower case. Maybe there are even mixed case macros, I'm not sure atm. Imo we should use one style only, both for ease of readability, and for maintenance reasons. I do not care what style we would use. I am used to the all upper case style and if nothing speaks against it, I will change all macros to upper case letters. Any comments?
  3. Linux poll

I find it generally much more easier to install linux then to install windows. But windows comes pre-installed most of the time. Also the installation is completely graphical. You don't need to know any single command. Additionally you install linux once and run it for years, while you need to install windows at least once a year (at least if you seriously take care about of your computer) to ged rid of all the garbage that windows accumulated and savely stored in registry during the last 12 months . This is even true for windows server versions, that don't get installed and uninstalled hundreds of proggies over the time.
  4. Linux poll

I came to linux back in 1993 because the TeX distribution I used there was in need to create fonts with more than 8 chars in their filename, which was not possible then with windows (3.11) That's where I kept, with the exception of the time from 2000 to 2003 where I was in need to use a dual boot system together with w2k/winxp. Whether you use linux or window is to some extent a matter of taste, but it depends much more on what you expect from an OS and what you want to do with it. Some thoughts I have on this topic (just my personal opinions, and don't take them too serious ): * If you want to invest into the future then use linux * If you want maximum control of your OS and your computer hardware and don't avoid to take quite some time into learning and accepting a steep learning curve, then use linux. * If you just don't care much what happens with your computer, and don't want to invest the time and work to figure it out use windows. * If you are lazy and used to windows for so much years, stick with it and don't waste your time learning a whole new OS Btw. I voted for the third point.
  5. trading

It's not about math, it's about that I may have more things in my inventory and don't actually know how much there's free. So I first have to open up my inventory window, which is not possible if the trade is already running. And btw. i am a mathematician
  6. #Message from mod

she said the exact same thing as me but she expressed herself better than you
  7. trading

That's I good idea, I suddenly thought there should be emu shown in trade window during todays play and now I see a suggestion for this Very nice. Alternatively we could enable the possibility to open inventory window and trade window at once, but then must ensure that there's no drag'n'drop possible between them.
  8. pick points

Just think twice before you choose which pickpoint to use I think the disadvantages already listed in this thread overweigh the possible advantages by far.
  9. Alchemists treated poorly?

higher prizes for higher essences is of course a must
  10. #Message from mod

Lyn that sounds actually more right to me than what henry said. And in fact this would be imho be a good solution. It would help the mods to get rid of mass-pms while they do contests and there would be no need to post such additional #bc's. We have to ensure this would be optional, so a mod can choose whether it should say 'Message from Mod' or 'Message from <Mod-Name>', or else it would be imo completely impossible to do contests where a player has to pm some mod.
  11. #Message from mod

Well it may be annoying but that's in fact a #bc. So what I said above about the ignore of #bc applies. If you just filter the mods name out such a message, it would just read the same, but without the name explicitly written, so it would have no advantage at all. You would still get annoyed because of such #bc's.
  12. A Question for Roja

You still didn't answer henrys question. I'm too very interested in how you are able to get this info.
  13. Game Screen

IF they are on the same line then it's most likely the problem. Each option in el.ini need to start on a separate line, and to be active need to start with a '#' sign. So just put a return after the #video_mode = 1 setting and it should work, both with ELConfig, as well as with the EL client.
  14. #Message from mod

I'm not sure whether I understand you. If you just want to ignore some particular mod, you can use the usual #ignore as well and don't need an extra command for this. This should work in my opinion. If it doesn't work, I suppose there are serious reasons for it to not work at all. If you want to filter #bc messages, that will imho never be implemented, cause #bc's are meant to be seen by anybody, no matter what else they ignore. They're also used for important system messages. So if it's possible to ignore them, people would not notice when the server's going to restart, wondering why they suddenly got disconnected. Not a good idea imho. If you meant something completely different, are you then be able to provide a more concrete description of what you meant?
  15. Cleaning up the code

Well the only includes of this file are in frustum.c and in particles.c and it doesn't hurt to comment them both. The client will compile without any warning, even if this file is not included explicitly. This is true at least on my linux system. So maybe we can comment out the include statements, and leave the file for a bit longer in the repository, just to be sure. Of course, someone should test this on a windows system to check whether this will work there or not. So I will compile a list of changes for the variables and functions and post it in the next few days.
  16. Normalizing the root window

As it looks to me it is necessary to do the step wytter said. I noticed yesterday, that key don't work accurately on depending where the cursor is. For example, if I had my cursor on the frame border (where the hud, icons and the like are) and I press either of TAB or F1 the interface didn't switch, but nothing occurs. I first had to move the cursor into the game window. The same is true, if the cursor is inside some other window (manu, spell, inventory, no matter which one), the keys don't work as expected all the time.
  17. Let's Use Doxygen

Lol Grum , you were lucky they contain only very few declarations
  18. make your own hero character!

That's me Nice tool, btw, thx Roja
  19. Please bring back the #sto command :(

I didn't know there was the possibility to use a short cut for the #storage command. Maybe your client was patched and you didn't use the standards one? Maybe I didn't realized the possibility to use #sto And come on, don't be so lazy It's just 4 more letters
  20. Moving and producting stuff

I know that this worked with the old client. Since the client update I only tried it a few times, and it stopped in all cases immediately no matter what I was making, even mixing a fe stopped. So I would say this looks like a bug. <edit>To clarify this: I meant it may be a bug that a player is able to mix items while walking, like headhunter told, as I am no longer be able to do this, not even with the most easy items. It might succeed in very rare cases, but in general it always fails while walking. There was something changed with the last client update in this point, it seems. So if it were possible before the update but not after the update to mix while walking, then it's imho a bug if a player is possible to do so.</edit>
  21. Normalizing the root window

I had this error yesterday too. It occurred while switching either from windows to fullscreen, or by changing resolution, I can't say for sure. (I generally start the client in 1024x768 and then switch first to fullscreen, and later then to resolution 1152x864). And I can approve this only happens to window icons. For me it looked quite different though than for ck. If it shall happen again, I will try to make a screenie too.
  22. Let's Use Doxygen

Small update: Some missing data types and variables have been documented and committed. Now all functions, macros and data types should have been documented. Some variables are still not documented yet. If you find any error feel free to contact me via this forum, or via PM (forum or ingame).
  23. Interface icon problem

Your additions look quite good imho james. I think the encyc window is already quite full, so why not move some parts of the help to a separate tab? It's still in the same window. And it should not be that hard to use the guides you made so far as the help file. If you look at the one grum provided, you see that it's actually virtually empty
  24. Running el.x86.linux.bin

Two indicators that he's running as root. First the root in front of the machine name, second the use of # letter at the end of the command prompt. Normal users generally have a $, although this is configurable (as well for root, of course). The use of # and $ resp. is commonly used as a default on many linux distributions.
  25. 'Noob'

 you declared a term using itself in the description. Originally not necessarily an insult it's mostly used in such a way today, as I have experienced. Don't know why. See http://en.wikipedia.org/Newbie for the differences.
