  1. PK ing

The man asked a straight question, but I see a lot of mickey-taking but no straight answers! My opinion is that you need to ensure that you can cope with the meanies on the map in question, and I don't just mean some of the people who tend to camp at the entrances on such maps! If you're scared of bumping into a troll, for example, keep away from PK maps! Oh BTW, keep away from Mortos's temple as well, since, as I found out to my cost, you will invariably get TP'd to a PK map! I would also suggest building your A/D to the 50s or 60s before starting out, but then, what does a newbie like me know?
  2. I'm bored

I need something to keep my mind off the game..... So, who's everybody's favourite in-game character? And why? In my case, it's Harvy, cos he cheats you and makes you think he's doing you a favour! Erm....I thought it was keeping my mind off the game!
  3. Connection Problems

how about door hinge for orange? I think that's 2 words!
  4. Connection Problems

Not sure if someone said this or if contest is over, but surely, couple is the obvious answer.
  5. Ok, I reset my char, and I think that worked ok, as I've recovered like 60% OA in 3 days But what if I get tired of being a human? Can I change to say, a dwarf, without creating a new char? I hear you can change char names, so I guess it's programmatically the same process.
  6. Erm, went to TG storage to do some manuing, and was trying to save on feasting pots. Had loads of FE and meat, so I picked some sticks and started a fire. As soon as I cooked the meat, bang! EL client explodes in my face! Tried again... logged on, started fire, started cooking meat, and guess what? BANG again!! Anyone noticed this in TG or anywhere, or is cooking in storage just against teh rules?! I was not trying to crash teh server! Honest!
  7. Please don't ban me... was just hungry!

I tried booting into Windows 2K to see if it behaves differently. However I got this The error message was like this. I tracked down the Dr Watson error log and found this :- <Watson's log start> Microsoft ® Windows 2000 Version 5.00 DrWtsn32 Copyright © 1985-1999 Microsoft Corp. All rights reserved. My system is a home built PC with :- O/S Slackware Linux 10.2 Graphics card.: ATI Sapphire 9550 256MB RAM: 1 Gig Corsair DDR 400 CPU AMD 2600+ Mobo : Gigabyte 7N400 Pro 2. On other thing, I notice significant slowdown down to 2-3 FPS in MM in particular when it's dark. I also set an FPS limit of 35, cos anything higher than that used to hang my pc when playing under Win2K.

This armor is awesome I hope i have got the nexus to wear it, when it will be available. Prob 6 or 7 human for hot stuff like that
  10. Please don't ban me... was just hungry!

Just tried again... cooked 1 meat and ***BOOM*** I will report a bug if anyone else has had a similar exp.
  11. new armor

wtg, Roja. I'm having trouble closing my mouth now! Slight concern, exp has taught me that cool-looking kit like that costs loadsa gc's! How will they compare with existing kit in terms of cost (if NPC-sold) , weight, breakability and armor level? Also, Will they be available from NPCs or just manu only? Obviously players will sell them later....
  12. Help with connection problems.

Hi All, I need some help, please. I need to get my connection fixed as I am still on page 1008 of 6000 pages on Titanium mining! At this rate it will take at least a month to finish the book! Here's the problem: I run Slackware 10.2 (a versions of Linux) but it takes me about 10 attempts, on average, to get a connection that lasts more than 1 minute. Yesterday, I gave up and quit, especially because it was solar day, and I didn't want to get stranded outside IP. My internet connection is fine, and my ISP (bt.com) have stated on their website that they do not bloack any ports. My firewall is configured okay, and since, when I connect for more than five minutes, it generally stays on, I'm not sure where the problem is. However, I have confirmed that this does NOT happen when I have not started EL. I have the latest version/updates from the website. Has anyone had this problem please, and if so, how did they resolve it? EaglePrince
  13. Help with connection problems.

if it's a router (and not set up as a bridge) then it should be impossible for the computer to take down the router, though it's possible it chokes on large packets or some such nonsence... checking out the computer still seems more likely if the router is in bridged mode (acting only as a modem), then the computer itself is able to take it down a lot easier, but again it'd be the computer at fault I think I can be fairly certain that my hardware is fine. However, I was thinking about what you said about large packets choking the router... is there a required/recommended MTU setting? - although I'm not sure if my router will allow me to set that, or if it will cause other problems. I also noticed that some of my buddies seem to be logging on/off rather frequently. Also, one of my guildies has also said that it took him like 20 attempts to connect yesterday! So I think this is not a problem specific to me, but rather the client version. BTW, did I mention that I had no such trouble with version 1.1.2 - or whatever the previous version was?
  14. What if I get fed up...of how my character looks.

Oh, great! How much would it cost for the other species/creatures/whatever? I really don't like the way those orcs look down on me!
  15. I made a new account :)

Just checking as I noticed that M and K are quite close on the keyboard. Are you sure 'PM' was not a typo?
  16. Someone enlighten me please...

Went to MM mines to harvest last night, and someone was summoning fluffies . needless to say most people disappeared. Not a summoner myself, but I have just passed gob-ignore stage, and would like to be able harvest in peace without being killed! I get enough aggro from Mother Nature as it is! She hit me with 19, then 15, inside two minutes!
  17. Someone enlighten me please...

MrMind and I have spoken at length on this matter and he has convinced me that he did not summon more than three. I thought I could count past three, but MrMind has shown me that he is a gentleman, and I am prepared to accept his word over my opinion or math skills! May I re-iterate that this was not about getting anyone into trouble, which is why I avoided posting in Outlaws or leaving any clues as to the identity of the summoner. In any case, I have apologised personally to MrMind and assured him I would do the same here. So, MrMind, please accept this as a formal apology for any problems I may have caused you. As I explained to you, that was not the point of this thread. EaglePrince.
  18. Someone enlighten me please...

I agree with you, but only partly... I have no problem with summoning fluffies in Grubani or KF, cos they live there! I would not even notice if you summoned wolves at a wolf spawn. However I think that is rather different from summoning fluffies in MM caves! Soldus is an Admin, and he said next time call a mod. What does that tell you? I may be wrong, of course, but then I have no problem being wrong. It only shows one more way not to do things.
  19. Someone enlighten me please...

...except one thing - could that be construed as summoning in a populated area? sure, and summoning a fluff in KF while there are 20 people inside is summoning in a populated area too? Some people really complain about everything. If you misclick a summoned bunny whose fault ist that? I guess yours... Can't see a problem here. If you wanna harvest in peace, harvest in IP. This is a challenging game, there are no really safe areas. You'd better accept that, else you will have to look for some other game that fits you better. with regards, kl4Uz Amen Interesting viewpoints... So, I complain too much, do I? I suppose it's therefore ok to complain about me complaining! May I point out that it would not be strange to find fluffies in KF? And oh, did I mention that there were perhaps 10 of them, maybe more, and it was fairly close to cave entrance? Is is possible that someone could mis-click? Is it so hard to admit that certain things are not quite right, even if there is no law against them?
  20. Someone enlighten me please...

In that case it didn't work... cos when my guildie #gm'd me to get his DB, a swarm of Ants were already helping themselves! BTW, forgot to ask him if it was a fluffy that got him or one of the other monsters!
  21. Someone enlighten me please...

...except one thing - could that be construed as summoning in a populated area? ... which is one of the issues I have with this, but I didn't want to be hit wih a newbie-stick! Also, if I thought fluffies were natives of MM caves, I would not have pretended to be a hero by going there! I just don't think it's right...
  22. Help with connection problems.

Hi again, I tried the test server last night, and was pleased to find my char was not too out-of date. I managed to connect after 2 attempts, but I think that was pure chance. It was strange having VOTD all to myself. I'm fairly certain that it's not firewall/port related, otherwise I would not be able to connect at all. I went as far as cleaning out the entire EL folder, as well as ~/.elc, and started over, with exactly the same problems. BTW, I never had these issues with version 1.1.2 - or whatever the previous version was. My graphics card is an ATI Sapphire 9550 with 256MB Ram. I know about the issues with ATI drivers, but I fixed that with the latest driver. BTW, my router is a failrly old (2yrs) Billion ADSL wired router with built-in firewall, although my particular model has been discontinued. Rest of network is wireless. Thanks for the input
  23. Help with connection problems.

Hi Piper, By that I mean EL client-to internet/server My internet access is otherwise just fine, as long as EL is not running.... I can read forums, send/receive mail, everything really, except connect first-time to EL. Even if the router was already on-line, the EL client knoocks it out as soon as I start it. So, as you can imagine, the rest of the family gets upset with me when I try to play EL while theye are also on-line. However, thanks for the port 2001 tip. I will try that when I get home. BTW, do I need to create a char on the test server, or will it know me? EaglePrince.

Hey, I remember this guy! He encouraged me to fight a gob without weaps since I was beating them so easily. He seems to like VOTD gold mine, by the way. Within seconds of being killed by the next gob, my DB dissappears and Davius has logged off! I will leave you to fill in the blanks!
  25. To the_antiroot

LW, I was quite cross with you for the way you attacked me in an earlier thread, but I have heard people speak highly of you, and I guess this thread shows why. Being the newbie, as you pointed out, I am not familiar with the issues between you and anti, but it seems that you both want your friendship restored, and I wish you all the best. I lift my hat to the honesty and maturity you both have shown. EaglePrince.
