    Thats because it's not a cheat, just a minor bug that hasn't been worth the effort to fix because it would require client, server, and protocol changes to do it properly and it's a very low priority. Just wanted to add that this client bug is still there. Client 1.7.0 Beta on Liinux Happened twice to me when I got simultanous healing from a mol and a healing potion. Health bar jumps to > 65k material points. Health bar is reset when you change map.

    Hi all, sorry to have left the discussion for quite a while. Here are some remarks from me to different points presented: - several people mentioned experience as a goal to make more advanced things. I usually don't like that argument from my background with pen&paper role-playing. There I (and most people I play with) normally disapprove of actions/spells/etc done only for the sake of getting experience points. It nearly always looks like bad role-playing to me. - getting rich or why do I want to make money? It is not that I want to get rich. But very often in the game you need "stuff" (as someone said). A sword broken, two new sigils, some potions, essences I can't make myself, books, ... So I just need some gc to carry on adventuring. I just like to minimize the time spent harvesting/mixing/haggling. - answer to Tico - don't start summoning - I always like alchemist/magic/thief roles in role-playing so I started using magic in EL even if it is very unbalanced, yet. It is a loooooooooooong time using magic until you can attack something using magic alone. So I am, like you, always broke :-) Some hints don't apply to my character: He is just level 35 at the moment, trying to specialize in alchemy/potion/magic. Otherwise the posts seem to indicate that in general raw materials have the best prices. With the possible exception of fire essences and perhaps steel (or hydro) bars. All that if you neglect experience, of course! Thanks for your opinions/hints. Matthias alias Tsungafir.

    Hi all, I fiddled quite a bit with alchemy and a bit with potions and manufacture. Can't say anything to crafting. In my experience it is best to stick with making the simple things (i.e. fire ess, pot of reasoning or similar, fur gloves, hat and fox scarf) to make money simple and fast. The more advanced essences/potions/clothes all are much more complicated (more ingredients, more complicated ing., much much more food cost) to build and you gain not that much more. two examples: fire ess: two simple flowers to pick, sulfur to mine, 1 food suffices for 25 ess. gain per ess ~3.25gc matter ess: 3 quartzes to mine, iron ore to mine which is quite heavy to transport, 1 food suffices for 5 ess, gain per ess ~6.5gc fur gloves, fox scarf: one animal to hunt (3 rabbits or 1fox), thread costs 4 or 2, gain 7.5 or 10 or if you subtract thread cost gain is 3.5 or 8gc fur cloak: two animals to hunt (3 wolves, 2 foxes), thread cost 10, gain 20, higher food cost with subtracted thread cost: gain 10 if you throw the wolves away and just do 2 fox scarfs you gain 16.     Yes, it was the "done"-Button. When I first used it I missed the message "this name already in use". And afterwards I thought it was me who created the character. So I changed the name and I am in the game :-) The Linux problem is not solved. I still cannot play as normal user. My normal user can use browsers, ftp, host, wget and all these tools, but not EL.     Haven't seen your post yesterday. I was off-line shortly after my last post. ?????????????????????????????? No, I have seen neither Wraith nor Tutorial NPC. How do I confirm character creation? I have seen the name/passwd dialog and the customization dialog -> no confirm button or anything. Otherwise there's the help and the options: I guess there's no button hidden there. Or is it the 'Done' button in the name/passwd dialog? I used the 'Done' button, but I don't remember exactly what happened. I'll retry.

    Btw. the created character (named Matto) is not listed online. Where is he? Can you see anything at the server? I found three more keys working: C-e opens encyclopedia C-o opens options C-h opens help None of the alt combinations from the help working. Client still up and running. Play rests limited: zoom,rotate view, rotate char, read help - that's about all.

    No. client is up and running for an hour or so. I sometimes return to it, to try other keys, read the help and try the options. As I said zoom/rotate and graphics display without problem. What relation is there between graphics driver and typing letters?     Hello Piper! I had no time to search for the cause of the dns problem. Program still fails to find the dns server when started as normal user. Today I tried how it works, when I use root to connect to the game. But it does not work a lot better. I can connect and create a character (it is a bit difficult though) The advertised (help text in bottom center) zoom and rotation controls work. No problems with the graphics (I can change viewport size). I can customize the character (the location changes when changing race - I guess that's ok). I can access the options. The insert/delete keys do a in-place walking rotate of the character. F5 opens help with the in-game rules. There are four icons in the lower left: choose name, customize char, help, options There are two symbols in the lower right: clock (?) and compass (which turns when I rotate the view). And once I hit a key which quit the game (when trying every key in fast and furious mode). That's about everything that works. I found a description of the same problem at http://www.el-cel.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=911 He did not mention the problem normal user/root, though. File a bug?     Your normal user is in which groups? I have: uucp, dialout, audio, video, games and local (custom group for /usr/local)

    I tried port 2001 -- no success. I added 62.93.225.47 game.eternal-lands.com to /etc/hosts still no success.
