  1. Godless, great deal or horrible mistake?

I personally don't take too much care of the worthiness of a particular perk. It's just a matter of taste, and on how I want to develop my char, to become an individual. From this point, together with a good background story of your character, this perk can be of great benefit, also I don't have it. (See for example the Omnimodus Ecclesia guild) But yes, the extra experience gained from the gods, will become much more valuable in later levels. And as Pale already mentioned, the rationality cross attribute does the same, not in such a high manner like the gods quests, but it does it for any skill beside fighting AFAIR. If you are going to become a non-fighting char, it's imho definitely worth to take a closer look at the relation of rationality and experience gained.
  2. mm perkers

If we remove the MM perk, then the cloaks have to go, imho. They would be useless and meaningless, because they grant the MM perk, which would no longer be available I am quite sure, that nothing, absolutely nothing would change, if we keep the capes. Aisllinn, can you point out some reason's why you think the cape should stay?
  3. EASY TO LEARN AND USE

In general you can't easily move a programs directory around You will need to uninstall it and install anew.
  4. EASY TO LEARN AND USE

You have installed dev-cpp within the windows directory You should NEVER install anything in the windows directories. They are system directories and should not be touched by regular users. I bet, you will run into all sorts of problem with this sooner or later.
  5. Missing books

    Yes it seems so.
  6. Missing books

Yes James, there are actually two, and the one inside languages/en is the correct one. The other one is deprecated and no longer used.
  7. Signature length

Soldus, imho there aren't actually that much signatures, that belong to EL, including mine and yours. So I don't understand your post Read rules 11 and 12 of the forum rules. I don't understand what rule 12 has to do with this. It's about posting in forums, not about signatures. And I didn't flamed Soldus, I asked him to explain what's wrong. So my question, why rule 12? And rule 11 only says something about the length of signatures and about the content (no profanity and/or obscene language). It doesn't say anything about they need to belong to EL or to this forum. One question: Why don't we completely deny signatures, if they are a problem? The avatars have been disabled too. <edit>ok after reading Soldus' last post, I understand </edit>
  8. Missing books

Where does your knowledge.lst file reside? Within the EL directory (i.e. c:\program files\eternal lands on windows or /wherever/you/installed/it on unix) or within the languages/en subdirectory of said directory? Or do you have this file in both locations? If the latter is true, check the one in the languages/en subdir, because this is the one that is used after the last client update. Remove the one in the EL directory if you have the other. If you don't have the second file, redownload the game, it actually comes with both versions, and the first one can safely be deleted.
  9. Essence Spawns

Why not simply buy them off of alchemists, if you can't make them yourself. This would help the economy much more, than even trying to corrupt it more then it already is.
  10. Missing books

The latter issue is know, for the other books, I don't know, because I haven't read any of these. But they ARE in the knowledge.lst file. If they don't occur in the knowledge window, then there may indeed be a bug with this. I'll take a look into it.
  11. Signature length

Soldus, imho there aren't actually that much signatures, that belong to EL, including mine and yours. So I don't understand your post
  12. Encyclopedia Work

Huh, this patch seems not to work. When I click the view patch link, it wants to download the download.php script instead of viewing the patch As this doesn't happen to other patches on berlios, I assume there's something wrong with your patch. Maybe because you submitted a binary file (.rar), while source patches are always assumed to be text-only? Can you (or someelse) check this?
  13. mm perkers

Imo, if the MM perk gets removed the same must be true for the cape. We could reuse the green cape for something different, as most people like the green colour very much. But if we remove the perk and leave the cape, we don't solve anything, even if they capes break, as there are so much capes already in the game, that virtually any character can have its own. And they aren't really rare. As long as something get's dropped by monsters it will never be really rare, as there will be a possibly infinite supply of items in the long time. Just fight enough monsters and you will ever succeed in getting one ore more capes. So, if we remove the perk, but not the cape, this will be another big advantage for fighters and another big disadvantage for non-fighters. The fighters can easily slay thousands of monsters (and they will of course, that's why they play this game) until they finally get the cape, while the non-fighters will be enforced to pay the prices for those capes, the fighters decide. One of my chars (Celine) has the MM perk and I greatly enjoy having it. Loosing it without an adequate alternative would greatly harm me. Emeralds would be easy even without the perk. It's a bit of a challenge to avoid the few gobs, skellies and orcs on the way to the (safe) harvest spot, but it's not impossible. But rubies and diamonds would be impossible without someones else helping. A temporary alternative, like it was suggested by some people, would be just fine for this from my point of view. For fighters, I personally do not see the point where it is even useful. Therefore Malaclypse doesn't have the perk and also doesn't use the cape. Imho, if a fighter is not able to find a way to handle or avoid particular monsters, then s/he has chosen the wrong trade. <OT> I don't see that the community was better 'back in the old days'. When I started playing, a little more than a year ago, the community imho sucked. It consists of a bunch of players that band together, and were not willing to help any newbies. Only two people, I met, were open minded in this time. One guy, Mandos, helped me a lot back in those days, but the rest of his guild, rather they proclaimed to be newbie friendly and newbie helping, had a very bad, ignorant and arrogant attitude, at least the way I experienced it. The other person was Platyna... Second, I didn't feel of having earned something great, when I finally reached level 30 in combat skill (no I didn't like to do potion like anybody else) and was able to wear the cloak (Was there even a cloak for combat skill? I can't fully remember). The way there consists only of a bit of imho boring power leveling, and my feeling had more of a finally reached this stupid target, that anybody says is so important, than being proud of it. So from my point of the view, the old days weren't even better. It was imho much harder to get friends, as most of the people were so deep within their guild matters, that they even won't bother with the issues of any newbie and didn't want to meet any new people. This was even true for guilds, that had the newbie friendly and helping sign on their flags. </OT>
  14. Cleaning up the code

I commited the changes, noted in my threads above (the first one on this page, and the last one from me)
  15. crafting

Derin's idea is good for working together, while your initial idea shenriss is more to support a manu/crafter combination char, imo (a player would need both skills at decent levels). I like Derin's alteration of the idea more.
  16. Encyclopedia Work

Atm you don't need to worry about this, imo.
  17. Cleaning up the code

The (UN)LOCK_PARTICLES_LIST() macros from particles.[hc] need to be kept in the header file for the map editor to compile. That's the only change necessary to the above.
  18. Cleaning up the code

I added the changes related to the renaming of macros to all upper case to the map editor as well. It compiles and runs on linux, also i cannot tell if anything's working properly, as i'm not used with the map editor, also this shouldn't break anything. Please someone try to compile and run on windows as well.
  19. Cleaning up the code

Ah yes, you're right Ent, I forgot about this. How about the gtk-elconfig module? This also shares some common header files with the client. I will check it too.
  20. C or C++ HELP!

The GNU Compiler Collection (gcc: http://www.gnu.org/software/gcc) is one of the most commonly used free compilers. It has frontends for several different languages (C/C++, Fortran, Java and optionally others) and backends for nearly any hardware platform currently available.
  21. Duel feature implementation

In-game commands can also have parameters, like for example the %limit_fps 50 command. So we could use #duel = 0/1 in el.ini and %duel 0/1 in-game
  22. Duel feature implementation

Ok, then this would be very nice. Instead of using two different options in el.ini (#duel_on and #duel_off) I would rather suggest the way immerenties said, that is we would use one option #duel and give it a value of 0 or 1 depending on whether a player wants it or not: #duel = 0 and #duel =1 resp.
  23. MUSIC

If you think of 300 people getting live sound streams, this would increase bandwidth by several 1000% I guess. So this is imho no option.
  24. Duel feature implementation

Does this mean, whenever I put #duels_on into my el.ini and somebody clicks on me for duelling, that I automatically accept and start fighting? Imho that's no god idea. There should always both parties need to agree to the duel. Maybe we can add a third option #duel_ask where you always get asked whether you want to participate in duel or not.
  25. Encyclopedia Work

I talked with Wytter about this topic and we agreed that there's some work to be done in this field. But other points are more important atm, that need to be done first. Imho we can come back to this topic, after we have solved most of the issues on the TODO's that are available. I am able to provide some DTD or XSD files for all the different xml files we use by now. I can also provide a unified framework for xml file handling (currently we have several different techniques/functions used to read and handle all the different xml files, and each one is distinct from the other). I think we need one interface that should be used by either of encyclopedia/help system, config files and actors_defs to read and possibly write the xml data to and from files.
