  1. A Giant Story

    NICE!
  2. A quick short story

The stench of decay rode upon the winds blowing in off the Ghealan Ocean. Rumors of missing maidens and younglings disappearing into the darkness of night continually trickled in from the villages which lay along the shores. The elders of the villages assembled and began to devise plans for defense, but frustration was high, as no one really understood how to defend against an enemy which none of them had ever seen. There seemed to be little hope, and what hope there was, was but a dim flicker. For months a new rumor has been spreading throughout the small outlying settlements of a lone warrior coming out of the darkness and delivering helpless younglings from the clutches of the vicious beasts and then disappearing just as quickly into the mists once the battle was over. At first he was thought to be the creation of an over-active youngling’s imagination, seeking attention, but the claw marks on their arms and back were hard to explain away. At first the parents pondered the stories in silence, and then slowly the stories began to surface after quiet whispers of similar events reached their ears. It was not long before the entire country side was filled with whispers of the mysterious stranger who had no name, and yet seemed to have no fear. The Elders sat around the fire in silent meditation, their eyes slowly slipping from one face to another. None daring to mention such a ludicrous option as seeking out this legendary warrior of the shadows, yet he was very much active in every mind. Dogrus was first to break the silence. “I can stand no more of this silence! I may have but 17 men who are able to fight, but fight we will. And fight alone if need be.” A pillar of a man placed his hand on the young dwarf’s shoulder. “Aye Dogrus; I understand how you feel, and I and my fifty warriors are with you, but as the aged council has wisely spoken, how shall we defend against that we know not. It is not cowardice which holds our swords in their scabbards my friend.” “Yet shall we sit and do nothing Scriebus? Your village has lost but one maiden and we have lost twenty! How shall I return to my people and tell my wife that we shall do nothing but wait? What shall I say when she begins to weep for her daughter who is missing now these three weeks? How shall I console her aching soul?” “We all have lost someone to this evil”, a weak shaky voice breaks in. Does racing blindly into darkness with only a sword and shield against that which has no flesh only to join them on the other side bring them back?” They both turn to look at the Grand Councilor. Dogrus’ shoulders slump as his face falls. “I know what you speak is truth, but what choice do I have, do WE have? Abandon our lands? Flee like younglings? Where shall we go, and what shall we do? There is no honor in the death of a coward, and that IS what they will call us.” From the darkness a voice could be heard. “You shall not have to flee.” Like a flash, weapons were drawn, and warriors took positions for battle, their eyes blinded to the darkness before them, after having faced the fire’s dancing flames. Their fists clenched hilts and shields, their ears straining at every sound. Slowly the lines and details of their surroundings began to manifest to them, yet they saw no source for the voice. “Put your weapons away. If I wanted to harm you, you would already be dead.” The voice came again. They scanned the shadows, but again, saw no one. “Then show yourself stranger!” Dogrus growled in demand. “I already have.” Came the reply from behind them. They all spun around as if scalded. Standing behind the Grand Councilor was a medium sized figure, dressed in a hooded cloak. His hands were simply folded in front of him, and he stood without any apparent concern of being attacked. His crystal blue eyes seemed to glow in the light from the flames, yet he made no movement. They stood in blank wonder struggling to understand what had just happened. “Again, please put away your weapons, I did not come here to fight with you.” “Who are you? Where are you from, and why are you here then?” Simeed the dwarf replied lowering her axe ever so slowly. My name is Selyob Nhoj. Where I am from is not important… it is what I know that is important. You have an enemy, and I know its weaknesses. For the last few months you have heard of me, spoken of me, yet until now, you have not met me. It is I who have been rescuing your younglings and maidens. I can lead you to victory, or I can simply leave. It is your choice.

I, Selyob, have read, understand, and agree to follow the above terms of the Eternal Lands Story and Quest Writers Agreement.
  4. I did a search and did not see this, but surely SOMEONE has come up with it before now.... Here is the problem feast pots give 50 points, yet you can use only 45 points if full.... seems like a terrible waste of 5 points since you have to use a pot at 0.... Solution is to allow for a max of 50 points instead of 45.... does not change anything except the waste of good feast pots! 8)
  5. Yes, let's try to remember that not EVERYONE who plays is an adult with full intellectual development, which is not to be twisted as a slam against JoshBoy because I do not know whether he is 10 or 80 yrs old, the point is that we can and should all be respectful of the others here. Remember.... YOU were not always the brightest bulb in the box, it took someone to patiently answer YOUR stupid questions to get you to shine at full capacity. Have a good day! Sely

What has already been said is true in every way, I have reset 5 times, and can already see that I will have to continue to do so to combat the monotony that is inherant to the problems mentioned above. HOWEVER, to their credit, the creators, DID make an attempt to break the monotony, and fix certain things, which we should give them credit for, and it IS good to have a chalenge that is WAY over our heads for all the quest hunters out there, for legends and lore and role playing... not to mention to give u something to strive for... with a determination, or a literal vengence as the case may be. I for one would like to see more random and unannounced invasions. But this is a different subject completely............. 8) I agree that in a group attack, the program which points the att at the lowest player rather than a random target selection is less than optimum and too calculated for a "realistic" situation.... again one more thing that is too monotonously predictable.... and therefore borders on stupid like "pong". As for the pps.... I think the entire system ought to be revamped as follows: PP should be eleminated or drastically reduced to for example 10 total pp per character, to be placed where ever the player wished to lean more to a specific trade than another for example magic for a mage and artificial for a manufacturer.... basically for increasing a characters propensity for xp in a given area so that a higher magic nexus increases the skill lvl of a player in areas like enchanting and spell casting, while the same character with a low magic and high manufacter nexus would have limited success in magical areas mentioned already, based upon original pp placement... likewise the mage would have less skill in manu areas because his/her specialization would not be in that area. Maybe the pp could be earned over time as currently, but limited in number to around 20. Overall I think the concept of pp and nexuses controled by pp rather than xp lvls is a bad idea in its entirely for the following reasons: All of the areas currently manipulated by pps ought to be determined by xp ratios based upon players habits, not placement of pp... ie. spend more time making pots, get more proficient at pots specifically and automatically... pp r not needed to limit production if u lack xp... we already have calculations which limit production in every catagory based upon xp... pp for nexus or any other reason for that matter r therefore totally unnecisary. IF u must keep nexuses then....... Character attributes ought to be directly connected to xp lvls, not totally subject to the whims of the players. PPs should be as they are, player defined for nexus and other areas and resetable as currently, but the attributes themselves ought to be solely based upon xp, and non-resettable. A reset ought not wipe out the attributes which should be based upon xp, but should wipe the nexus or job specification of the character only.... though imho a reset should completely reset a character to NEW and wipe all xp lvls. It makes no sense to me that I can reset at a/d in the high 40's, based upon xp and all of a sudden the monsters I owned, now own me as if I were a noob in spite of my higher xp lvls.... xp is xp... or it should be. I know this is a paradigm shift of sorts, but it would be way more realistic... imho. As for the spawns.... imho it is less than logical to limit the number of spawns or even the regen time... I am here to play a game, not get sucked into an alternate universe. This game requires too much wasted time waiting to play the game, and not enough game to fill the time. O well that is my 2 cents worth... if it's worth two cents. Selyob
  7. Trade bot owners : Lets work together to rescue the market.

One other issue about the gods and their quests.... I went to a god and joined, and the first quest for 20 shields was ok.... Then I got the 2nd request... 2400 BR Pots.... I quit and went godless perk. That big a jump was insane, because there is not enough of a benefit to serving the gods as there should be... All those high lvl magic weapons and such should ONLY be available from the gods. They would then become rewards for equally high level quests and then, yes, it makes sense to serve the gods and GIVE away all those BR pots etc that they demand in service. Otherwise they are a joke, or at least to me they make no sense. My 2 cents, for what its worth. Sely I agree, but they DO stop the fighting for a while... this means that in the case of supply and demand, if u cut the supply, which these ideas WOULD do, while continuing demand, then current supplies would run low, and value would run high, and price would soar. So in your example of fighting, u may b right, but in the market issue, you r wrong... Did I mention I have a business degree, and own 2 succseful businesses? I know what I am talking about.... I have to or I would starv in RL. To the Mods, I suggest testing my theories.... cut supplies of a basic kind for a week.... see what happens to that item which relies upon it... for example, kill off all the chrysanthemums for a week, and watch the HE prices. I say it will take nearly a week because I personally know a guy with more than 7k HES in storage now, and he is not the only one I know with stock piles of that lvl or higher.... it WILL take that long to burn up current supplies.... But watch what happens when they run out. Sely
  8. Trade bot owners : Lets work together to rescue the market.

I have been away for awhile so forgive the delay in responding. To the Mod who chimed in, I meant no disrespect. AND my choice of exagerated pricing was on purpose to make the point concept more clear, not as a valid price suggestion. I like the suggestion of insects wiping out roses, and such, but for it to be effective the "season would HAVE to last at least a week if not more to drain inventories and PUSH ppl to pay the higher prices at the shops... but excelent idea... again it follows the real issue of too much supply and too little demand. Just think of real life marketing issues such as what drives gasoline prices up, and what brings them down and you have the answer to the entire subject. supply and demand baby! 8-) Bye the way, the new days are another way to work this issue, though less realistic than the "insect" idea, and personally I vote for the insect idea. On second thought what about closing all mines for a period of time, or making poison gas damage like heat damage for ALL mining caves for 2 weeks, or some such issue? that would also help... or maybe a cave invasion where for 2 weeks high lvl monsters invade all the caves and mm perks r irrelevant??? that could REALLY drop the glut of supplies, and jack the prices. I know, I know.... I am biting my tongue already! 8-) Later all have fun, see ya in the lands Sely

  11. Trade bot owners : Lets work together to rescue the market.

Sounds great.... but..... ummmm..... where did the bots get their gc??? I don't own one so I don't know, but I am assuming that the owner has to put the gc in for the players to trade for items... thus bankrupting bot owners over time.... The point is not that a ros stone is impervious to price fluctuations, but that RARE items maintain cost in direct proprtion to their continued rarity, and lose cost value as rarity decreases. The only answer is the restricting of the flood of items into the marketplace, by decreasing production, or increasing consumption... all behind the scenes, and all done by the creators, thereby increasing the rarity of items and the need simultaneously, or decreasing the supply and while increasing demand..... price increases WILL follow........change the availability of harvestable items and the value of the item changes directly proportionally. Change the manu success ratre and players get frustrated and quit... Mess with the prices themselves and all u accomplish is changing the volumes bought and sold and ultimately the value of the gc... Simply manipulating prices will not fix anything. This is the one point no one else has made... all the other ideas presented will not work if this one issue is not fixed... but fix this one and the rest of the ideas are irrelevant. Ulimately no matter what u do nothing will change, you will be rig back in this situation because of the following issue: u can change the prices and the volumes or availability of items, but profit margins will not change.... substantially. The problem is ppl who r willing to manu items for the sole benefit of the xp and then sell those items at or below cost siting the logic that they "bought" their xp for the "cost" or amount of "loss" involved in the deal.... for xample: FES 2gc for 1 sulfer I could harvest the flowers for free - to gain xp I then manu FE for 8xp I then sell fe for 2gc to make quick sale and save time... everyone would jump on that deal. I break even in gc... do it again, and again.... bcuz all I care about is gaining xp... I could save more time by buying flowers for .5 ea for total FE expense of 3gc and resell for same price as currently selling for and again break even, but get the xp. LES Same thing but the cost to manu is higher thus the higher market price, but higher XP... reduce the cost of items and price of finished product drops too..... they are already being sold for 5ea... that is cost, or very near it.... so again more evidence for what I claim.... Your ideas You all propose increasing the bot price on the sulfer to, lets say 5gc ea. and the flowers to 3 gc ea ( just for examples sake)... Y would I buy from your bots if I can just go harvest for myself, or continue to buy from an unlimited number of players for the same price as currently for sale for.... I wouldn't. Now lets say you PAID 5 ea for sulfer and 3 ea for flowers..... 1st off you can't for long because your bot would run out of money ASAP. and u would as well.... then u can no longer buy anything and you are back to square one... minus all your fortune.... AND market would return to currenlvls in no time at all... besides..... I personally would not do all the travelling required to get to your bot to unload ALL my stock of sulfer when I can sell it ALL to one player for a fair profit.... at storage... Now, the ONLY caviot to this, is if EVERY bot and NPC had the same hike in prices... then over time the market MIGHT turn upwards over all, but in the mean time will you survive financially, while you wait, and can u change the npc prices? Or the rest of the players???? Good ideas, but impractical to apply...... ultimately we are all just players, and your fix must come from owners/creators.... and must include market limits. Limit players freedom in the markets and players get pissed and stop playing.... they are in it for the challenge, and part of that challenge is the free market and the profitability of the market.... take that away and there goes the reason to keep playing. I personally by low and sell high on some items, and dump at the npc's often, but I have been known to pay higher than agreed just because the person was willing to "haggle" the prices... I enjoy a good haggle, where I "win" and I want to encourage that willingness among players, but I also like to profit. I personally want a bot, but there is no sense in owning a bot with the market as unstable as it is and no end in sight. As more and more noobs come in and figure out that manu is the road to Eldorado, the market will continue to flood and prices will continue to drop.... the only limit is the actual manu cost. Period. I have been on since december, and I have been bit as well... like the 5k I paid for a binding stone when the price dropped to 1k from 15k the night b4 and I did not know it... I made someone happy! Another bunch of ideas, though it requires creator involvement is the following..... Perhaps cutting the npc prices will slow the flow of gc into the pockets and restrict how much ppl can buy, while simultaneously increasing the gc in drops so that the creatures become the financial engine instead of the npc's. There needs to be a whole new level of higher end items, and other spells and ess and pots. Medallions should be available to do attribute increases, and there should be new spells and ideas. I have dozens and they would add tremendous new life to the game, such as invisibility and speed. The is no reason for the armor to stop at iron plate when we have steel and titanium metals available to us already... and the concept for all 3 being used is established in the chainmails... there are other shield styles such as the roman shield which was nearly full body size, and which if made of Titanium would be feasable. Add steel and titanium pl8 as well. offer different styles of helmates, etc. all for the sole purpose of using up more supplies and increasing demand, and ultimately prices on supplies in the market. Take the existing monsters and do with them what was done with the ants, give them different sizes and with these sizes increase the HP so that you have the same animal in say 3 diff size pictures, ea with progressively higher HP lvls. Add more spawns and you increase the speed of use of items as well, effectively reducing the available quantity inthe marketplace. Ok what does this ALL have to do with the market???? It is the balance that is required to keep stretching toward higher goals, while restricting the flood of items, thereby increasing consumption while decreasing production.... all behind the scenes and all done by the creators/ and without public knowledge..... Ultimately increasing the rarity of items and the need simultaneously, or decreasing the supply and while increasing demand..... prices WILL follow........ my 2 cents worth.
  12. Trade bot owners : Lets work together to rescue the market.

OK, I'll say it.... u r ALL wrong... here is Y. As long as there are ppl, who can trade with ppl, u cannot control the market. Plain and simple. Do what ever you want with the npc's and bots, makes no difference at all in the long run because ppl can still dump their stuff at lower prices than bots and npcs in a 1 on 1 sale... and they WILL do that undercutting. There is ONLY 1 barrier to the prices going down, and that is the cost to make an item. Currently, HE's bottom in the open market at 6.... Y? Because that is the lowest price they can b made for and sold for without going deeply into loss. The ONLY solution is to make items more rare/harder to come by, i.e. limit harvestability some how. As evidence of this claim I refer u to rost stones. Rarity vs. commonness... it is that simple. Case closed.
